Coming from the PS4, I am blown away by the Xbox One.

My general experience is that it's fucking terrible.

Also have this happen way too often

Hold Xbox button to turn off the system

Get the vibration that tells me it accepted the input

Wait 5 seconds, still no power options

Do it again

Wait 5 seconds, get the gray bar without buttons, 3 seconds later the buttons show up

Turn off the fucking thing

See it's posts like this that I don't get, I use my Xbox pretty much every day even if it's just watching Netflix and this is how I turn the console off and I can't recall a single instance where this has happened.

Not accusing you of lying obviously because there are too many reports of issues like this or of a sluggish OS, but mine responds how I'd expect it to and in no way would I call it sluggish.

I've said in a previous thread that I have a friend who was always complaining about a sluggish box so he bought it to my place and it was like night and day all of the performance issues had disappeared indicating it was something to do with the network.

I think the user experience was way better on Xbox 360 than Xbox One.
The controller though is sublime, and far far better than DualShock 4.
The Elite Controller is pure sex.

I've never understood the complaints about the One's UI. It can be a little slow but it's aesthetically and functionally leaps and bounds beyond the PS4's convolution.

What features make it leaps and bounds functionally better than the ps4 UI? PS4 menu is about as simple as it gets.

The current Xbone UI is the worst of any console I've ever owned. Every screen is plastered with dozens of small tiles and nothing feels organised, just layers of slow-loading apps. Just a complete disaster when you add in the install process as well. It's also incredibly sluggish.

Comments like this and the weekly UI slowness threads turned me off completely from buying an S model. I actually like the look of the UI, but if it's as slow as demonstrated I'd lose my mind dealing with it. I'll just wait on Scorpio. Pray to god it's faster.

I really prefer the Xbox UI when it doesn't have occasional sluggishness when changing tabs or loading my library but it is a vast improvement from where it was at launch. I like how they manage the library, the pins that are a button press away and the store now that they've finally decided to show the prices without having to click on each item. I wish taking screenshots and video was simpler but once there is a dedicated button just for that, it's hard to go back to button combinations. (For some reason the kinect screenshot/clip feature doesn't work well for me)

Ever since the last update, my PS4 main screen has only six tiles.

I'm going to have to try and do something like this. Thanks! I knew about folders but never really looked in to it. You may have just solved one of my biggest issues with the PS4 UI. I really enjoy using the pins on the Xbox and it irritated me when Sony moved icons I'll never use to the front of the list.

Right now my menu is:

What's New (Massive improvement from how it used to be)
TV & Video (Never used)
Playstation Now (Never used)
Driveclub
Playstation Vue (Never used)
Until Dawn
Media Player (Never used)

Can anyone post what common tasks take "forever" on the Xbox One UI ?

I only read "terrible" but nobody writes why ...

I can´t think of a common action which is not accessible via 1-2 button presses.

Yup, every minute you're using an Xbone, but not in a game, is fucking misery. It's hard to remember its made by a software company, and not a plumber or something. It's just awful. Whatever, I'll suffer through a lot to get to play Sunset Overdrive.

So on my day one console, in the preview program, more recently going to the left side panel with users, friends, settings etc, it could be anywhere from instantaneous to 1-2 seconds. I picked up an S and moved my original xbox1 upstairs for the wife, and the S (not in the preview program) is much snappier, almost instant in just about everything with the occasional stutter using bumper buttons. *shrug* I wonder if many of the problems are from people trying beta products.

In terms of UI usage, the PS4 feels a little faster for the most part popping in and out of games/apps. I'm not a fan of the layout (though I haven't tried since the latest folder release) and the store is atrocious. Put me in the bin of prefering the X ui and ecosystem.

I think your way of looking at friends and parties is wrong. I just hold down the ps button and select party right from the quick select menu.

It's minimal, it's clean and it's fast. The folders really do wonders if you set them up right.

What excellent organization. Gotta bookmark this post so I can set up my PS4Pro like this

Two things about the ps4 os were really big factors in my decision to stick with the ps4 over the xbox one:
Hdmi-Cec - Press the playstation button on the ds4 and the receiver/tv turn on and set the correct inputs automatically and you're ready to play. No need to even touch the remote.
PlayGo - the vast majority of disk based games are ready to play within about two minutes of inserting the disk. Exceptions are games that are always online like The Elder Scrolls Online that require the latest patch to go online. Some offline games install only when you click the icon but those are a small minority of disk games.
Also the ds4 is far superior to the xbox one controller in every aspect except battery life.
Cant believe Microsoft fucked it up that badly after how great the xbox 360 controller was.

