Anyone able to surmise what the four buttons atop the pro controller are?

Looks like the standard buttons are: L, R, ZL, ZR, A, B, X, Y, +, -, Home, and the rumored social/share button. These are represented on the full JoyCon setup and pro controller. Each JoyCon will have A, B, X, Y, either + or -, and either Home or Share. Each JoyCon would assumedly have half the shoulder buttons in really awkward positions; COULD have hidden shoulder buttons accessible after unclicking them from the console.

So, any idea when we'll see a price etc...?

def next week around the investors meeting, shareholders need to know

I noticed NO mobile casual games or kids. Nintendo is really targeting the core gamers.

I think Nintendo learned now thats not who they need to target right now, and they have their mobile games now and know thats where the casuals are

Does scalable processor mean games would perform better when docked?

Very likely. When portable power draw has to be kept to a minimum to even have a hope of 5-6 hours of battery life, so 720p makes sense. When plugged into the wall, the screen is off ( = less heat) and there's no battery power draw, so you can up the clockspeed instead.

It's pretty likely to be a 1080p = docked, 720p = portable situation.

I've got one problem. The DPad.

I appreciate some don't consider it too important in today's gaming world but it just seems a bit small and the placement is strange as well.

My hands aren't the largest but I can imagine it will be hard to pull off combos if a fighter ever comes to the system.

That's the + button (Nintendo's pause button). The directional buttons are on the left side.

Yes my own opinion is the processor "downclocks" when on the go to improve battery life, and then goes full power when docked.

Not the ridiculous notion that the dock has an extra cpu and gpu that "boost" games, and will be sold seperately for those that don't want a handheld.

Some people are already guessing how much the dock is and how much the deluxe bundle with handheld is lol. Man I wish that shit would stop.

Thanks that would be great at least to play full power when docked. That's all I care about :)

Just the occasional game in the bedroom from time to time.

Man, this thing is everything I wanted them to do after hearing the rumors. I do a lot of portable gaming, though mainly at home, and this looks great. I skipped out on Wii U, but now I can't wait to grab this on day one. I bet the launch lineup is going to be incredible.

No, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them offer a home-only version later, but definitively not at launch. They know how multiple SKU/devices can confuse people, they won't try it.

Also, I can't see a large price advantage of ditching the portable part, so they may keep this till they offer a different GPU, PS4-Pro style.

Why a $100 difference to basically remove a cheap 720p 6" screen, a battery and some plastic?

I agree that it likely wouldn't be at launch. However, there's more involved in the hybrid portion than just a screen, battery and plastic right? Are the joycons hollow? How are they working together with the screen? If getting rid of all that couldn't drop the price $100 it likely wouldn't be worth it to me.

"Playing MP online and can't pause? Now you don't have to forfeit the match when you need to go to the toilet"

"The New Nintendo Switch."

"Now when that person online tells you to "blow it out your ass", you can tell them that "I just did!!!"

Nintendo Switch - Switch it up on them.

Nobody?

You don't buy a console for third-party titles.

Having third-party titles is nice though.

Except that everyone buys consoles for 3rd party games. If they didn't, everyone would be playing with WiiU. Yes, some folks will buy a console for Gears/Zelda/Uncharted, but that's not where most of the market is. People tend to buy the console which is the cheapest way to play all the blockbuster games like COD, Destiny, Ubisoft and Rockstar games, for example. If your console doesn't have those, you have no chance to hang with the competition.

Still interested in the Switch. It would be the first Nintendo console for me since GameCube. Some 3rd party support is better than none. Hopefully the price is competitive. The WiiU price here in Northern Europe is a joke to this day. If you can even find it somewhere.

That trailer was corny as fuck and ripe with shitty amateur acting.

But I may actually be interested in this thing. Will wait for more details.

The trailer and the acting wereally fine. I understand there always has to be someone who shots on everything, but give me a break.

Definitely intrigued by what's been shown so far so will be interested to see more details in the next few months, not to sure about the mini controllers but for quick on the go use they could work out great...not sure the upright look of the unit though, different approach to the "fit into an AV unit" style anyway and to be fair, they are tying the home and portable aspects cleaner than they WiiU, so could be the first Nintendo home console I get since the Wii.

Nintendo has really created a unique situation with this console. People are going to basically beg developers to put their games on the Switch for portability.

The first thing I thought of was Rocket League on Switch. Id love it.

I hope the install base is huge so developers will listen to their fans :D

Interesting concept. Nintendo's role is to innovate.

BUT

It all comes down to software and support. I'll have to wait and see how they do this time.

First party-wise, I'm sure it'll be the greatest Nintendo console of all time, as they can focus all of their efforts into one console rather than splitting their efforts across portable and console.

