can someone give a short version of what happened? I have no time to read that bible sized blog post...

Biggest issue that stood out to me is EE turning down a $500k annual deal from Panda to stream for x hours per month unless his teammates were in on it. Puppey couldn't fulfill his end of the bargain due to laziness (12 hrs over 3 months opposed to the agreed upon 30 hours per month) effectively killing a $1million+ deal for the team.

Speaks volumes of EE and Puppey's character.

I feel like if you're owed 182k USD when it's late it's not enough to just pay you the full amount. I bet you Kemal is investing and making money off of the tournament winnings on the side while waiting for the players to ask about their paychecks.

Holy shit... what happened that drove him so mad?

Short version is:
1. Puppey's not a good person.
2. Players that were on Secret are missing a bunch of money.

Thanks boys. Seems to me this call all be resumed to poor ego and money management mixed with a lot of anger and passive-aggressive behaviors. I am not that surprised things turned out like this honestly.

From the blog post, I think it was cause Kuro and Zai were playing some custom game and having fun/laughing, and Puppey was tryharding in a pup alone. Puppey tried to say he set his headset down angrily, and the monitor was already defective.

Clearly that wasn't true. He also threatened to kick EE if he leaked the video.

Good on EE.

I wish, for once, some juicy drama would center around someone whose sentences didn't make me want to just grab them and say "GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN D+"

But that's the English major speaking.

Sponsor/salary aside, Valve could be doing so much more to help the players. Prize money should be held by Valve in advance to prevent payout delays, and organizations should be only allowed to create a tournament if they have the funds.

I can't even imagine how the non-players (coachs, managers) survived all this time, if Secret has not been paying them.

If the actual players protested tournaments that didn't pay them directly you'd probably have a change in how its handled.

Honestly surprised its seemingly not done more but I can see how its easier to pay 1 entity than 5 then multiplying by the number of teams present.

Having said that, don't see why 3rd party tournaments are Valve's concern and Valve itself probably doesn't give too much of a shit as long as hat money keeps coming in.

Not that this serves as an excuse to Secret's management but that's how every businessman handles non-periodic payments, like bonus, to their employees, delay as much as possible in order to collect interest from some quick investments with that money. It's pretty much an accepted practice in the business world. However you should have the common sense to not hold that money forever and pay others what they are due.

is puppey going to prison

Hes probably running for president of Estonia. He got all the skills of a successful politician.

via Misery: "I should have included the fact that we didnt have contracts."

They really are a naive bunch of guys. I feel for them.

Valve obviously (should) care. Cosmetics are mostly tied to the competitive scene, the game itself revolves around the competitive scene, all the money involved stems from it.

With TI paying out to players within days after tournament's end, it's pretty clear Valve's got a good handling prize money. And because of TI and the majors they're the only organizer that has the most complete financial information on all the players to facilitate the transfer process.

Players do not talk openly about their organization(and even an outspoken player like EE only does it after the fact) because the whole point of having one is to have a supporting system that lets them focus entirely on Dota. To question it otherwise would put a strain on the relationship that may bleeding into their performance, not to mention an unneeded distraction. So the players play and the shady organizations bleed them dry while doing just enough to keep up appearances.

If that's the way world works then so be it, but if you're going to act like a business then honor the terms of your contacts (written/verbal or otherwise) like a proper business.

That story is kinda heartbreaking. He's not super emotional in his prose, but you can tell that EE really respected Puppey and the idea he was sold of the team and even just stuff like how to treat the captain of your team, and at every turn it just went poorly. I hope he figures stuff out with his new team.

The no contracts part sounds completely insane to me with the amount of money up for grabs in these events. Honestly, I think he should put something to writing with his new team. A contract is not a sign of mistrust.

If they didn't sign a contract then legally Secret owes them nothing. Verbal contracts are worthless.
Of course, for the sake of not being complete assholes, Secret should pay the players, but based on what Misery admitted I'm doubtful that'll ever happen.

I just don;t think Valve actually cares that much to be honest. And it's probably due to how their own internal structure is setup. Unless its matchfixing, I don't think they'll do anything.

I'll eat crow if anything.

And cosmetics are tied to TI/Majors thru the compendiums. I have to play the lottery if I want cool looking set. If anything Valve has made it so 3rd party tournaments mean even less throughout the years.

Now that all you bandwagon jumpers realize Secret and Puppey are trash I'm flipping the other way. I think Puppey is a nice guy and a great Dota player and I hope Secret wins TI7. Fuck y'all.

SHOULD I MAX UNSTABLE CONCOCTION SO I CAN STUN HEROES LIKE ENVY'S REVELATIONS STUNNED THE DOTA SCENE? SHOULD I MAX GREEVIL'S GREED AND STEAL FARM FROM MY TEAM LIKE YOU STOLE PRIZE MONEY FROM YOUR TEAM? OR SHOULD I MAX CHEMICAL RAGE SO I CAN SMASH MONITORS LIKE YOU DO?

In Germany verbal contracts are binding, but as the poster below said: just harder to prove.

In other news there's a dude on Ecko44's channel who went up from 3.2k to 4.7k mmr in 4 months whatthefuckthemgains

HEY PUPPEY, I'M TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY LEGION COMMANDER. SHOULD I MAX OVERWHELMING ODDS SO I CAN FORCE OTHERS TO LISTEN ONLY TO ME LIKE YOU DO WHEN YOU TALK? SHOULD I MAX PRESS THE ATTACK FOR INCREASED ATTACK SPEED SO I CAN SMASH MONITORS WITH HEADPHONES LIKE YOU DID? SHOULD I MAX MOMENT OF COURAGE TO STEAL THE LIFE FROM OTHERS LIKE HOW YOU FLAMED EX-TEAMMATES AND PUT THEM DOWN TO FEED YOUR EGO? OR SHOULD I MAX DUEL SO I CAN SEE WHO'S RIGHT AND WHO'S WRONG BY FIGHTING THEM?
