Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

I don't know how anyone can pretend this is a fake photo. It came out before Nintendo unveiled the Switch, and every single aspect of it corresponds to the retail Switch Nintendo has shown in the reveal video. The volume buttons, the vents, the game card port, etc. Everything is there and in the right place and looks exactly like the retail unit. I don't see how anyone could have photoshopped this.

You can even see the side panels that cover where the slots go with the same notch at the top.

Why are you commenting on this fake photo? And why are you posting it anyway?

A fake photo which has more or less the exact design of the Switch shown in the video? Including shape and placement of fan as well as placement of buttons and card slot? Including shape of the screen and overall shape of the device? That would be a very strange coincidence.

I think it's pretty safe to say that is the official dev kit. Unless the fakers were very lucky in getting the placement of the game cart slot, the headphone jack and the design and placement of the vents bang on.

Fair points. OK, it might be real.

Over 10 million views for the YouTube video.

That Red Dead trailer got smacked around like a rag doll. Also funny to see this thread well over 100 pages with multiple spin off threads and the RDR2 trailer didn't even hit 20 pages.

Relevant because of that joker GarciaHotspur that said RDR2 trailer would get 6-7 times more views. That guy needs a tag.

Because people that called the reveal said it was fake.

Lmao. You could barely got on Neogaf for like an hour and a half after the Switch revealed too.

That "NX dev kit" which was floating around today was a mock up based on the rumours available. Dev kit looks very different."

she's been spot on with her info, not just in regards to Nintendo

no reason to doubt this

she was the one who reported the Until Dawn VR game

where supermetaldave64?
Dead pretty much lol

Also 3million more views since I went to bed and 2 million people talking about it on FB. Waiting for the hype to die down and doing part 2 with the games and features in January would be the smart move for them honestly.

Also reminder, this should go up for preorder in December like the 3DS with a place holder price

I think this puppy is poised to do pretty well right out of the gate. Anecdotal, but several of my friends who are and have been avid gamers have spent the last five years making excuses and trying to justify why they should or shouldn't get a Wii U, never ending up doing so... but then after this announcement yesterday, they are casually talking about how they're going to buy a Switch when it launches as though it were as natural as buying lunch.

Ok so seeing as we're meant to take everything Laura says as stone cold facts.

The battery of the Switch is mediocre
The dock has additional hardware that improves performance (despite Nintendo claiming the contrary)
Nintendo will be revealing full hardware specs before the end of the month
There is a multi-touch screen
Nintendo will be revealing price before the end of this month

I could definitely be wrong, but the more I see this, I think we'll see some minor revisions to the hardware before launch. Something about it still seems like it's not quite final.

This wouldn't be unusual. We saw the Wii U gamepad get minor changes between E3 and the launch later that year.

I'm hoping the screen on the portable end is high quality. Always been the one thing disappointing about Nintendo's DS family portables.

Whats more likely, someone went through some wacky amount of work to make something real look fake as fuck when trying to leak something as being real

or

someone took some picture from a random car GPS and called it the NX

But are you guys seriously hanging on that one tweet and to say that a lady with blue hair decides what's right or wrong on the internet ?

Her claim is taken into consideration, nothing more.

here's a tweet from zhuge about both

"Nintendo Switch vs Red Dead on Twitter.

Red Dead = blue (From first image to trailer)
Switch = Yellow"

I see no reason to doubt her, she seems to be very careful with what information she shares with the public and has a near (if not totally) spotless track record so far. plus she's hit on so may aspects of the NX thus far, the split dpad, it being thought of as a portable home console first not a handheld that connects to the TV, looks like the share button is in, etc. etc. etc.

also the switch almost assuredly has a touch screen, likely multi-touch because I'd assume they're using a capacitive screen this go around. just because they don't want to lead with that in the reveal doesn't make it not so.

