Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

I like Bulbasaur's "Fushigidane" which literally translates to "It's wonderful right?"

As in, Bulbasaur's original name is "Sh*t's weird yo lol"

It's also a pun on tane = seed, as in the one on this Pokémon's back. So it's like "weird/mysterious seed" and "how weird!".

You are missing Espurr and Meowstic. And I don't think Litleo or Pyroar really count, yes they are technically cats, but in the case of Purrloin to Liepard it started out as a cat and then became a leopard, whereas Litleo and Pyroar are obviously lions the whole time.

Espurr and Meowstic are the Gen VI cats
I had a feeling I missed something and it had to be Gen VI as well :(

In unrelated news...aren't all Pokemon just Garfield? http://garfemon.tumblr.com/

And Brionne is even more ridiculous

Or it could be Brine + Lion, with lion spelled "fancy" because the name Brion just looks weird as a Pokemon name. It's not like Pokemon names haven't spelled the animal part of their name wrong or fancy before...

A bit late, but I'm pretty sure it's Brine + Lionne. Lionne is the female word for lion in French.

Yeah I was referring to housecats, I think Gen 2 is the only break in that trend.

I would like to see a future gen imitate gen 2 and abandon staples. XY not having a legendary trio other than the cover monsters was a nice change of pace, actually.

I hated this. Was the only disappointing thing in gen 6 to me. Other than that i love everything about it.

That's because XY was intent on recycling Kanto nostalgia and made the birds their trio.

The Chinese Riddler strikes.

Siren? They lure people with their voice. Though Popplio3 has a siren/mermaid thing going on. And I'm not sure how you go from salamander to siren. And more starter teasing. I hope their secret is something good, and not split evolutions.

Also I've been fiddling with XY recently and completed the Pokedex minus four mythicals. My last Pokemon was Slowking. I had two Slowkings basically stolen from me in random trades before someone realized what I wanted. YOU BETTER BELIEVE SHE GOT AN O POWER.

A Fire/Poison gorgon Pokemon would be amazing.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, but IGN teased in the latest NVC that they'll have Pokémon preview coverage going up this week.

I also remember seeing someone retweet a person from Polygon saying that they were going to play Sun/Moon. Masuda and Ohmori were in London and San Francisco a few days ago as well. Previews are probably coming soon.

Nintendo Voice Chat, their Nintendo podcast.

EDIT: In case my wording was unclear, they teased the preview in this past week's NVC episode. I assume the preview would just go up on their site normally, i.e. the preview itself won't be in a podcast. I've edited my original post to be clearer.

The issue there is that not having a legendary trio pretty much meant having nothing else in their place either. Each game has one bird from Kanto, which needs to be found multiple times, which is decent enough, but then there was a Zygarde and Mewtwo lying around without any events tied to them... and that's it.

This is how felt about it. I love going on hunts for new legendary Pokemon in postgames, so XY replacing most of that with borrowing Kanto's legends was really boring foe me.

Preloading going to be announced soon? The servers did okay for X/Y downloads but I think this is going to be much bigger.

Oh, I'm not saying I loved what XY did or did not do to replace a theoretical trio. I just appreciated the restraint after BW's excess of legendaries.

How about a legendary duo with a fresh dynamic between them?

If the Ultra Beasts and island guardians are intended to stand in as the new legendaries it already looks like they're shaking things up quite a bit

I mean, Island Guardians could still very well be Legendaries as far as we know.

Yeah, I just mean like how they're handled in the story and stuff. They already look like they're getting more of a role than the lesser legendaries in previous titles if that Tapu Koko vs UB02 cutscene is any indication

So safe to make at the very least a logical assumption they'll be
Fairy/electric
Fairy/grass
Fairy/water
Fairy/fire?

More like they'll be based off the island's colour like Oricorio, so:

Electric/Fairy
Fire/Fairy
Psychic/Fairy
Ghost/Fairy

But who knows, they could throw a curveball, though I expect these types since they're the island guardians.

Don't expect too much, the first 90 minutes were playable.

one Alola form that hasn't been officially announced though

You can't just post something like that dude without giving a hint. :P

Gonna guess it's Geodude since we haven't seen any of the members yet and it seems like a good choice.

Hmm I forgot about the birds I was thinking more along the lines of the types of the island challenge leaders but that makes sense too

Is there anything suggesting they aren't? I just assumed they were.
Only the VGC rules banning legends and not listing Tapu, but it's not the type of legend that normally get banned anyway (usually that's just Box Legends and Events)

You know there are like at least 12 of those guys, right?

Apparently I haven't been keeping up enough lmao. Well shit maybe my logical guess wasn't so logical. In my defense there's alot of games coming out lol

Alola tho

There should be plenty of good info we can get from the first 90 mins. For example, I'd like to hear about the performance of the game, how story heavy it seems from that first section, maybe some clarification on how many trial captains we'll encounter, music, etc.

I bet we can buy and preload sometime around the demo. Hard to believe in about a week we will have our grubby mitts on (part) of this game.

One of the most fun aspects will be the fan community scrambling to figure out who is a major player in the competitive scene after the game releases. Even though there were only 69 new Pokemon, with the mega evolutions and fairy typing, many Pokemon really flipped competitive battling on its head. TOP FIVE BIGGEST GAMECHANGERS

Greninja
Aegislash
Talonflame
Mega Kangaskhan
Mega Scizor (though honestly I saw Mega Gardevoir and Mawile more often)
