Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

"Relive the original adventure with only the ORIGINAL 150 Pokemon! It´s actually 151 but hey, that shitty rap from your childhood told you there were only 150, so fuck Mew! Have so

Day one.

Remember how I bought Heart Silver, checked the Pokedex of the previous owner, saw that other pokemon beside the original 251 were in that game and never started it again.

Speaking about genwunners, I truly fear for the day when Gen 1 pandering gets to insane levels and we get something like this:

"Relive the original adventure with only the ORIGINAL 150 Pokemon! It´s actually 151 but hey, that shitty rap from your childhood told you there were only 150, so fuck Mew! Have some nostalgia!"

"Expirience a truly classic pokemon expirience, with a limited edition preorder bonus of the Link Cable!!, fully compatible with your Nintendo NX system! *Link Cable will be required for any multiplayer interaction"

I can't imagine that happening. The only time a Pokemon basically got wiped from existane was spikey eared Pichu, which was a dumb thing in HGSS that no one cared about. Gamefreak is so obessed with continuity that we still can't use a leaf stone to evolve Eevee into Leafeon, and that we still use a Gresious Orb to change Giratina's forme.

I wouldn't worry about Gamefreak getting rid of Pokemon anytime soon.

Absolutely.

I always thought that the idea of removing existing Pokemon is absurd, and frankly, downright nasty.
If you'd remove any Pokemon you'd be removing someones all time favourite.
With the amount of people that play the games it's pretty much guaranteed.

Heck, the only time an item was removed is when they didn't carry over the e-Reader berries between Generations III and IV. Or rather, they merged them all into Enigma Berry, which was previously an unobtainable placeholder item.

Cosplay Pikachu will most definitely be left behind in ORAS unless GF decide to shoehorn in a costumes vendor in every subsequent game and update Pokebank.

Only in the post-game.

The encounter tables for heart gold and soul silver are nearly identical to the original games.
You have to deliberately tune into special radio stations to encounter anything from later gens IIRC.

Does this apply, when someone transfers newer pokemon in the game? The previous owner has tons of them in the game, maybe they appear then, too?

Didnt knew this tbh, seems like I can finally start my replay.

A restart is a complete wipe. You get the original Johnto dex until post-game IIRC. Only way to get newer pokemon before that is to trade them in I believe.

Jeeze, the hyperbole in here is incredible. It's your favorite franchise ever and you're going to bail because they don't have a ton of new mons for a single generation? Come on, man...

If anything, I'd prefer they focus on other aspects. There are so many Pokemon now that variety is less of an issue than it has ever been.

Either way, I think some of you guys are overreacting.

No. I'm a collector, i don't give two shits about competitive or story. I need new Pokemon to collect. I already have two alive Pokedex, i don't care about the old Pokemon.

If you have 60-70 new pokemon that translates to maybe 30-40 new pokemon throughout most of the game (-6 starters, -post/late game mons, -legendaries, -version exclusives, etc) that's just not enough for me.

Well, you can get some new Pokemon if they are evolutions added later for Pokemon originally there. But if someone's gonna whine about having the ability to evolve their Piloswine then I simply don't care about their problem.

yeah that poster is gonna have a meltdown when he or she starts evolving some Pokémon cuz it sounds like the sight of anything post Gen II is seen as unviewable

Sorry that my need from that game differs from yours.

I'm literally telling you not to play it because you judged all Pokémon after the 251st to be trash, and they will appear in the game if you evolve certain Pokémon. You will probably see scary new abomination Pokémon if you play HGSS. So I'm actually doing you a favor and telling you to avoid it if that's how you feel.

Yes, thats exactly why I also are insanely hyped for Sun & Moon, I just discovered my love for self torture. Cant wait for the agony when even the holy 151s show up and are in new and different forms!

Or I just expect from a Remake, that they stick to the Pokemon from that game.

ffs.

Unfortunately, the remakes are all made to match the generation that they're released in.
FR/LG used the R/S/E engine, and had access to all pokemon up to that point (they weren't all available in those two games of course, but could be traded over).
Same with HG/SS, they're made in D/Pl/Pt engine, with access to all pokemon up that point. Making them proper remakes rather than simply remasters.

As above posters have mentioned, this among other things, means that Piloswine will be able to evolve in Mamoswine or if you choose to breed a Sudowoodo, you'll get a Bonsly. You won't encounter any pokemon that weren't in the original G/S/C until you've beaten the Elite 4, unless you go out of your way to do so.

I'm still impressed by how different the reaction to gens 5 and 6 were during the beginning and how they are now.

I wonder how gen 7 will be after it's all said and done.

Pokémon cycle.

This generation sucks
The last one was terrible
Two generations ago was the pinnacle.

It's how it always goes

Yes, everybody is saying the same retarded speech every year or so, hopefully our prophet is here to save us.

"the reaction" is something you make up in your head based on a few posts you read or remember you read a few months/years ago but it doesn't exist. and it surely doesn't exist as "THE reaction", or "THE consensus".

Whoa calm down. I wasn't saying it was what everyone said, it's just the general consensus that I have seen each generation after spending 17 years in the community

Every generation is the worst.