I've said in a previous thread that I have a friend who was always complaining about a sluggish box so he bought it to my place and it was like night and day all of the performance issues had disappeared indicating it was something to do with the network.

I have had the same thing happen to me numerous times. Hold Xbox button, power off options don't show. My Xbox also loses sync with my controller(S) and only a hard reset will fix the issue. The UI is also very sluggish at times (not always). I dread hitting left from the main window because pulling up that sidebar is typically painfully slow and the system chugs. I use instant-on and hear that might be the cause of some of that, and if that's the case it certainly shouldn't be. Hard resets don't seem to make any difference in the responsiveness. I also heard it might be your internet connection. I'm hard-wired in, open nat, internet speeds are solid.

I have about 9 other friends with Xbox Ones, and we have all experienced some or all of these things.

I envy those who truly have a flawless experience, and I wish I could say it's been the same on my end.

This isn't to bash the system either, because I'm a fan of the Xbox One, but it still needs work imo.

I'm hoping the Xbox One S is better, but I've also read about people experiencing some of these issues there as well.

Strongly disagree, especially in regards to the controller. I vastly prefer the DS4. The UI on PS4 is also 1000x more responsive than the Xbox One.

Why would they move Netflix, Vudu or Amazon? It is so annoying. And why is it inconsistent with folders then. My understanding of Game folders was the most used was moved to the front. I may be mistaken with that. But if games are not moved in folders now (which is good), why is it moved in video. Nonsense inconsistency, but at least its only taken 3 years to stop moving SOME items around.

The video folder isn't controlled by the user, it is an OS folder for video apps, as far as I know it has only moved stuff around in there when they add a new app. Game Folders are user made, you choose the order they are in, it has been that way since we got folders.

I think your way of looking at friends and parties is wrong. I just hold down the ps button and select party right from the quick select menu.
I mean, that kind of validates how it works on X1. Quick menu is still missing a few things I want but being able to customize it is neat.

Xbox One UI is hell. So much unnecessary clutter taking up space, laggy to navigate, and an ugly background with ugly colours clashing together.

I boot up my PS4 and it's just there - no ads or anything, just a list of my games and apps, sorted by what I've used most recently, with a nice blue tone in the background.

I can't speak for parties and connecting with friends and that because I don't really use it, but visually and functionally the PS4 is miles ahead.

I don't hate the UI like most people do, but the ads sprinkled in are a big pet peeve.

The ability to make achievement art the wallpaper is probably my favorite feature about the UI though.

Love the console and its UI, I have always found the ps3 and ps4 UI to be an eyesore. Thats honesly the part im not looking forward to about my ps4 pro purchase....

I felt the XOne UI is beautiful in an aesthetical kind of way. From a usability point of view it's pure horror. Too many coloumns (with hidden features and burried options), sluggish and unresponsive at times. I remember when I wanted to disable the automatic renewal of Xbox Gold, after several clicks and opening of sub-menus I finally found the option which said I have to go on xbox.com/whatever. Durr.

Yeah it's terrible, I really just can't stand it. It's extremely poor.

I really disagree with the OP. The xbox one UI has got slightly better but it is significantly worst UI out of any console.

I've never understood the hyperbole over how bad the NXOE is... My biggest complaint is with response times, which can vary from decent to slow, which is obviously less than ideal.

I've used both and I have to say, the PS4 UI is so quick and easy, I never understand the hate. Now that they have folders, whichi I never thought were needed, its about as easy as it can get. It is a straight line. You press x, or press right a few times then x, and you are playing a game. Literal seconds.

XONE always seemed jumbled with too much on the screen. But admittedly, I have played PS4 more than the XONE.

I agree, I love the XBO UI. I was PS4 only for the first year of this gen, and then PS4 primary for another eight months. It took me a bit to get used to the XBO UI, and much like a lot of folks here I hated it at first because of how used to the PS4 UI I had become. After using my XBO with more regularity along side the PS4 I started to get more accustomed to the XBO UI, and in fact started to prefer it. Once the XBO update hit last year there was no going back for me. It was a huge improvement and made the PS4 UI look like a complete joke in my eyes.

I still prefer how the PS4 handles sharing screenshots and captures, but I find everything else to be a huge step back from what the XBO is doing. On XBO I find the community section to be significantly better, the store puts the PSN store to shame in every way, the guide menu makes doing basic things much easier and much faster both in and out of game, the pin system is much more useful to me than an archaic folder system will ever be on a console, and the games/apps library is orders of magnitude better than the travesty that is the PS4 library. The PS4 UI is a bit faster in my experience, but it's at the expense of a UI that is bland, basic, and supported by a company that takes years to add new functionality. Three years in and I still can't hide items in the library.

