Coming from the PS4, I am blown away by the Xbox One.

No It's trash because it's slow and unwieldly it has become even with accessing the basic menus. It also doesn't help when parties crap out fairly consistently and the whole experience is poor.

Comparing it with PS4 just shows how bad it has become. The PS4 is worlds better and has been since launch. The 360 interface is also much better.

It seems like you and the other ones defending the Xbox One don't want to hear anyone having negative opinions about it.

More like, the vast vast vast majority of complaints people bring about the UI aren't based in fact. It's sluggish to load pages sometimes, that's a universal truth everyone admits, but shit like "unwieldy accessing basic menus" like..what are you even talking about? or people who say it's a jumble of icons. Sorry, an icon is a replacement for words with a picture, shit like that is just patently false. If it could be snappier and not have shit like achievements or settings as seperate mini apps that take a moment to load, it would be fantastic, but 'confusing' is not a word that makes sense in this day and age comparing it to other console UIs. They're all 'confusing' in the same minor ways, and anyone that's ever touched a phone or computer should be able to intuit what they're doing within minutes.

I don't think anyone is arguing that it's slow. It is pretty slow, slow doesn't make it confusing etc.

What about it is unwieldy when accessing basic menus? What menus are you talking about here? Getting to where you need to be is easy and incredibly fast in terms of button presses. Literally everything is at your finger tips.

What are you talking about? What basic menu function is unwieldy? People that insist on pushing narrative that its bad never actually have specific examples it seems.
How long it takes to for friends to come up, accessing the full game list and it taking forever to load. It's slow doing anything not to mention parties not working all the time, either someone showing disconnected and being unable to hear even if they are online and ingame. The ready to install list taking a long time to come up.

bad is a word that I would use for it, it has regressed and not in a good way. It's slightly better since they moved the game and apps to the top right but it's still very poor.

I really liked DS4 controller when I started using it a couple of years ago but then I got a Xbox One controller for my PC. I was blown away by the comfort and how well the controller is designed. I am invested heavily in PS ecosystem but MS for sure has the better controller. I wish I can use MS controller on my PS4.

The art for my games list takes a minute to populate sinceit's got so many tiles, but the functionality is there the moment I go to it. Friends list doesn't take me any time to come up either.

The former problem is surely directly related to how many images it's loading at once (I just deal with the default hard drive since I'm primarily a PC gamer, for instance, so my 'installed' games list is pretty small and loads instantly. my ready to install list is like 70 things as you can see, which isn't gigantic but isn't small, and that takes a bit, but as noted I can still USE it just fine I just can't see the pictures).

That's certainly an interesting opinion.

I sold my Xbox One primarily because how bad I believed the UI to be when compared to the PS4, so yay for everyone having a console to play I guess.

There is a delay for opening everything, it's all stacked in boxes and ads and apps within apps

It is UI hell

Yeah... No... This is the opposite for me. Xbox UI is just awful and cluttered mess with so many ads. Blades was a good UI and the original NXE was okay too but the metro style just drives me nuts.

That's speed (in terms of how long it takes stuff to load). So again... what basic menus are you trying to access that is "unwieldy"?

You said it's "slow and unwieldy" and yet, when asked for examples, you go back to how slow it is.. Nobody is saying it's fast.

I have both, UI on both have their issues.. .PS wins cause Xbox One can be slow... I really like the controller over the Sony DS - this is my first Xbox and been Sony x4. I'm not a graphics/30-60fps guy (when you hit 40s seeing the screen clear is a plus) - but as long as I dont have crashes - I'm okay, I'm too lazy to upgrade my PS HDD and my XB1 has a larger HDD so I default to that when there are no major issues. If I had a gripe about the XB1 - installing a game from disk - PS4 is so fast vs XB its pathetic... Hence the reason I wont upgrade my HDD as Im mainly physical...

Ever since the last update, my PS4 main screen has only six tiles.

It's minimal, it's clean and it's fast. The folders really do wonders if you set them up right.

I got mines just like this but I got a PSN Now folder for some reason lmao

Parties is the big one. Where like I mentioned it will disconnect users sometimes out of the blue when nothing has changed or not let invites go out to people in a party.

Like...the most common complaints make literally no sense.
"How do I get to my games though?!?!"

"Oh, you mean you press right once to get to "My games and Apps"? Well...I was trying to call that hard..."

Uhm, lets be a bit more objective and add that this button has been added just a few months ago at that position if I remember right. It took Microsoft over 2,5 years to add this button, I wonder just why they added it there ;).

Also the my apps section was also improved a lot not too long ago I think.

When was the last time you used Xbox One?

Just curious because that did used to be an issue like 2 years ago or something (probably way off :P but at least a year) but hasn't been for me since they updated party chat however long ago. This is actually the first time I've heard about any party chat complaints in a while..

I love when people post LITERAL bullshit.
Here's a screenshot of my home screen over two years ago

That's the 'old and bad' UI. Notice what is, again, directly to the right from my 'current' running app (Black flag if that wasn't obvious)

EDIT: On second thought, you're right that the new UI didn't have the button right there for about...6 months. It was down with the pins. Which was still only one button press away (RT), but is slightly less intuitive. But before AND after that period it was always 'right'.

I love my Xbox one and it's my console of choice at the moment even though it's less powerful than the PS4. The UI isn't the greatest but I like it.

