Coming from the PS4, I am blown away by the Xbox One.

To the op: buy Sunset Overdrive! Best console exclusive and an amazing game that routinely gets ignored.

I prefer the PS4 OS. It is much faster and allow good level of customisation now that it features folders, also I don't know about you guys but I don't spend m'y console time playing with the UI.
It's all about the games and PS4 plays them better 90% of the time.

How could anyone be cool with ads everywhere after paying a premium to use their online services?

I guess this is why I have not watched TV in the past decade either...
How can people be cool with constant network outages and customer support blacklisting everywhere after paying a premium to use their online service?

I subscribe to both services.

Because it's just there on the right hand side not bothering me?

Banner ads on gaf don't bother me either

It's not like on TV where ads cut through the program

I have destiny running in background and am watching vudu. Despite this, I am not seeing 5 second lag. I'm not even seeing a one second lag save for loading after I snap PBS kids

Sorry for vertical recording.
Holy... that's beautiful.
Mines usually quickish with some slowdowns sometimes, but yours is pretty much instant.

I'm surprised there's this much of a disparity between owners. Has anyone looked into this in depth?

My main gripe with the XB1's interface is that if you don't set your pins for games.... you sometimes have to wonder how the f to get to the game to launch it. it took me like a minute to realize where i needed to go and right now, i can't even tell you how to find it off the top of my head....

also, it's so SLOW. i wonder if this is because the CPU is trash (that goes to xbone and ps4 btw), but the OS just hangs sometimes.

Also, it has a tendency to crash more when you have it on instant on... it needs a full restart every now and then to clear it up.

Is there an option to automatically pin newly installed games? I'd like that - easy to unpin if I change my mind

As someone that owns both, I cannot stand the XB1 UI. It's a complete mess, and riddled with ads. Sharing content to SNS is also a total nightmare.

Same here op. Blown away by the fucking annoying clicking noise. And blown away by the fact fucking tesco told me to fuck off and contact Microsoft. After the 360 troubles with rrod I skipped the xb1 but thought hey what the hell, no such problems now, I'll pick up the xb1 s. What a fucking mistake. NEVER again.

I went in the opposite direction from the OP. Bought an X1 on day one then bought a PS4 when the UC Collection came out. I wasn't at all impressed, platting Valkyria Chronicles is probably the most fun I've had with it. It doesn't really get used, my X1 is on practically every day.

Thank you for this video...lol

Go to 11 seconds, pause the video, show it to someone who hasnt used an XBO and ask them where the cursor is.....

Is it to the left or in that lil strip to the right? Or is it up top where that pink circle is? You cant really tell whats in the foreground, the left area or the strip.

Thank you for proving my point. But yes...we are trolling. You got us.....we're insane....

Like I said earlier.....a screen similar to that screenshot. Because that screenshot is...somewhat obvious. Somewhat.

And then do the same for any other UI in existence? The difference between trying to pause a video and asking someone unfamiiliar with the screen in front of them to point something out, is that it's not realistic. You're not being asked to do that by the system ever. It's at no point unapparent where your cursor is, and if somehow it was you'd simply press a direction and go 'oh' (same as any other interface).

There is literally one thing that is highlighted differently.

Many people prefer their xbox experience because they don't experience the lag your nagging about.

Have you read through this thread? A ton of people experience it. I also first experienced it on my work Xbox One and then my friends Xbox One, both of them had the lag. When I got mine it had been a long time since I touched either of those and the lag was even worse than I remembered.

My facebook group chat confirmed that, yup, it's just the way the Xbox One Dashboard is. Even my friend that almost exclusive plays Xbox One for gaming agrees that the issue is annoying.

Seriously, plug in your controller into your Xbox One and run a game. Compare how quickly the thumbstick inputs register in-game vs in the menus outside of the game. If your only other gaming console is 360 I can see you not noticing because the 360 got SUPER laggy by the ends of it's life.

Xbox 360 had a better UI than both the Xbox One and the PS4. That thing was perfectly laid out and super quick, despite having like 1/16th the total RAM.