Though thinking more, I do wonder what this means for the more "old school"-style games that Nintendo's made for portables (presumably) primarily due to their power/form factor not being able to handle the sorts of games you'd see on consoles. Will we still get games like Zelda: Link Between Worlds and Metroid Zero Mission?

Do you guys think they will sell it packed as this?

1) Handheld only
2) Handheld + dock + plastic thing in the middle

Pro controller sold separtely

Can't see how they can call this a hybrid and then not include everything shown in the reveal video in a single SKU. The point is it is supposed to be both a HH and home console in one and if they split it up in packs depending on which hardware you prefer...

So what happens when I'm playing a FPS at home using the pro controller, and then take the unit with me on the go? What is the equivalent to the triggers on the portable unit?

Enduin

No bald cap? Lies!
With the size of the dock I really really hope there is a slot in there for inserting your own HDD/SSD for storage. Handheld has to have expandable storage, but even then with games running at 720p storage space is going to be tight, even with a 128gb SD card inside it. It would be really nice to be able to toss in a 1TB HDD into the dock and be able to store and run games off that, rather than having to keep everything on the internal storage of the handheld.

So does it upscale to 1080p when docked? I hope not.

Hopefully when docked the system runs at a higher clock speed or with more cores activated and can natively run games at 1080 and other stuff.

So still no DVD playback, GG Nintendo I'm done with this shit company

it's a cartridge based console. you can't possibly be in need of a dvd player that badly, can you?

GAF squealed like little girls over the WiiU, too. Didn't pan out. Neither will this.

this is a garbage post tbh. if you don't have a reason why you think this there's no reason to be a negative douche for people's excitement for something

This thing will have more SKU's than a Korean BBQ Pit.

My issue is that with 5 kids, if this is the main gaming system for the living room, if I take the Switch to work, they'll need another tablet to dock and play. They'll have to sell the DOCK and the Tablet separate. It will not work as a bundle only system.

isnt that the case with any gaming system, phone or tablet, Computer? If you take it with you the people at home are not gonna be able to use it.

But there is the possibility that, you can use user sign ins like on Xbox, PC and PS4 with a real account system

My issue is this.

The main issue with the diminishing handheld space was the lack of a compelling argument why anyone would carry one in the age of smartphones. Handhelds were losing that argument. The "console style games on the go" argument was lost with Vita already, and people decided 99 cent smartphone games were preferrable.

What does this do to change that issue? What is the hook? People can play all third party games on more competent hardware elsewhere, and more portable games elsewhere. So you end up with the same problem as before, not compelling most of either audience.

At least that is how i see this playing out. Unless Nintendo has some remarkable marketing for the Switch.

Vitas issues was lack of support and then Sony dropping the device not even a year into the device. The 3DS was in the same situation but Nintendo kept supporting it until it became profitable.

People WANTED console games on the Go. The #1 suggestion when VITA was announced was to port games like Skyrim to it, but they never did. Now we have Nintendo Switch and that covers that desire for console games on the go.

I've seen people bring their Wii U's to colleges, air ports, and so on. Just plugged the console in and play on the tablet.

Not to mention Nintendo is combining both their console and their handheld into one. So unlike Sony where it's still separated and we can see a lack of support. Nintendo now has the best of both worlds so there will be a ton of gaming support and by evidence of Skyrim Remastered, the device is strong enough to play Xbox One tiered games on the go.

The control feature shows that it's being made with giving us choices on how we want to play. And being able to have ONE system that can do all of that.

From a consumer point of view this a great deal.
From a 3rd party stand point they have both the 3DS and Wii U market combined.

And from a current Wii U/3DS owner standpoint we can now trade BOTH our devices in for the Switch and by that alone will cover majority of the cost for the device. The biggest games for the Wii U is making it over (Mario Kart and Zelda) with the much rumored Smash Bros port coming as well. Really there is no point in owning a Wii U.

The only possible thing the Switch could announce is 3DS support since both systems use cartridges. But it looks like touch support might be gone and the cartridges as well?

Question for whoever knows, this is taken from nvidia's blog:

Does scalable processor mean games would perform better when docked?

Shot in the dark, but when NVidia says scalable processor, I think they mean they can make the processor scale to whatever their client needs (Nintendo tells them what they want), but it's fixed in the end.

But I also haven't followed any of the leaks so far... so I'm not sure if that's in the cards.

I don't know what to think. I just don't know if it will attract anyone's attention once it is released. It looks like it will play Xbox One / PS4 games with slightly lower detail settings, but on the go?

Umm, that's basically Nintendo's entire handheld strategy. They force you to have to buy another system for everyone in the house. That's why the pricing on this is so critical, it's not a home console at all, it's a portable with TV play. Getting folks used to that idea will be a lot easier with a low price point.
