Coming from the PS4, I am blown away by the Xbox One.

Glad you like it! Being day 1 for both consoles, I ended up using my PS4 as a game only machine and my Xbox One for everything else. I think the PS4 UI is a tragedy of wasted space and too much space wasted for things not even installed. Xbone UI has come a long way and just needs some performance tweaks to make it perfect.

Ever since the last update, my PS4 main screen has only six tiles.

  • What's new (friends/community feed)
  • Games
  • TV/Media
  • Apps
  • Library
It's minimal, it's clean and it's fast. The folders really do wonders if you set them up right.

Is there anyway to put folders within folders? I'm doing this setup but would like to group my games further within that folder.

yeah, the XB1 menu and UI is complete garbage. I still have to stumble around to find my games list, achievement list, etc.

This is just hyperbolic bull. The games and apps is in the upper right hand corner EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU TURN ON THE SYSTEM.

Its ok to not like the interface, but you dont need to go over the top to make things up.

I like the Xbox One better until I have to go to it's store. Why is it so slow?

However I still like the PS3 interface better than both of them. :p
Well, minus the store again :/

I own both and honestly can't think of a single thing on xbox one that i prefer over ps4. The whole console just feels clunky and needlessly difficult to navigate. The only time it doesn't frustrate me is when I'm in a game and have nothing to do with its OS. It doesn't really have any exclusives that interest me either, so I've played like 3 games on it since I got it at launch. Disappointed in that honestly, I just assumed there would be several exclusives on it that Id want so I went ahead and got the console.

Which is unfortunate, because ill likely switch to scorpio for all 3rd party games as its probably going to be the best experience for them besides PC. But we will see how it turns out.

Two things about the ps4 os were really big factors in my decision to stick with the ps4 over the xbox one:
Hdmi-Cec - Press the playstation button on the ds4 and the receiver/tv turn on and set the correct inputs automatically and you're ready to play. No need to even touch the remote.
PlayGo - the vast majority of disk based games are ready to play within about two minutes of inserting the disk. Exceptions are games that are always online like The Elder Scrolls Online that require the latest patch to go online. Some offline games install only when you click the icon but those are a small minority of disk games.
Also the ds4 is far superior to the xbox one controller in every aspect except battery life.
Cant believe Microsoft fucked it up that badly after how great the xbox 360 controller was.

You can set the XBO so it turns your television and sound system on and off when you turn it on/off.

And not many games are playable in two minutes unless you count looking at the menu while the rest of the game installs. But that's a problem with both systems.

So really it's just the controller. And each to their own on that one.

I've never had a problem with the UI like some people do. I like that I can arrange the games and apps that I use most so they appear right at the bottom and I don't have to scroll through a list of games, etc. Going through friend lists and everything is pretty fast and works well.

The only thing I wished better was the party system. I wish it worked like it did on the 360. Feels like a giant step back and I've encountered many problems with it over the years. Hopefully they are able to fix it for Scorpio.

I don't have a PS4 though so I'm not sure if that is something I would like better but I was not a fan of the PS3's UI, etc.

Using the Xbox UI is just frustrating for me ...and the worst is that I probably would really LIKE it, if it was just faster - a LOT faster. It's got a boost some weeks ago, but it's still waaay too slow.
Should they ever get there and have it fast(maybe on scorpio) it needs snappier sound design that goes along with that.

Lastly, I want a button (or button combo like the Steam Link uses) to take a screenshot!! I always miss the perfect moments on Xbox.

I love the XB1 UI. I spend more time using my PS4 but I really, really enjoy the time I do spend with my Xbox. One of my favorite features is the social aspect, and how easy it is to keep up with my friends' progress in games and see their captures.

Yeah.....no.

I have both, but really don't like the UI on the Xbox....like others have said though, if I could use the controller on my PS4 I would be a happy man!

You're grips with the PS4 party creation is incorrect. The new PS4 firmware lets you create a party from the quick access menu, just like on xbox basically.

