I'm still confused as to if she did something illegal or not.

In this specific case? Not according to the quoted expert.

Literally the paragraph after bang bang posted said:
Meredith McGehee, chief of policy, programs, and strategy at the nonpartisan advocacy group Issue One and an expert on ethics and campaign finance, said the email exchange would probably raise no legal concerns because federal law permits members of the White House staff to engage in some political activity.

In the case of this entire email saga? Not according to the Director of the FBI.

I hear she sent forwarded an e-mail to both a republican and a democrat at the same time.

That sounds like a conflict of interest.

Also, there are foreign-sounding names in her outbox. Just whose side is she on anyway?

Now, I hear there are ads for erectile dysfunction medication in her spam folder. Do you know who didn't have a problem with that? Bill Clinton, that's who. Those aren't the kind of values I want in the White House.

And what are all these attachments? They're way over the size limit. Most Americans can only upload files that are maybe 25 megabytes. These files are way bigger than that. What a waste. Just like her wasteful spending.

Also, I'll bet there are drafts of e-mails that weren't even sent. What if she had to warn some American soldier who had a terrorist behind him? Maybe she just didn't feel like pressing the send button. Is that someone you want in office?

Also, what's with all these forwards? Do you know what that means? It means other people can see the e-mails. So maybe one day she forwards our battle plans to the enemy. Of course, they could just look on her website.

I don't use e-mails. I don't even use computers. Anyone who says I do is lying. There's no proof of that. When you vote for Donald Trump, you get no e-mails. I deleted them all. I mean I never e-mailed anyone, but if I had, I would have deleted them. But not the way Hillary did. She's a traitor.

I wonder if there's a self aware mail saying 'guys, maybe we shouldn't use email to try to cover up the email scandal'

then obama answers 'come on bro, this time we secured the server'

That's exactly what certain people want. Blur the lines, put corruption in people's heads when they think of Clinton. Regardless of what really happened.

It's not like we have more important issues in our country ... no, we gotta solve that email mystery!!

Do you think anyone actually cares about this email thing aside from people using it as ammo against the Dems/Hillary?

No. Republicans say the whole reason the private server was a terrible thing was because it put US secrets in danger of being made public through hacking, and then now they scream up and down that Hillary should release every single e-mail sent to and from her server. Their outrages contradict each other. They are just using the whole thing to damage Clinton.

Illegal? no

Morally bankrupt? yes

I don't care how much she trots out the "ah shucks" garbage to play this down, IMO it was a blatant attempt to dodge FOIA requests, which is the same reason why Powell did the same thing btw.

EDIT: Before it happens, yes I am voting for Clinton. I'm just not a fucking stan.

Didn't Obama say he first found out about the server through the news? Does this change that?

Nope. See the first sentence of the article...

WASHINGTON—Newly disclosed emails show top Obama administration officials were in close contact with Hillary Clinton’s nascent presidential campaign in early 2015 about the potential fallout from revelations that the former secretary of state used a private email server.

If we can have a thread every time Trump changes his mind on something and no one questions that, I don't see why new news on Hilary doesn't deserve a thread.

Apples to oranges. Trump says something crazy is actual news. Republicans grasping at straws, as usual, is not.

It's morally bankrupt for someone to contact thier boss and party after a potential issue arises? Because that's essentially what this is.

It's fine to have the thread but these threads are always posted with the poster being all "THIS IS HUUUUGE" or some variation of lock her up rhetoric. If it's big, it's big. But trying to pretend its big to stump for trump is sad.

I'm not talking about this thread. I'm talking about the scandal in general, which is what I assumed said poster I was responding to was talking about.

So uh, why is this not important?

I'm serious, you can go through my post history if you want, I'm not a Trump supporter. I just want to know why people don't seem to think this is important at all. In my completely uninformed opinion, it sounds important.

Make the case, how is it important?

"Sounds important" has been the bane of intelligent thought this season.

I mean maybe, but I think it's safer to assume someone is referring to a thread they are posting in? But I might be wrong, I dunno, he may have been asking in general

Pretty important.

News deserves a thread. If it ain't important it will sink in the pages.

You're keeping it at the top of the first page in the OT (and I am as well, by responding to you).

I don't see anything exactly scandalous in the OP but the scandals against Clinton aren't really heavy on the details usually, just keeping her name associated with scandals.
The OP specifically believed this was "pretty important", I was curious if he had reasons why he believed so.

I wasn't disagreeing with the actual thread being posted (it's technically news), just the comments made by the OP. This doesn't seem particularly important, but he believes it is. Why is that so?

The question is kind of vague. At the end of the day though I'm no federal law specialist so I can't effectively answer whether or not she broke the law contacting the WH over this, but I doubt it. If she did this would be getting a lot more play.

1. All this information was obtained by Republicans via FOIA, i.e. Anyone has access to it. It wasn't hidden.

2. It states the White House was in contact with Clinton regarding this issue after it was discovered. That's literally it.

Ah, gotcha.

Correct. I was asking in the general sense.

It's not. Basically all that happened is the story broke and she contacted the leader of the Democratic Party to work on dealing with the fallout. The president is always the party leader. Nothing indicates he attempted a cover up just that he worked on minimizing the damage of a potentially damaging story.

I love OP's that usually have something like "No matter what party we can't have stuff like this!"

And then post something that's obviously nothing, but is meant to be some type of huge scandal about Obama or Clinton.

Also, if her email server was an attempt to dodge FOIA, she did a really bad job dodging FOIA

That's why I said my opinion was misinformed. It sounded important. Why? Cause it does. I don't know anything more on the subject to know better. So I asked.

Thanks, the FOIA stuff clears it up.