As I said some posts ago, that could be a debug unit, not a dev kit. Dev kits are basically monstruous, but debug units tend to be almost the same as the actual console. It matches too much to be a fake or a mockup and Laura could be wrong in some stuff.

Honestly, I don't see what you're saying. Like, maybe I'm alone in this, but if I can buy the same games for the same price, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of visual fidelity just to have the option to take it on the go. You give me the option to play Persona 5 or Final Fantasy VII or Battlefield on the Switch, and suddenly my PS4 becomes what my Wii U was--a console for first party stuff. I don't see why I would want the PS4 version.

I mean, this is what the Vita promised and failed at. This is essentially what handhelds have been trying to do from the beginning. I can understand concerns about third party support, price, and how much visual fidelity will be sacrificed, but I don't understand people taking an issue with the hardware and concept itself.

well, considering people are already bashing this generation for being underpowered, losing visual fidelity for a console that is releasing in 2017, with PS4 Pro and Scorpio in the Horizon... well, it will be hard to sell. And if i am not mistaken NIntendo consider it more as a home console....
It can be used on the go, but have you seen the size? this isn't a device you carry with you all the time (and we still do not know how it will perform and its battery life in portable mode), and that is a market that is in a difficult position with smartphones, and 3DS being less successful than DS
And price.... nintendo always sells at profit, so i expect this to be expensive. And we have many ?? yet, like online infrastructure, friends etc....

And many people have already their digital purchases and games tied to sony or MS so why change everything midgen??
We will see, it will be interesting, but i think this will fail as a popular console. It will still sell ,though, it is nintendo after all.

So why does the fake dev kit look more or less exactly like the retail unit, including placement of buttons, fan, shape of unit and screens, and so on...? Why not "fake" the retail unit instead then if that person got to fake the unit exactly the way it turned out to look like?

More likely that this person was wrong in this particular case. There are different dev kit designs for the same system.

There is a multi-touch screen

No they didn't. They simply said the docks main purpose is other things, not that those were its ONLY purpose. I don't know why people are so convinced we know everything about the system when literally all Nintendo have given us is that it allows you play on TV or on the go. They mentioned amiibo in an interview, without even showing where the NFC reader on the controller is, were evasive about the touch screen, region locking and even 3rd parties with games shown can't officially comment on them yet

Ok so seeing as we're meant to take everything Laura says as stone cold facts.

The battery of the Switch is mediocre

That's pretty much a guarantee. Unless Nintendo invented better battery tech.

The dock has additional hardware that improves performance (despite Ninten do claiming the contrary)

Citation needed. Might be not exactly like this if I remember correctly.

Nintendo will be revealing full hardware specs before the end of the month

Again, it's not exactly like this. Here, I'll do this one for you:

Expect price, date, specs and specific games expanded on by the end of the month investor call.

But I don't believe this either.

But are you guys seriously hanging on that one tweet and to say that a lady with blue hair decides what's right or wrong on the internet ?

Is this necessary or relevant in any way?

No it was apparently a random gps unit according to some lol.

Are people blind, that picture is balls on accurate with vents, cart placement, and the actual design.

Whoever created that picture had some insider knowledge, they didn't just guess that shit and get lucky.

That's pretty much a guarantee. Unless Nintendo invented better battery tech.

Why is it a guarantee? We have no clue of the different power modes when the switch is docked or not. At this stage I'd rather wait on hands-ons from various gaming and media outlets, and then ultimately my own experience when I buy it.

Laura got a few things right, but it seems that now she's being given a free pass, and we're expected to take every single thing she says as gospel.

No one on the internet is given a free pass. To be fair I had never heard of her, it seems as though she's come under the spotlight recently no? Or was she always a known entity with regards to reliable leaks?

Now before someone takes me the wrong way, I'm not saying that me not knowing who she was means she's nothing, just that from my view she wasn't touted as a knonn entity until recently, but perhaps I've missed her involvement elsewhere with regards to other games, hardware etc.