I was just saying people use the "PS4 takes long to find the game I want" argument in these threads sometimes, and was giving my retort. It just brings the last game you played to the front. Unless you play 10 games at a time, there should be no issue.

I just said I have played PS4 much more, and said it was my opinion as well.

"/shrugs"
Ok sure but it's not like people weren't saying the same thing more often about the X1. The home screen has an active app, 3 recent apps, your pins, and a library "folder". It's not confusing. Switching apps is just slow.

Welcome! I was in the same boat as you. Liked my PS4 but I couldn't pass up playing Halo 5. Once I got the Xbox UI down, it's been one of my favorite consoles.

Overall, I like the XB1 UI, but it could use a redesign for simplicity's sake. I can definitely see a new user having a hard time figuring out how to do some things. Hopefully, MS goes to a more minimalist design for the next OS refresh. A PS4-like home screen set up with the current "guide" menu functionality would be great.

I personally don't agree with you about your about social or ui but each his own

I just wish the Xbox store was a little bit quicker and I wish the installs where faster

Don't know man, I always hated the stacked boxes and ads for games all over the place

The controller is money though

Same for me. There's pretty much nothing about the console I prefer. The UI is the lowest aspect.

That said, the controller is excellent (After the shoulder button fix at least).

I like the look of the XBO interface. Microsoft truly does have sleek presentation. And fuck that new white PS4 notification.

That said, it's a disaster and horrible to use. Even my friend, who is as blind a Microsoft fanboy as they come (self-admitted) hates the UI. It's clunky, slow, and confusing.

But at the end of the day, it's only a UI. Something you'll likely only spend 2% of your total time with the console navigating through. What matters are the games and that experience. And that's where neither company really has an advantage over the other.

Both are good systems.

But Vita is best.

Maybe it's because I go all digital but install times are perfectly fine for me. The store on the other can be a nightmare. It always lags and I often end up pressing buttons more than I should making the navigation a pain in the ass. Very frustrating.

And without the need for HDMI-CEC support, so that's even better.

I absolutely hate it. Its better than it was, but its not intuitive or sleek. Heres hoping they have something new in store for scorpio cause if they use this UI, its not gonna help them at all with word of mouth. They need a new UI for scorpio that i have no doubts.

There's a reason why I haven't touched my PS4 in months.

I simply hate using the thing. And the controller is absolutely terrible.

I wish it was faster but I think I prefer the XBO UI over the PS4. The PS4's speed is fantastic but the inability to jump around quickly with the triggers and bumpers like you can on XBO is a ridiculous oversight.

Honestly I'm pretty sure I can navigate just as fast on the laggy XBO UI as I can on the PS4's because MS actually gives you the ability to skip around like that.

And yes, the controller is godly. It'll be interesting to see what MS cooks up for Scorpio now that Kinect is all but officially dead.

I think the NXOE is better than the PS4's in terms of layout, functionality, and ease of use. I just double tap the Xbox button and I have friends, party, messages, achievements, notifications, settings, etc right there and I dont even have to leave a game. From this Guide, I can just tap X or Y to save a clip or screenshot, or hover left over a Friend and just tap X to automatically start a party with him/her. And the Guide hardly ever lags for me.
Instead to double tap,.. just hold the PS button... everything there without leave the game.

I own both and use them regularly. PS4 UI, store and speed is better than how it's on Xbox one.

What's a better way to open the quick menu, double tap or a single hold? I would choose the latter.

The speed is the only real thing wrong with the XB1 interface. Otherwise I feel like it's far better than PS4's but the speed is enough of a downer that I can't say it's better overall.

Xbox has ADs. Last week there was a gears 4 tab (a tab, not just an ad), this week there is a battlefield tab. (And everytime i start or exit a game in mcc a full screen gold ad pops up.)

Digital depends a lot how your connection is... takes about 2-3 days to download a 50GB game in my connection (Brasil here) so discs are always better option.