Every generation is the best.

Pokemon is a pretty unique series in that there is no definitive "best" or even "worst" game when it comes to fan consensus. With Zelda, obviously the vast majority have OoT or LttP at the top. With Mario, 64, World, or Galaxy would dominate. Super Mario Bros. 1 is no ones favorite Mario game. But every Pokemon gen does have many people declaring it to be the best. Maybe it has something to do with where you started.

Honestly I think every gen is worth playing and has a lot of strong points. Personally I find it a bit odd to see Pokemon fans declare any gen as outright terrible. Gen III, my least favorite, would still score an 8/10 for me.

looks like someone didn't spend their time with the fans

There is a "best" in that sense, probably moreso than the Mario series can claim. It'd be difficult to find a large-scale video game ranking viewer poll with Pokemon representation that doesn't have Red/Blue as the highest entry, and in the rare times that it's not, it's almost always only beaten by Gold/Silver so we can in the very least narrow it down to those two games as you did with Zelda.

The problem is that this angers detractors moreso than Zelda and Mario fans whose favorites aren't generally considered to be so by popular consensus, probably because the majority in this case can be rather obnoxious and the favoritism clearly shows through in nostalgic callbacks that the series officially does which sometimes leaves the other fans feeling left out in trying to celebrate in their own way.

If someone isn't going to play Heart Gold for whatever reason I pity them.

Oh no. You can find a Poochyena after you finish 50 hours of the game and if you select a deliberate radio channel. The game must be awful.

I thought GAMEPROFF was posting a parody, but then they continued posting and I started losing hope for humanity...

That's a lot of pink-tinted glasses. Old pokemons are a chore compared to modern ones. At least, gold/silver have a good remake with a modern interface.

I don't doubt the poll would result in this, but I'm not sure people replying have really invested time in each gen. You'll have plently of people that only played the first two games when they were a child and have fond memory of it. Each time you do such a poll on GAF, B/W (for post-game) and HG/SS (for main game I think) are often chosen.

I also don't think you can easily rank them, because people play it for different reasons. The Dexnav for example make ORAS the best games for breeders by far...

I think Sinnoh is awful, but I'd still buy a remake.
UNLESS I couldn't get monsters from newer generations in my playthrough until postgame. I get what the gen1 remakes were doing, but screw that noise, I want to go nuts with my party options

HG/SS will forever be tainted because of the expendable TMs (and to a small degree, the slow ass battle system). That was one design decision that changed EVERYTHING from B/W on.

Apparently we got text rumors about what's in CoroCoro, with "The Riddler" (Chinese dude who seems to be in the know) reposting it...

Basically the Riddler translated it to Chinese and then folks on Bulbagarden translated it to English, basically unmasked Type: Null is Dark/Normal with Mold Break, Alolan Persian is Dark/Fairy, and there's an Alolan Ekans-line that's Fighting-type---we had a similar rumor about a Fighting-type Ekans last time around interestingly enough.

Pokemon games are so expansive, not in the sense that they're 100+ hour long campaigns or huge open worlds, but definitely in the sense that they've got this incredible amount of mechanics and aspects and just stuff to do in general that people may have different feelings on, and it is super easy to disagree with people on some points and agree on others. Because of that I think people describing generations or games in specific absolutist "worst" or "best" terms are being silly and reductive and I avoid engaging with them; every game will appeal to different people for different reasons, and some games will meet some expectations and not meet others. That said, let's all relax and get hyped for this next entry :)

There's news (maybe a new trailer?) scheduled for Friday, right? Then there's Coro Coro which will hopefully leak before Saturday, and Pokenchi on Sunday? And then the demo on Tuesday @_@ really can't wait. I'm really hoping the demo's performance is an indicator of the actual game's, and that it runs at least as well as gen VI did; I don't think I could take additional slowdown (though if trailers are to be believed it could even be better). At this point I'm not expecting any N3DS enhancements, I'm thinking that would've been mentioned before if it was a thing.

Ancient tradition predicates that all Pokémon threads eventually devolve into mindless gen wars.

Don't believe everything just because it's Japanese.

Besides, for one, for the life of me, I can't find that anywhere on 2ch and a google search just brings up Bulbagarden and 4chan. That's highly unlikely. 2ch gets crawled by Google too. Feel free to correct me if so.

We get fake text stuff from 2ch every month that people go crazy about and turn out untrue.

Seems you're right about not being on 2chan, seems I jumped the gun because the Riddler posted it. :?

So what is the lasting thought on gen 6 right now?

Personally I loved a lot of the designs of the new mons, but it seemed like they did not make them all useful. Guys like Slurpuff and such though were awesome.

Personally, I think that if I suppress my nostalgia for Generation 1, Generation Six has the best designs for the series;

Noibat line
Froakie line
Pancham line
Litleo
Vivillion (I loved the differing designs)
Skiddo line
Skrelp line
Inkay line
Clauncher line
Heliolisk
Tyrunt line
Amaura line
Sylveon
Goomy line
Xerneas
Zygarde
Hoopa

Ar all top tier Pokemon designs for me and I absolutely loved discovering and using all of them, really excited to see what else Generation 7 brings.