I wonder if Nintendo is going to sell that headrest attachment for the Switch? It seemed pretty cool when they were playing Mario Kart in the vehicle.

Out-there theory: what if the joy-con's structure of naming them is to allow for more joy-con line controllers?

Joy-Con N
Joy-Con S
Joy-Con 64
Joy-Con G
Joy-Con W
Joy-Con U

Another theory that goes on different levels of crazy:
1. Wii U pro is supported
2. Wiimotes are supported and the Gamepad acts as a pro controller
3. The Gamepad is supported and can act either as a proxy for the Switch if you desire something sturdier or asynchronous

I could definitely be wrong, but the more I see this, I think we'll see some minor revisions to the hardware before launch. Something about it still seems like it's not quite final.

This wouldn't be unusual. We saw the Wii U gamepad get minor changes between E3 and the launch later that year.

The share button or whatever it is doesn't seem final at least.

That picture shares a lot of similarities with the actual Switch tablet. It may not be a devkit which usually are big and ugly machines that don't look at all like the console but a debug console, that tend to be a lot more similar.

This sounds very plausible.

I hope the Switch supports legacy controllers like the Wii U Pro controller. They've been doing this for two generation now.

The "leak" specifically calls it a devkit

I think this is where I am this morning:

-- a lot of this rests on what Nintendo does with the DS line.

-- Are they actually going to kill it off and truly converge their output onto a single device? The Switch has game cards, it's mobile, all it really needs to be somewhat backward compatible with the 3DS is portrait mode. It makes a lot of sense. If they do converge then this system gets all the games and I think we're looking at a megahit in a sector (mobile) they're much better at than Sony or MS. It makes too much sense.

-- Are they NOT going to kill off the DS line? Is the DS-next going to be cross-compatible with the same-size gamecards? It could happen! I just don't know how. Why would they do this when they have a mobile unit?

-- I dunno. Part of me says it makes so much sense for Nintendo to converge onto one device. get u a device that can do both, I say. But how can this device replace the DS? Is it bc with the last unit like every handheld they've released?

-- The other part of me says that it Nintendo isn't going to risk its one sure bet. In which case the Switch will be a disaster that nobody is truly asking for -- it only makes sense if this thing is a cohesive strategy. Imagine them NOT killing off the DS line, letting the Switch somewhat cannibalize their mobile space.

So many questions. Either Nintendo has a lot more to show us and they're combining their efforts into one (or releasing a cross-compat unit?) or they're not. But if they're not I think they should prepare for disaster.

-- the 'no game announcements' panic could easily be boiled down to a cynical exec's opinion that they should milk one more holiday season for the WiiU. It's dumb but if you squint you know that's exactly what they're thinking.

I don't know, I'm just a lowly gamer without any direct knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes

I just tend to lend credence to people who seem to have solid sources and have a history of reporting correct information, which she does

No camera for AR or videochat on there, correct?

I don't think any were spotted, no.

It's probably the feature I'll miss the least, Face Raiders and the AR games were cute, but then you go to to a distant 3rd of the Kid Icarus AR cards with very little else of substance.

Fake edit: wait, doesn't Sun & Moon have support for QR codes? That's throws a wrench in things.

How is it botched? Let's wait next week and hear more from them.

Botched is too strong of a word, that was the Wii U's reveal, but there's a reason consoles are announced with games alongside it - the games are what matters most.

We know about Zelda and seeing a glimpse of the new Mario was awesome, but painfully brief.

What else we saw was:

Skyrim - A five year old (and bad) game, which may not actually even appear on the console it transpires.
Mario Kart / Splatoon - Which may be remasters and/or expanded versions of the Wii U game.
"Casual" sports games - Okay they have to try and hook the casuals but not exciting.

There's not a lot to get excited about right now about the console other than a game we've seen for the last 6 months and 4 seconds of Mario footage.

Pretty disappointing.

This sounds very plausible.