I hate the double tap. It doesnt always work properly. Ill double tap and instead of opening the quick menu, it will bring me home. Its little things like this that infuriate me about this UI.

Why is there a "hold" button to close console/controller and "double tap" to access quick menu. Why have 2 different menus at this point? Why not just do it a "hold button" and put everything in that one menu?? Such stupid decisions.

I even mentioned this last year while in the preview forums and they did nothing about it.

Can't say I share the same opinion.

I find it confusing and unintuitive, slow and buggy. It crashes or freezes on me and everything feels like it's just covered in molasses. The store is especially hard to search through.

But I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I don't know if there is anything wrong with promoting games, ads for non gaming related stuff is something I take issue with however.

I just wish Microsoft would do that type of marketing for smaller indie games. A tab for a game like Ori or upcoming games like Cuphead or Below would be a good thing in my opinion.

I don't know man I tried to installed endless Odyssey it took five hours. and I have pretty fast Internet. Hell I downloaded the new hitman game on PS4 in less then 30 mins

There's a reason why I haven't touched my PS4 in months.

I simply hate using the thing. And the controller is absolutely terrible.

I sold mine after I finished Uncharted4. It was neck and neck with the WiiU (also sold) for least played console I've ever owned.

Everything about using my Xbox is better than my PS4, it's just so nice and intuitive after the last few dashboard updates.

PS4 UI is much easier to navigate AND its faster. Xbox battery life is definitely better in the controller. the Anniversary update helped but its just less of a chore to get to that you want in the PS4 UI

I think I've just had bad luck when using an Xbox 1 but I found the UI and OS to be an absolute clusterfuck in design and implementation. Worse yet we had a lot of weird bugs and issues popping up. Its by no means a bad console but I would not praise the UI what-so-ever for all the issues it has.

I think what the OP and people are missing is that.... they are using the current state/iteration of OS.

Those of us who were/are there since Day1 know how much bigger piece of shit it was .... but it has gotten a lot better after 3 years....with updates..

PS4 OS has been rock solid since day 1, even today I think that the PS4 OS is what a console OS needs to be, Simple-Quick-Sleek and most importantly to the point. I boot a console to play games and the game tiles are in my face.

I live the XboxOne OS as well, especially the internet browser but sometimes even when going to "settings" it crashed with 0Xffff errors or "This App took too long to start".

I much prefer the PS4 OS and I hope that with Scorpio MS makes the OS a lot faster.

*** Also I wanted to mention, on Xbox360 MS gave an option to directly boot the game in DVD Drive, why have they not provided that option on XboxOne?

The interface was designed with Kinect in mind. From that perspective, it works. Now that the majority interact with the UI via controller, it's a little more cumbersome. That said after using it for awhile, thibgs do become second nature.

If OP was blown away by default controller, the Elite will cause him to faint.

What's funny is the dashboard is different in different regions. The US one has loads more advertisements and even an additional page, compared to many European ones (I'm using the Norwegian version). This means it's slower and more cumbersome if set to USA.

Personally, I do prefer the Xbone over the PS4 as well. I think it's generally also a better media player.

I've been a sony fan boy for as long as its been around. But I must say that since switching the xbox one S, I'm loving the system. I do feel like its UI could be cleaned up, and the store needs sped up. But the overall experience on the xbox, for me at least, is better than the ps4. I use my ps4 for Destiny and that's it. I will say tha the ps4 update did make it a little easier, but wasn't enough for me. I'm in love with the xbox controller and that is a big thing for me as well.

I personally think the tiled interface of the Xbox One is a complete shit show. Ads, Ads everywhere, and I feel like Major Nelson as the poster child is a weird choice.

I'm on the side of having zero issues with he xbone os. It definitely takes 5 minutes to learn where things are, but once you know where things are I've never have an issue.

Ps4 is quite good and definitely a bit quicker but we are talking about a few seconds difference, and even after the new update on ps4, I find the quick menu on bone to be quicker when it comes to parties and online gaming.
