CohhCarnage (twitch-streamer) notes that Mafia III PC is locked to 30 fps

I edited so people who refuse to play anything at 30 wouldn't get mad.

Saying 30fps is unplayable i will always call out as an absurd statement because there are millions of people who play games at 30fps and they are fine and 100% playable. You prefer 60fps and that's fine i just don't care but i will agree that locking a game that has no reason to be locked is dumb

Would you say that someone who gets motion sick in VR can't find VR games unplayable because of that?

I have a rough time playing at 30 FPS because I get very painful headaches after a while. I don't care that "millions of people" can play the game just fine: *I* can't and that's all that matters to me to judge *my* experience with the game. So, for me, the vast majority of 30 FPS games are literally unplayable: I can't play them, or else I get a headache for hours.

I'm not yelling or angry at all. I'm simply stating that 60fps over 30fps is factually better in every aspect and while millions are used to 30fps other millions are not. Nothing absurd about it, especially when it influences smoothness and input.

Did i ever mention VR? That's and entirely different conversation.

Why would the developers not just tell him straight up how to run 60fps on the spot?
They probably assumed that someone who streams PC gaming for a living would figure it out.

You gotta love the ignorance of some being totally oblivious to different audiences and market conditions. Even 60 FPS locks are supremely annoying in PC shooting games. Wolfenstein TNO feels like shit if you're used to playing competitive FPS at 144+hz. There's going to be extremely high backlash and negativity if there's a 30 lock on this game. This is the type of thing that does affect sales on the platform. It's not absurd at all, it's a different market. It's not a shocker that many would feel it's unplayable since the majority on PC uses mice where 30 FPS feels like a disaster.

That being said, I strongly doubt it's actually gonna be locked to 30.

To be honest, a few outlets did have the PC version (preview version) and none of them mentioned a 30fps lock.

Hope it's not the case.

The trailers are in 60fps as well. I know it wouldn't be the first time a trailer was in 60 and the game in 30, but still seems kinda bizarre to me that they'd do that and the dev sounding surprised.

Huh, it's a valid comparison to make a point. Just because millions of people find something playable doesn't mean it can't be unplayable to someone.

Millions of people enjoy 3D with no problems. It gives me headaches, so it's "unwatchable" to me.

Many years ago people were fine playing a bunch of games in 15-20 fps. I probably was too. I was also fine with watching movies in bad encoded DivX at 320p. I was fine with warping textures on PS1, blocky meshes in old 3D games.

But I'm not fine with that now. I haven't been physically changes since then, but my expectations have grown. And my time is limited, got about 1-2 hours at best to play games every night. I wont spend that time watching a DivX at 320p, and I wont spend it playing a game locked at 30.

hopefully its not true

makes 0 sense to do that on pc...

edit : Oh it is true.

Well , im not buying it.
Hopefully a patch fixes this or something because there is no reason for that on pc

I can deal with 30fps games on PC, what really bothers me is that almost every single game that is capped at 30fps on PC doesn't even bother to cap it properly. The frame pacing is usually all over the place, and you still need to use external tools to get it to run smoother.

It's bullshit that you get the "30fps is fine" talk both from devs and people defending this kind of stuff when they don't even bother to lock it right in the first place.