Inviting somebody to a party or a game on the new consoles takes like two to three more unnecessary steps than it did 10 years ago. How can that happen?!

I wish you could accept that some people legitimately do get confused by the UI. I pretty much ONLY load discs from the Xbox One for this very reason. It's the only piece of technology that makes me feel old. Since the UI is laggy and inconsistent on how quickly it registers I'm never sure if my inputs are accepted and since the menu can be confusing on whether I'm on the top or to the left or what's highlighted, in due to all the visual noise. It's an obnoxious combination of issues. The UI would be gross, but perfectly serviceable if the lag wasn't there and I could probably adjust to it very quickly. However since the lag is there it makes adjusting to it difficult because sometimes you expect to be in the "next menu," but your input still hasn't registered so the visuals show that you're in the previous menu so you push the previous input again and now when it does register it, it registers the input twice and now I'm in a menu I haven't seen before, etc. Most of my friends just use voice commands, but even those aren't super consistent and I get too offended to bother so I just stick to the discs and play everything on PS4.

Internet speed, or ping at least from their servers matters the most.

Despite in Australia, our dashboards connect to the Azure server in fuckign SINGAPORE for our dashboards, which means I never get less than 200ms ping for my dash, hence, its sluggish as fuck.

Well, that explains my issues then!! So much for Tier 1!
Thanks for the info though.

Pausing the video or pausing using the UI. Same thing.

Of course using the controller could tell you where you are. But if I think I'm in the strip but I'm to the left like in your clip, what's happens? I might try navigating down and nothing happens, then I'm wondering what's wrong.

The UI isn't perfect, it has issues. Those of us that actually used it and don't like it or got confused have legitimate beefs.

For what I bolded, didnt I say that in an earlier post? Regardless, we talking about the XBO UI right now. Thats what was in the OP.

Funnily enough tho, I had no navigation issues with the PS4. Or not as bad as with the XBO.

Exactly.

I feel it's opposite for me, from what the OP posted.
I have a Xbone One and a PS4. Xbox's UI is sluggish and clunky.

I prefer the Ps4's UI.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else who finds the XB1 UI sluggish. I don't think the PS4 UI is particularly great either, but it's at least faster than the XB1's. I prefer the 360's UI over both of theirs.

Sorry for vertical recording.

I envy you. I'd kill for my Xbox to be that responsive.

You must like close to the Live server.

I enjoy the xbox one more than the ps4 and have a lot more fun with my xbox than I ever had with my ps4. That said, the UI is not great. I don't personally think either console has a good UI.

What the fuck, that shit's as snappy as I've ever seen. What's your ping when you do the network test? Because that ping is done to the nearest Azure server.
Mine for example is 77ms from Ontario Canada and I assume the nearest Azure centre is in Redmond on the opposite coast, the dashboard isn't too sluggish I'd say but it's not as fast as yours.
If the speed of the dash is tied to your proximity to Azure servers, they have royally fucked up. Holy fucking hell. They gotta make it less "live" and less reliant on Azure for fucks sake.

Have both and really do not like the PS4 UI at all. Other than Xbox being slower, for me it's much easier to find what I want on the Xbox.I use the kinect alot though as well,so most everything I do is voice commands .

I like my Xbox. That said, here's a story.

Last night I was playing BF1 on my Xbox, thanks to EA Access. That's an awesome feature the PS4 doesn't have. Anyway, I did something cool in the game (dropped a grenade perfectly at a guys foot as he ran over it, cartwheeling him into the air and getting me a kill) and wanted to share it.

Making video clips and sharing them on PS4 is really easy. This was the first time I tried to do it on Xbox. I messed around with the UI for 5 full minutes before giving up. Is it always recording like PS4? It it easy to edit like PS4? I'll never know because I never was even able to figure it out. The UI is slow and confusing.
"Hey Cortana, Record that!" And you've just shared a clip.
Then again you may not have Kinect and if that's the case I'm not sure how you do it because using the Kinect to record clips is just natural to me.

