This looks like they're showing a picture similar to the mario one nintendo posted for fun.

The New Nintendo Switch Base Edition: Now with 100% Less Switch!

Joy-con base is the middle section that you can snap the Joy-con L and Joy-con R controller pieces onto. If they named the "dock" unit I must have missed it, but I'm not dumb enough to say they would sell the NS without the dock. =)

I wouldn't be surprised if further marketing attempts will rather put the focus on mobile gaming.

The Switch can't compete with the two other consoles in anyway.

But you're effectively supporting my point.

It can't complete with the other 2. So why channel the WiiU with this thing instead of the DS?

Also, Christ, they've even gone with NGage cases? That's not a good omen.

I want one.

Right now.

I haven't owned (or really cared to own) a Nintendo console since the GameCube.

If the third party titles aren't terrible ports, then this will probably become my third party machine (due to the portability).

Never forget the NDS became a phenomenon on Japan only after the Lite redesign. Cosmetics count.
False. It exploded to record numbers in late 2005, which resulted in massive shortages until the Lite released a few months later and was able to maintain the 100+K/week supply.

Does it have an SD slot?
I haven't seen it pictured, but I think the last time Nintendo released a home or portable system without SD or microSD support was DS Lite?

I don't want to get caught up in the hype, because this is generally how Nintendo starts; I need to see how the console performs after it launches and if the support for it is consistent for months.

It does look very nice though, I'll admit.

While I was in the camp of those wanting a bit more oomph, I was never going to be a hard sell for the Switch. Zelda justifies a system purchase for me. Also, I really hope this system has a decent online infrastructure this time around.

Sooo... Holiday 2017?

I don't know.

It's crazy how Nintendo gave up the only field where they were still somehow strong and double dipping on that WiiU concept, which make me think that Nintendo and Iwata never tried to do something new but were still following the WiiU philosophy with the Switch.

Right now it's a WiiU which you are able to leave the room now.

It doesn't have to be a hard drive, it could be an SSD.

SSDs are getting cheaper, but not that cheap. It'll be internal flash storage, just like the Wii and Wii U, expandable with SD cards.

Keep in mind that the system will be too underpowered to handle the level of assets that have balooned current-gen games to 50GB+ sizes. And of course cartridges have much better read times than blu-ray discs, so installing physical games to internal storage won't be necessary.

It looks like one of the retail display cases leaked from a GameStop.

Looks fake. I seriously doubt Gamestop was sitting on any advertising assets for Switch and I don't see any reason to courier content to the stores right now with no real announcements. If Gamestop stores had Switch assets in we would have had a leak before the trailer.

Edit: N'gaged.

I was just thinking yesterday that this would be a perfect platform for hearthstone. Would be a huge coup for Nintendo. They may not get full 3rd party support but it looks like the switch is going to be more well supported than the 3DS or wii U probably combined.

Yeah this is the kind of thing they need

Those joycon controllers don't look entirely comfortable. The analogue stick and face buttons seem so close together.

Also I'm concerned that the plethora of control and set up options is going to be as confusing to consumers as it will be handy for those of us who readily comprehend such things. The Gamepad/pro controller/Wii remote arrangement left the mainstream scratching their heads. This time you've got a tablet with buttons, a tablet screen with detached buttons, the buttons can be held in each hand or one horizontally in two hands per person, then there's the pro controller too.

I'm not complaining, it's very versatile. But if people thought the Gamepad was too much to understand I'm worried simple folk won't know what to do with this.

On the plus side, two joycons (really the best name, Nintendo?) attached to the tablet means multiplayer out of the box, right? No splashing out for extra controllers, at least not out of necessity. It would be kind of Ninty to chuck a pro controller in every box too so it isn't viewed as some confusing alternative but a viable option.

Saw the trailer earlier today and just wanted to get my thoughts in. I can't believe almost every single rumor was right about how this thing looks. It's crazy. Am I excited? Yes. This seems like the natural evolution of the Wii U and keeps off tv play in a huge way. Not to mention all the (hopefully) 3rd party support this will keep getting. Totally excited!

its totally fake - an NGAGE box see above.

Edit: n/m ya found it ;)

Asymmetrical stick position! Autofail!

Honestly, it's exactly like the rumours. Skeptical that it's going to be a gamechanger since Shield bombed. It's also funny that you're switching from 60 fps to what looks like 20 fps on portable, or at least that what it looked like in the trailer.

Well let's see what it actually performs outside of a commercial.

but I don't think it is going to do anything directly on the data buses like a coprocessor type thing. .

Exactly.

In my mind the thought process is that they wanted to go for a very powerful mobile SOC, and the easiest way to get around the worry of bad battery life is simply down clock it while portable.

It's the best way to manage the hybrid performance. It was a fine line to tread between performance and battery life. So what better way than have two performance modes. As opposed to using a very weak SOC focused on battery life, or a very powerful one that reduces battery life.

Developing some sort of dual SOC system sounds expensive, complex, over complicated and with no real benefits.
