The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

As long as NX gets first party Nintendo games and Japanese games then I'm fine. I rarely care for western third party games. The Witcher 3 a highly acclaimed game was too bloated and janky for me.

And if we get a new Metroid game for the NX then it will be worth it just for that.

Except we practically know everything about it at this point from the rumors.

I fully expect not to be wowed at the reveal because we most likely will have heard about most of its features before.

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. Specs? Unclear. Form factor? Unclear. Games? Some. Honestly, what exactly do you think has leaked that tells us everything about the console? We've got a ton of scatter-shot rumors and that's about it.

Even if it's Federation Force? :(

This is quite interesting. If it's true that dev hardware is still actively cooled then it means one of three things:

  • Some or all third party devs don't have final hardware and are still working on TX1-based dev kits. (I'd consider this by far the most likely scenario)
  • The system itself is actively cooled in all scenarios. This isn't impossible (as others have noted there are many actively cooled laptops and tablets which are much thinner than the 3DS or Vita), however it would seem very unusual for Nintendo, given the added moving part is a potential point of failure, and the increased power consumption would mean a much larger battery would be required.
  • The system is only actively cooled when docked, clocking up to allow the system to output at an increased resolution. This eliminates the battery life issue, but we haven't heard anything which would indicate that there's a difference of this kind between "portable mode" and "docked mode", which makes it seem pretty unlikely.
Although I'd still put my money on devs not having final hardware (which wouldn't be that unusual 5 months from launch), it would be very interesting if Nintendo actually went the actively cooled route with NX. You'd be looking at clock speeds over 1GHz and comfortably over 1TF of FP16 performance, perhaps even 2TF or more.

I'd personally hope that if the final hardware is actively cooled it's only when docked. I don't really want a fan on a device I'll be using on the go.

It would point towards Nintendo going as powerful as possible given their design parameters which wasn't the case with Wii U.

I think it's most interesting that the NX software has stayed under wraps completely. Also we know a lot due to rumors but there's a lot of conflicting stuff out there, unless you're knowledgeable about who to trust then it's not hard to be confused. Joe Shmoe who's never posted on a message board could google "NX rumors," and be led to some BS SuperMetalDave64 videos. Though I suppose that's not to any doing of Nintendo themselves. Also we didn't know about the detatchable controller things at all until the Eurogamer rumor, and even then it seems like not everyone agrees on that (maybe?), and that (would) supposedly be a huge fucking part of the console.

Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played, but I don't look forward to or buy Nintendo consoles for things like that. Naturally I think all consoles should have strong third-party support, but it's not going to surprise me when it doesn't have certain multiplat titles. Like were people really shocked that Red Dead wasn't announced for NX?

Does anybody know what Schadenfreude evolves into at level 36? Because I'm pretty sure we need a new word for how I'm feeling about SMD and company right now.

By they way, they're going to be restreaming the reveal live when it happens. Wtching might be a good idea for some entertainment
and they'll likely delete it right after if they're wrong.

Just talking about the hardware. See Emily's Sept 2 and the Eurogamer article.

The games are of course gonna be great to see!

We know quite a lot about the hardware I would say. The thing we know nothing about are the games.

To that point: I would think that the veil of secrecy surrounding the software is far more important than the leaks we've all read about the hardware. In the end, the NX (or whatever it is actually officially named) will be a solid gaming platform, but it will be the games that make or break it. If Nintendo has some truly amazing potential killer-app type titles under their hat that no one knows about, then that will be the bigger reveal then the hardware could ever be.

another question.

all the things about power and other data gathered from reputable sources are very old by now.

is it feasible for nintendo to increment the hardware power so as to get nearer from ps4X1 in terms of specs in the last 6 or so months?

There was a rumor going around that we'd get N64-Wii remasters. That's what I'm most interested in seeing

I wonder whens the next installment of the Fire Emblem series (excluding mobile).

This whole "Hybird" speculation confuses me, how would a Fire Emblem be? Console or Handheld style?

Xenoblade is gonna be interesting. I think the series will actually benefit from the "hybrid" aspect of NX. The much larger audience from the handheld side (which is predominantly RPG-focused compared to consoles) will drive the next game sales even further than previous entries.

I'm excited for the reveal, not so much all the whining about the inevitably lesser hardware specs. What's funny is that some people will act surprised about it and complain anyway.