It doesn't though if we're relying on Laura to confirm everything

She simply says that it was an image made from recent rumours. Or to be balls on accurate:

That "NX dev kit" which was floating around today was a mock up based on the rumours available

Surely she would have said if it was a debug kit no?

And I didn't see any rumours that showed exact placement of the vents and cart slot. Perhaps the person that created the "mock up" just got very lucky lol.

DS dies if Switch is a massive success. It continues if Switch bombs.

Look at the GBA -> DS transition. DS was originally announced as a third pillar at the time, too. When DS took off, they dropped Gameboy real quick.

oh fuck off with this

can we all please stop with this shit? seriously it's awful. these people put themselves out there for our benefit and all some of yall can think to do is to constantly shit on them. it wasn't cool in the NX thread about emily rodgers, it's not cool now, and it won't ever be cool. don't care if this sounds soap box-y or whatever because it deserves to be called out. stop with this shit. get this kind of shit out of our collective gaming culture. please.

For the first time in a decade Nintendo will be able to focus exclusively on game design

Not since the dying days of the Gamecube have Nintendo been able to make games without having to ponder how to shoehorn in pointer controls or a use for a second screen. While these features were often nice, they rarely added a huge amount to the gameplay. Mario is not defined by pointer controls, Zelda is not defined or improved by 1 to 1 swordplay.

While maps on a second screen are nice, any time the gamepad was used for anything more it ended up disappointing or inferior to alternative control methods

The Switch allows them to return to pushing innovation though design, and not novelty, which can only been seen as a massive plus going forward

"Lady with blue hair" has more credibility than "random anonymous poster on 4chan with no track record whatsoever"

In just one day is the most viewed video on the Nintendo Youtube channel, #1 twitter trending and Youtube... this is going to be the Wii all over again guys. BTW the majority of comments are positive.
Let's not kid ourselves, this will not do Wii numbers. The concept, while new, isn't exactly unthinkable.

I do believe this will sell fine though. Personally speaking I'm waaaay more excited about this than I have ever been about the Wii U. Not as much as the Wii, but then again, I grew up so that might not be a fair comparison.

This post nails exactly what I like about the switch. It pushes innovation but not at the cost of the conventional.

I do wonder if parents are going to buy switches for their younger kids. Seems like this would be much more expensive and less durable than Nintendo's traditional handheld designs.

this would make sense

Yeah, but in this case her comment does not really appear logical based on what we know and see. She definitely knows her stuff, but in this case it does not make sense unless we believe that somebody faked a dev kit that looks more or less exactly like the retail unit, which is more than just unlikely.

But are you guys seriously hanging on that one tweet and to say that a lady with blue hair decides what's right or wrong on the internet ?

That's not necessary, especially as she's done great work.

I don't agree with bringing up someone's sex or appearance, as that doesn't effect anything in my opinion. Someone could be male, female, black, white, overweight, anorexic, trans, disabled, I don't care. I'm just interested in the news.

My only issue is why we're suddenly expected to believe everything as gospel now. As far as I know leakers generally don't always have reliable information.

The better leakers generally try and seek verification from multiple sources before leaking anything right? Which Laura claims happened with the naming of the console, she basically said she was told a name but couldn't verfy it from other sources so held back. But apparently the name she was given was Switch.

But with things like her claim of the battery life, I don't think it's unreasonable to wait for actual hands ons as opposed to being shot down unless you believe Laura and that it's mediocre.

I guess ultimately what I'm saying is that because someone has been right in the past does NOT guarantee that any future information will be 100% accurate 100% of the time.

I do wonder if parents are going to buy switches for their younger kids. Seems like this would be much more expensive and less durable than Nintendo's traditional handheld designs.

A lot of parents have bought their kids iPad minis or just straight up iPads, which are more expensive most likely and probably more or equally as fragile. If the hype is there and kids ask for it they'll get it.

Wow @ Slaytendo ending literally everyone

They won, pack it up guys, the king is back.

The way they blew my weave off, whew!