Pretty nice. I just don't like that there's no automatic sort option within the folder. It should work like the Library sorting function so that we can at least do an alphabetical sort on all items in a folder.

You went from a nice, simple, slick UI to the worst UI in gaming history and love it? Well, opinions and all that I suppose.

I mainly disagree about the UI (at least when navigating) but the controller and the fact that the console is so damn quiet is making Xbox One my first choice right now. Although I'll keep getting back to PS4 whenever great exclusives come out.

That's certainly odd, since the default PS4 UI basically puts most-used tiles at the front while pushing the least-used tiles to the back. I never noticed it cluttering the list with unused apps.

Anyway, since the folders were introduced all clutter is gone anyway. It's great.
All I want though, is for Sony to let me change the colour of the tiles. But that's a minor thing.

PS4 interface is better ,Xbone feels like a collage.

I like the simple design and the way you can create folders on PS4.

Do not know why MS chsnged the 360 interface since is way better than the current one.

I think the NXOE is better than the PS4's in terms of layout, functionality, and ease of use. I just double tap the Xbox button and I have friends, party, messages, achievements, notifications, settings, etc right there and I dont even have to leave a game. From this Guide, I can just tap X or Y to save a clip or screenshot, or hover left over a Friend and just tap X to automatically start a party with him/her. And the Guide hardly ever lags for me.

The OS can be sluggish overall, however. Such as when you switch tabs in the main Dash, or loading apps or pages sometimes.(Though I have to say, Its not as bad as some people say, at least in my own experience.)

But yeah, I think the current XB1 dash is great. I cant believe some here are saying its the worst ever for a console lol wut? Just cause it can be sluggish doesn't mean its still not functionally very efficient.

I thought OPs post was sarcasm at first.

The Xbox One UI is atrocious which is compounded further by how fucking laggy it is. It's like the Vita in that everything is it's own 'app' which is annoying as hell, even to do something as simple as checking achievements. The snap functionality is garbage. Taking a screenshot to share with friends is nowhere near as easy as the literal one button push on the PS4. The store layout is a fucking mess. Ads are slathered over the entire front page (oh and all your games are in the little box in the top right). Why the fuck am I going back INTO THE GAME by pressing B? What is happening?

I was just saying people use the "PS4 takes long to find the game I want" argument in these threads sometimes, and was giving my retort. It just brings the last game you played to the front. Unless you play 10 games at a time, there should be no issue.

I just said I have played PS4 much more, and said it was my opinion as well.

I bought an XB1 S just a couple of days ago for GoW4. Honestly, the UI is so, so, bad, especially coming from the PS4. I couldn't believe how laggy it is. The PS4 UI, I didn't realize until recently, really is just wonderfully lightweight and intuitive.

As for the controller, I'm someone who believes the original 360 controller is king, so I thought getting the XBone controller that it'd be the same. Not true. The PS4 controller is significantly better than the XBone standard controller, there is just no comparison.

It's really a shame, I think the hardware on the X1 S looks awesome, but just such sloppy UI and weird ergonomics of the XB1 S controller, has tempered my initial excitement.

No it friggin isn't, at worst the UI is a little sluggish. The design has seen many improvements over the last year too.

Horrific.. Come on man.

I agree. Some people here are really blowing it out of proportion. Its nowhere near as bad as some say, and as Ive said, I personally think its the better Dashboard.

Xbox ui is amazing. Not sure why people say it's slow or chunky I havent had any problems. Add kinect voice commands and it's even better.

The video folder isn't controlled by the user, it is an OS folder for video apps, as far as I know it has only moved stuff around in there when they add a new app. Game Folders are user made, you choose the order they are in, it has been that way since we got folders.

OK, but that just restates the problem. And the items dont just move when there is a new app, its also whenever an up is updated, and sometimes (not sure if this is true) based on use.

And lets not make it seem folders have been around forever. The solved the moving item problem for games a few weeks ago. For 3 years they have moved every item around all the time, it sucked. Now they just move SOME of the items around all the time. Still sucks and inconsistent as well. Xbone isnt perfect, plenty of problems there. But in this case it beats PS4 hands down. Pin it there, it stays there.

The hell did I just read? Is this backwards day today. The ui alone is so much in favor of the ps4 that it's hard to take the rest of the post seriously.