I mean, I hope it gets the job done but I doubt it's going to be above Xbox One.

Nintendo's first-party games are usually good at circumventing technical limitations with art direction and a smart use of tech. While they obviously aren't the most advanced games, they're still usually pleasant to look at. I don't particularly care about how strong the hardware is when it comes to Nintendo since that isn't where I'm playing multiplat games (as if it were really an option, hah). With that in mind, a low retail price is more attractive to me than beefier specs.

My mind says 1st/3rd party support (by that I mostly mean whatever post-launch games Nintendo has planned, I don't expect the thing to get very much third party support out the gate), but my heart says that it's most interested in just seeing the console get revealed finally. Like, the direct itself. Just seeing Nintendo communicate with its fans about its future a lot again.

Yeah, I forgot about this, I saw it yesterday. It might be worth to watch in parallel to the reveal for maximum fun.

That tag is so appropriate right now.

And yes Ocarina Of Time should have been a launch game. 3DS had a dog shit line up from launch up until Ocarina and then Mario 3D Land.
Something I've said in the past, Wii U and 3DS likely would've benefited from a 3-4 month delay. 3DS should've launched alongside OoT 3D and its eShop (it didn't have internet functionality for several months, IIRC). Wii U's OS was rocky and would've benefited from having the day one patch already installed as well as launching in March giving more time for these titles to be finished and a lesser wait between software (both 3DS and Wii U had large droughts and delaying both would've meant less of a wait)
I'm hoping that, for whatever reason NX was delayed, it'll translate into some of these benefits.

Just two:
1. What the fuck is this about??
2. Some good games.

Quote from the President said that the NX was delayed due to software....so that's being hopeful

Hybrid Rumour
I can't be asked to buy 2 Nintendo systems to play their games. I wanna be able to enjoy a mainlinr Pokemon and the next full Zelda on 1 system.

I could totally see SM64 HD being a thing. I totally want this being a thing.
Not sure what Wii games need an overhaul right now though. Galaxy isn't HD, but it frankly looks like it.

We're definitely going to need a couple of gaffers to watch that so it can be remembered for the sake of posterity.

Games and price. It's basically guaranteed I'll buy the system if it's going to be Nintendo's developers' new home, so the games and how much I'll have to pay to experience them in the best possible manner are what I'm interested in.

I imagine they wouldn't say they were having some issues in other departments, maybe like the chip they wanted wouldn't ready until after the holidays like the Digitimes rumor implies.
But yeah, I hope it means the line up is very solid. Zelda, Pokemon, and Mario are rumored to be year one titles, that would be a pretty big win for them especially if Zelda is a launch title so maybe it was partially delayed for Zelda?

Damn, "NX details imminent" articles trending for me on Facebook. Hard not to be excited at this point. It has to happen soon.

I want to see what Zelda looks like on NX, as well as some cool new info about it. Other then that, I want to see 3D Mario, Retro's project, and hopefully some other kind of adventure game.

8. (or it could be part of the first one) A new Zelda trailer with NX graphics

I desperately want a Metroid game.

I am also prepared for disappointment.

I'm sure I'll be fine with Zelda and whatever other surprises they have in store. I'm not much of a handheld gamer and have found myself wishing I could play console versions of DS games over the years. Very much looking forward to having the entire Nintendo catalog available to me, if that's how things pan out.

Games, basically. Nintendo is my favorite game developer/publisher but it feels like they haven't been around for quite awhile. There's nothing exciting in the horizon outside of Zelda and I'd like for them to get back in the groove of announcing new things and exciting us.
I'm interested in seeing how they'll implement the hybrid functionality like: will games always be 720p? What about a port of Smash 4 which is rumored, will that be a lesser resolution than Smash 4 Wii U despite supposedly being on superior hardware?
Also interested in seeing some unique functionality like the motion controllers as well as the price vs specs just to see how well/poorly I should expect it to sell which should translate into future support.

Man I can't take the wait anymore. Playing dk tropical freeze and watching walking dead in the evening to pass the time and working during the day. C'mom Nintendo!

I'm really looking forward to launch games (and beyond). I'm also quite interested in seeing a comparison between Breath of the Wild on the NX and Wii U. The price, of course, is going to be important to me. Given Nintendo's knack for iterating on their devices rather early on in their life cycles, if it's $300 dollars or above, I'll wait it out a bit.
