CohhCarnage (twitch-streamer) notes that Mafia III PC is locked to 30 fps

Have people become completely unable to accept framerates lower than 60 now?
How this is a big issue is just mystifying to me.
I'm so incredibly happy it doesn't matter to me. If the game was made for/developed with 30 fps in mind, then that is the way I'll play it and it's absolutely fine.

I don't know how much you're being serious and how much you're fishing for a reaction, but let me tell you something: the problem is not like people are unable to accept framerates lower than 30 FPS. The single most important feature of PC gaming is having options. 30 FPS are fine when they are an option, just like any graphical feature is cool as long as it can be turned off or on to suit your needs and taste. People would also complain if a game forced 60 FPS by arbitrarily turning off settings to achieve that framerate.

If you don't care, good for you. Just don't shut down other people's preferences because you find them "mystifying".

I couldnt see any options where it says 30 fps in his stream. Iam guessing his streaming options are locked to 30fps, which makes a lot more sense

Cohh streams at 60FPS, but game is locked to 30FPS. You can see upper half of FPS counter peeking over ads that roll in upper right corner.

It's hard to see, because it's very small, but the in-game FPS counter is partially blocked by the logo on the upper right. It clearly says 30 FPS, though.

a quick look at the menu. he didn't go through any of the options.

There's no such thing as a game "being made for 30fps." Wtf am I reading? PC users should have option to play at higher frame rates. Period.

I have been hyped for Mafia III for months and it feels like they just took a warm dump on my chest if I'm honest. I just feel bad for everyone who buys this on PC without knowing. Being hard locked to 30fps basically means it's a straight up console port with very little effort put into the PC version. I was so close to pulling the trigger on it about 10 minutes before I read the news on here. I'm sitting here now kinda stunned that they'd do this and I'm just gutted in general.

I am 100% sure it isn't locked to 30 fps.

Have you got it on PC then?

I guess 21:9 support is unlikely if they can't even deliver unlocked frame rates? :( I am locked in with my non-steam preorder unfortunately ...

Again. Wait for confirmation before rushing to judgement? I don't know much about this streamer but I went and watched some of the video and he didn't seem to go into any of the graphics options.

Cohh tends to put in stuff like graphics options, audio levels etc. day before he starts game X, reason why you next to never see him playing with that stuff. If performance issues surface as game progresses then he dives in and adjusts. He values performance over eye candy.

I like Cohh. He has fun sounds on Twitch.

Is 30fps really a deal breaker for a Mafia game? Singleplayer?

Locking the framerate isn't a deal breaker for me personally, but it's a really stupid thing to do in this day and age on a platform that is customization. If this was a port of an old console game that had it's animations tied to it's 30fps framerate, then it might be kinda passable. But not a game made with PC in mind this generation.

EDIT: So the streamer didn't go through settings at all? That makes sense.

Is this is true than im fucked, i preordered the deluxe edition and can't/won't play games on PC lower than 30 frames, is not why i build a gaming PC for

In that case, I'll be running in a circle while on fire. Hmm I wonder if the day 1 patch is live on steam or not.

Ehh, yeah I'll wait on that one. Only because some twitch streamer says so doesn't make it right. Mafia games were never locked to 30. Doubt they start now.

Well at least it hasn't been double-checked so it shouldn't have its own thread, it leads to unverified information or misinformation if it isn't true indeed.

I really hope it has some basic 21:9 support and HUD customisation (as well as good optimization, playing with a 1070 on 3440x1440)

As someone who has a 165hz monitor, it's getting hard to stomach anything under 80 or so FPS for me personally. 30 FPS is pretty much a no-go, unless I play with a controller on my TV.

I am optimistic. Mafia 2 is 6 years old and had 21:9 support... but then again Mafia 3 is a different dev.

That it's still time to cancel?

I pre-ordered mine outside of Steam and I'm already pre-loaded.

I'll be playing it on a TV with a controller so it won't be too bad for me, but I'm still going to notice it enough to annoy me if this turns out to be true.

It's not a deal breaker for me i don't really care if it runs 30,60,90,100,120 etc i just wanna play and enjoy the game.

But some people won't even touch a game unless it runs at least 60fps.

*EDIT- I should make it clear before someone yells at me. Although i personally don't care if i am playing a game at 30fps or 60fps i think locks on a PC game is stupid and i don't understand the purpose in games like Mafia.

I find a locked 30fps with a controller to be pretty playable. I do it in games where I want to push more eye candy. But man, that shit should never be the fucking hard-limit lol.

30fps is really painful on a 144hz monitor. Much more so than on a 60hz it feels like. Is this just how i'm used to things now, or will it actually feel smoother if my monitor is closer to the FPS cap?

I didn't buy a GTX 1080 to play in 30 FPS.

With a controller, it is semi-bearable.

But what year is this?! I would like to know that the PC version got prioritized and optimized properly, it's already been bought and preloaded. There shouldn't be a hard cap..

I put 60ish hours into Mafia 2 - most of the joy in the shootouts in that game were from the fact that it felt heavy, responsive and wonderful with Kb/m at 60fps.

I also completed it fully on the 360. The tearing and 30fps don't make it feel more cinematic, just inferior.

60FPS is a core gameplay feature thats missing and it'll obviously make the game worse or unplayable for many due to it.

Good thing I didn't go with those pre-order offers.

Hell, even a 60 FPS lock is silly for a game like this. Should be able to use what your monitor supports.

I'll survive it, though I'm really surprised if this doesn't turn out to be something fixed in the Day 1 patch. 60fps is always better. But even worse is that screen tearing as seen in his stream, it's absolutely terrible

I edited so people who refuse to play anything at 30 wouldn't get mad.

Saying 30fps is unplayable i will always call out as an absurd statement because there are millions of people who play games at 30fps and they are fine and 100% playable. You prefer 60fps and that's fine there are people who refuse to listen to music outside of vinyl, it doesn't mean mp3's are listenable. I just don't care but i will agree that locking a game that has no reason to be locked is dumb

It's not locked at 30fps...

How do you know? If you're playing it please confirm it, if you're not then please stop posting your opinion as fact.

It speaks volumes to the quality of the port, if it is indeed locked at 30fps it's a copy/paste console port and it's not worth my money, simple as that really.

I'm going to preface this by saying this is only my opinion, but there's no way in hell this is going to be locked to 30FPS. It has to be something with his set up.

The fact that when he spoke to a dev about it, they were surprised, tells you that there should be proper high-fps support.