I'm blown away that you were blow away op. I love the games and controller but that UI is terrible, slow, unintuitive and ugly .

Not really a fan of either UI on the Xbone or PS4, but lately I'd give the edge for the PS4 just because it has custom game folders now, and they're quicker to get to than scrolling all the way down the Xbone for your pinned apps.

I still think Steam Big Picture Mode is a better UI on a gamepad. It's just faster to navigate to basic social features, your most recent game is directly below the library tab, and it lets you know what games were recently update to see if there is a reason to go back. Everything in big boxes, and your library doesn't just have one row or column. That said, I'll still prefer just having the vanilla Steam UI with a list broken into my own custom categories, and clicking on a game has a bunch of info or I can just double click to launch.

The Xbox has some major UI issues related to performance. I've had an Xbox One for a couple of years and while I love the console, the performance of the UI frustrates me. It's still my primary console (largely because more of my friends are on the Xbox One), but the UI issues are a pain.

But, like the OP said, there's a few things that Microsoft consistently nails out of the park with their consoles, and it's the friends experience. Creating a party and launching a game together is, basically, flawless. But there are some other issues, like navigating unless you're very accustomed to the UI can be a measure of patience. I'm used to jumping pages with LB/RB, but navigating the blocks/tiles is awkward with a controller. Other quick shortcuts like hitting RT to get to your tiles/games/pins, is convenient, but I'd wager somewhere south of 5% of people actually know how to do that, and it's not intuitive.

For usability from a microsoft console, they really haven't improved the Xbox 360 blades interface w/ quick menu using the Xbox button. now, that UI is obviously super dated visually... A perfect candidate for 2004-era design language and style. But for packing a lto of data onto the screen, it was very useful from a user's perspective. They took a huge step back with the "NEw Xbox Experience," which was Microsoft's worst UI... One of the poorest designs for a console dashboard ever from a user's perspective.

The UI? Is this a joke? The 360 had a better UI.

Honestly i'm the complete opposite. The XB1 feels clunky to me in every way imaginable and slow. From navigating the UI to Installing games, slow as hell.

The shoulder buttons are clicky on the OG pad, it's horrible. The only good thing about my xbox is EA access.

UI is worse, slower, confusing

Apps are clunky (Netflix issues since launch)

Some features outright broken (like snap)

Games run with less performance

Controller is a matter of preference really

I love my Xbone for the exvlusives, but Not sure about the reasons you posted op. Definitely not blown away in comparison lol.

Press RT.

I was actually blown away by how clunky, unintuitive, and just downright slow the Xbox One's UI is. Personally, I also prefer the Dualshock 4, but I can understand how you'd like the Xbox One controller more. The UI thing though, I just don't get that.

I definitely prefer the Xbox One's UI over PS4's, even if the XB has some performance issues at time. At least in my mind, it seems like PS has been using the same "design" since.. what, the PS3? Aesthetically, I just prefer the cleaner look of the XB UI, among other things. I wouldn't necessarily say that the differences between the two are enough to warrant having been "blown away", but everyone has their own preference.

PS4 UI is faster, but Xbox is better all around I think. You can tell Microsoft is an OS company and Sony makes TVs.

Some thing really are annoying about the PS4 UI, in particular, you can't easily clear all upload notifications, and you can clear normal notifications, like friend requests.

Is there some secret way I don't know about to do either of those things?

Gotta say I disagree except for the controller. I like both the DS 4 and xbox one controller for different reasons. Both are good controllers overall.

I prefer my PS4 over my Xbox One S. Only had my XBONE S for about two or three weeks. Definitely only have it for a few games. If these games were on the PS4 then I would never get one. I love the 360 over the PS3 last gen and the PS2 and GCN over the Xbox gen before that. Not sure why MS couldn't take what worked last generation and continue to improve that. Oh wait, I know. They are trying to make all windows products tie together.

To each their own . I don't share your opinion anyway , you might be blow away by the way friends and chat options are displayed on XB1 , except party chat is still buggy ...

I thought you meant this in a negative way, going by the title, because the Xbone OS and UI seems to be far less liked than PS4's; the latter is just so much faster and simpler.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions but me and my brother's experience of Xbox one S was somewhat less positive than op's. Both of us took advantage of the recent deals on the console, having already bought ps4 years ago. We were expecting to find a better U.I and general OS experience than the ps4. Was really surprising then that both of us feel the ps4 (with the latest firmware update) is easily superior.

What about it is complicated? What do you have trouble doing/finding?

lol ... it continues.

You will probably not get an answer because everyone who says its complicated probably tried it out for 2 seconds and told himself "No, this is different to PS4 ... it must be complicated"

PS4 is my preffered console choice, but what the XB1 has going for it is bandwidth. All my streaming always comes out in perfect HD and downloads are much, much faster vs. PSN incredibly slow internet speeds.

Xb1's biggest failure however, is the immediacy of playing the game I just bought. On PS4 it takes minutes to start a single player game while the update downloads in the background. I can't play online without the update, but that's okay.

XB1 however, you put in the disk and it feels like it's downloading both the entire game and the update online and can take HOURS.

XB1 definitely needs better UI with it's store (360 section please), but I like being able to pin my favorite games to the home screen.
