I expect many model, tv only, tablet 8", 10", phone version 5" etc.

Maybe down the road. But right now the nuts and bolts of the reveal hardware is a tablet that docks. I can kind of understand people hoping for a portable-only version without the dock (though that goes against the Switch branding). But a console only version without the tablet? They haven't hinted at this at all. I get that it could happen. After all, nVidia has both a Shield tablet and a Shield TV box. But they're clearly not launching with that here.

I love the idea of the Switch but now I'm really hating see all these armchair analysts come out of the wood work again to shit on the Switch. A bunch of my friends are doing it right now instead of being moderate/excited. Really ruins the vibe I have it. It's cool if you don't like it but god literally the MOMENT the video was uploaded it was shit on.

It's a shame.

On my side, nearly all of my friends are excited and optimistic about it.

I juts hope the system comes with the regular controller and all games are compatible with with the controller and the detachable controllers.

I expect the handheld screen to be sold separately to reduce the entry costs to consumers?

You expect the switch device itself to be sold separately? You do realize the work is all done in the same portion that houses the 'handheld screen' right? That the dock is just what it uses to display on tv, right?

This looks fantastic for me. I'm there day one for sure. Look forward to playing handheld only games like Pokemon on the tv and taking my console experience with me on flights. I'm also hoping for less software droughts with Nintendo not having to split teams between console and handheld.
Skyrim is big too, not that I really enjoy elder scrolls games and even if it's older it's not something I ever expected to see on a Nintendo system. If other third parties jump on and this thing gets decent support this could be a fantastic little console.
Hoping for more sports games too, NBA is great but I'm hoping for some NHL and Madden too. Being a mostly PC / Nintendo gamer it sucks how much EA abandoned both platforms in terms of sports games.
I hope for more Wii U re-releases too since it had some fantastic games that people may have overlooked and not played because they didn't like the console.
Great little presentation video from Nintendo now bring on the games!

So you're upset that there isnt a moratorium on cold but honest reactions?

I expect many models, tv only,.

Nintendo Switch but here's a version that doesn't switch at all lol

No way Nintendo are releasing a tv only model. It would mean a complete redesign of the console.

But what's the issue here, you can use the Switch as tv only if you like.

Really? I prefer that. Hate when headphone jacks are on the bottom.
I just had to try it by inverting my 3DS lol
Cable just gets in the way because of that and you need to put it behind the console and it goes along the bottom anyway.

It's not a dealbreaker, but still a small annoyance that I'd rather not have to deal with.

To each their own though.

Echoes of this strange Saturn controller when the two pads are put together with the battery.

yep, also..

Yep, always wanted something like this on the Wii U version but people kept saying it was impossible. Glad to see Nintendo is more open than some of their fans. Can't wait for the Switch :)

Yes now it will technically be a slight delay from being able to scan down and see the battle developing, but since it'll equally impact all players it'll be fine.

I don't know.

It's crazy how Nintendo gave up the only field where they were still somehow strong and double dipping on that WiiU concept, which make me think that Nintendo and Iwata never tried to do something new but were still following the WiiU philosophy with the Switch.

Right now it's a WiiU which you are able to leave the room now.

I don't see Wii U in Switch. I mean, Wii U was basically a test of asymmetric gameplay with 2 screens. The late stage Wii U was basically a traditional console especially when they did not force the gamepad functionality on most of their later games except for outliers like Star Fox Zero. Right now, Switch is just continuing their traditional HD gaming, while being portable. Only the off TV play really carried out of the Wii U as far as I can tell.

the worse thing is they leveraged Wii u withou its main benefit over portable, more power. This will put them further from other consoles future multis (not going x86 doesnt help either).

I hope people don't misinterpret me as trying to shit on this thing as most would have seen me championing the hybrid theory for a long time and saying it's Nintendo's last chance for success.

But in all those threads I talked about Nintendo leveraging their success in the PORTABLE market, not leveraging the failures in the home console market. I'm genuinely shocked they could be this silly.

It's like everyone is so caught up in a new console reveal that they're all forgetting how much most of them hate the WiiU and what a dismal failure it was, but now think the Switch is awesome and will be a huge success? It's a WiiU, that you can play anywhere, without the touch screen. I'm just....I....I can't believe Nintendo did this.

Fuck for their sake I hope it works.

I can see them doing a Vita TV type model.

I can also see them using smart apps on your phone/tablet for the Mario Maker port.

Looking at the shoulder buttons, I guess Scroll Wheels was a red herring?

Or it is on one of the alternate controllers they will no doubt release... it is not that there is no controller gimmicks, it will have ALL the controller gimmicks!

I'm really curious. When you use the Joy-Con sideways on multiplayer, you get access to shoulder buttons that are on the part of the controller that slides in when connecting to the screen, right? Maybe in single player you can use these buttons as extras?

Still fit Switch branding if all the devices interchangeable, same OS, save, games all follow one unify account, you can "Switch" to what ever device you want.

I thought the console was NOT BC? Does that mean we are getting ports of the games shown?

Yes, they are ports. They have new content. Also they have to be modified - Splatoon has to work without the Wii U gamepad screen for the map and team jumping.

I am also very excited about it, even if I see some minor issues. It is actually exactly what I hoped for and seems to be a very cozy console to have in the future. Hopefully the software will be there for it. :]

They could do a number of different things. But it wont come anytime soon, and if it did it would depend on the success of the console.

As things stand there would be more chance of a portable only version (minus the dock) than a tv only model.

The "brains" of the console are on the handheld part. It's not as though Nintendo have the same Nvidia hardware on the dock and "tablet".

But for me personally I don't see why this is an issue, the Switch gives people the option. If they released it seperately people would complain about having to buy accessories lol

Remember the Glut of dismissive reactions to the Wii console, controller and name reveal?

People said the same when it was suggested Nintendo should make a 3DS without the 3D. And then the 2DS happened.

So in the images I can see a headphone jack on the top of the tablet, the game card port, what looks like a fan exhaust (maybe only engaged when docked? It's on the top so clearly intended to be able to function when docked), what looks like either a volume or power switch (guessing volume).

The shoulder buttons don't look particularly scrollable, hope they are...

God the detachable controllers have positive and negative symbols to indicate how they slide in I guess. For a sec when I saw it, I thought it was a ridiculously tiny Dpad.

The 3ds was successful at that point thought no?

As I said above Nintendo could do lot's of things, but I feel that will depend on the success of the Switch.

The console hasn't even been released yet and we're talking about a different version.

But I'd like to ask the same question, why can't people use it as a tv only console now? As far as I'm concerned we're getting a choice.

This is good, it's actually saving me money on buying a seperate home console and handheld.

I'm not saying Nintendo needs to make a new model already, I totally think they need to release Switch as they envision first and maybe release a hardware rev. 2-3 years from now.

It's insane to me that people are still managing to be negative about what is literally Wii/DS 2.0. It's going to print money regardless if you think hybrid is a bad idea or not. This is the natural evolution in gaming. Home gaming will be primarily PC/VR, handheld will be Switch.

Even though i buy almost all of my games digital, gonna cop the physical release of skyrim just for the novelty of owning that game on a cartridge.

Its gonna suck going back to 30fps, loading times, no mods vanilla tho
