My Nintendo Thread: Mii Nintendo, U Nintendo, Wii Nintendo

this service is already worse than club nintendo in its worst days.

what a joke.

i ended up with too many coins thinking there'd be more goodies but now they're rotting there and i can't even redeem them for a code to sell (almost all rewards are games i already have)

MyNintendo is shit, rushed to release before it was viable because Nintendo wanted to it use to push Miitomo. For all its faults, at least Club Nintendo rewarded consumers for everything they bought and offered more stuff.

Perhaps, at some point down the line, MyNintendo will be a somewhat legitimate consumer loyalty program-- but as of now, it's pathetic.

At least Zelda Picross is/was good. It did its job too and actually made me a fan of Picross games. Now I have a bunch of Picross on my 3DS.

Oops, I didn't notice that. My bad.

Hero of Legend's positive attitude made me realize 30% off a game in exchange for Platinum coins is indeed a swell deal, and in that regard I hope more promotions like that come...In bulk, and with more frequency, dangnabit.

Slow down with the revisionist history. Club Nintendo used to only reward you for Nintendo games. Third party games were only included after many many years. Then there's the part where you had to save up your stars/coins forever until you could get something. Oh and what greatness you got. I remember the regular whining how shit everything was and the one thing you'd want was gone immediately because everyone wanted it and either didn't have enough or came too late.

This service is in its baby shoes.

Yeah, Zelda picross was okay for a free picross game. I was hoping for another one, but I was just setting myself up for disappointment. I really should know better at this point.

I couldn't get into it; they changed up the controls from the rest of the Picross games for 3DS. It's like trying to switch between press and hold for Z-targeting settings in 3D Zeldas.

Me too. No-one likes Picross more than me, but the controls killed any interest for me.

I know what you guys mean. It's crazy that they wouldn't give an option to switch control method...

I could get used to it, though. I'm just burned out on picross.

Well...at least Nintendo has dropped the pretense of this being a service that gives you free games for building up points.

Nope, just coupons to by more stuff and advertising Miitomo.

I mean... it's not really that great. Any other company would just put it up as a sale for everyone, and 30% off is hardly much to write home about.

Well, more games that are integrated = more coins = more need for coins to be used with stuff.

I agree! And NX rewards being added will gove more opportunities for new kinds of rewards. I also think the achievement integration a la Miitomo is likely for NX and future mobile titles. So I am hopeful. Just a touch disappointed in the selection at this time. I think it would be a good show of goodwill for current customers to offer more of a selection.

Don't see why it would. 15/30% discounts have been Nintendo's thing since forever, and it's not like they'll be giving away NX games for platinum coins.

I think we just need to get used to this.

Regarding sales, I agree, but I'm hoping for a lot more free eShop and VC games. There's a precedent for that as well, from CN especially and also MyN to an extent, so I think it's a reasonable expectation.

I would be happy if I could just get a free 3ds theme of my choice for 300 platinum or 400 once a month, they could charge more, I don't care, at least I would be using the coins instead of just having them there

Deeper intergration (like with NX) has nothing to do with offering VC freebies.

If anything, I expect MyN coins to be used for in-game purchases like skins.

Not directly, that's true, but (perhaps naively) I believe that the more ways they offer points the more pressure there'll be on them to offer more or better rewards.

(Just saw your edit. I agree we could see implementations like that for sure. Hadn't thought of that really but since we're seeing it already with Miitomo it makes sense.)

Chase: Cold Case Investigations discount is now available in Europe. It costs 20 Gold Coins to get 20% off the game. The discount is available until 28.10.2016.

I think I'll bite, game seems very interesting and it it's from the team that made Hotel Dusk and Last Window, it cannot be all bad.

Sweet! I remember being worried that game wouldn't come over to Europe because when they announced it for the west, they were only talking about North America.

So 20 coins for a €1,20 discount? Yeah I'll pay that €6...

Also wow the UK gets screwed over. Not even the slightest adjustment...

Take care, TheMoon decided it's a great offer.

And for the UK price - they probably don't want to raise the price in future.

It'd be a great offer if they gave people who used it also a week early access. Which they don't, so it just seems needlessly expensive. Well that and I hope they'll offer VC games again...

Keep in mind that you get 10 gold coins back from buying the game, so tehcnically you're only paying 10 gold for the -1,20€.

I agree that early access for the game would've been great, though, and I'd love to use my gold coins for VC games.

Not really. Let's assume you have exactly 20 gold coins now.
Gold coins after the purchase with the discount: 10 (=20-20+10)
Gold coins after the purchase with no discount: 30 (20+10)
Difference: 20 gold coins

You're paying 20 gold coins for a discount of 1.20€. Not any less.

Mark my words. NX's Achievement system will reward you with MyN Coins.

Time will tell. I was hoping for something like this. It seems like the no-brainer thing to do, but Nintendo gonna Nintendo. An achievement system that rewards may not constitute as "fun" for them, so much as it might be a chore. Remember they focus on family friendly oriented elements in their games. If it's not potentially fun for children then it's not worth it. Hope for the best, steel your heart against the worse.

Looking at Miitomo, I can see this. But instead of the usual "achievement" system, it'll be for things they'd want to incentivize you to keep on playing (like playing a daily online match in Smash, entering a splatfest in Splatoon, or checking in on Animal Crossing).

I can't remember if rumour or legit, but wasn't it put out there that Miitomo would integrate with the NX somehow?

If your Mii avatar on the NX could use Miitomo customizations that would be pretty neat.

that's neither rumor nor legit, that's somebody wishing this would happen.

Don't remember if anything like that's been said, but Miyamoto talked about how Super Mario Run integrates the friend list from Miitomo that's tied to the Nintendo account. So if anything, I'd assume NX would carry over that same friend list from Miitomo and Super Mario Run.

I was looking at the list of games on the Wii U eShop to see what I can redeem my Birthday discount for. Is the list shown in the "Just For You" section the only games I can use my 30% on? I wanted to get Fast Racing Neo At 30% off or a Wii game.

I can get behind this, not so much for Smash but definitely other games, probably racing games.

Yes, that's the point. :) It's not a free-for-all.