What impresses me most? The attention to detail. It's quite apparent from the moment you boot the console up that the UI was designed, and refined, for gamers in mind. For instance, the option to view the bandwidth usage of your console and be able to see a history of that usage hour-by-hour. How many times have you felt a download was taking longer than usual? Whilst the PS4 shows you a progress bar of how much data has been downloaded thus far, the Xbox One allows you to monitor the actual speed (Mbits per second).

Friends & Parties

With the PS4, you go through at least 3 different inputs (Home, Up, Find Party Icon, Create Party etc) just to create a party session. It's fine as it is, I was happy with it. But then I experienced something different with Microsoft's console. Double-tap the Home button, you have your friends list snap to your screen . As you highlight a friend, the party icon prompt appears and you need only press X to start a session with that person.

Store and Friend Activity

Although a marked improvement over the years, Sony's integration of their store is abysmal as many of you know. Their Friend Activity wall is an eye-sore of a jigsaw puzzle mixed in with ads. The Xbox One allows you to scroll through all of this pretty smoothly, and again, something that is consistent, the UI is clean and organised. The eye icons are not an eye-sore and 'liking' or commenting is actually pretty simple to do. This leads to a greater level of engagement within the community.

The Store is just there - it's not an app you have to open.

The controller

This is it. This is what I really want to talk about. The controllers of both consoles - in my opinion - epitomise the difference of perspective when it comes to designing games consoles. Whilst Mark Cerny is a godsend when it comes to introducing/explaining the hardware of Sony's machine, Microsoft made just as much a fuss in drooling over their new controller.

The grips on the side of the controller as well on the new, smaller thumb sticks give it the impression of being a better made device than Sony's offering. Whilst I - like many others - found the rubber peeling off the DS4 sticks frustrating, the One's controller made me smile as I felt the triggers vibrate. Seriously, the triggers vibrate. And upon notifications, you feel another vibration from...somewhere. I haven't pinned it down yet but it's really subtle.

The PS4 does a lot of things well. I still have mine. But wow, this Xbox One console feels like another generation ahead of Sony when it comes to it's UI.
By the way agreed with everything you said here; the UI to me for the PS4 is bland and boring and to be honest to me I found it's UI to be disorganized and pointless....also you make a good point about the store being readily accessible on the One. Also why do I get the feeling that people complaining about the X1 UI probably aren't taking enough time to learn it. Once you do it's pretty easy..... and to me what seals the deal for me are the use of PINS on the X1 UI. As far as download speeds go I've found the speed on my One equal to my PS4....but that's my personal experience.
As far as the controllers the Xbox One controller is hands down the very best; the ds4 is an improvement over the ds3 controller but it's still at the bottom behind the 360.

If someone who's taken the time to learn it can't figure it out without a Kinect, then that tells you something. I love the aesthetics, but it isn't intuitive at all in regards to many functions. I keep my Kinect for the Disney Fantasia still (wonderful game).

That store is awful too, I'll never be convinced otherwise on that. I always get frustrated and head to the site.

Really? The ui is fucking garbage, super slow and clunky. Hard as hell to find anything, the one is a huge step backwards from the 360. I hope the Scorpio at least stops the wait between apps and games taking forever.

I've just bought an Xbone S last week after owning a PS4 for a couple of years. I don't find the UI particularly user-friendly, and it's very laggy. Finding stuff seems to be a pain compared to on my 360.

I find the share button on PS4 much more intuitive - sometimes double tapping the Xbox home button doesn't register, and I'm not sure if it freezes the current game as on the PS4?

The things that make the X1 UI better than the PS4 are the ability to do more than one thing, snapping apps, using voice commands to launch them, a better store and search features, abilty to add your own background and the quick friendlist & party chat accessibility. I've always liked the X1's UI better than the PS4 UI. I'm glad to see the improvements made to both! The added feature of folders to the PS4 is a great addition as well as finally having background music options on the X1 (still need a proper media player to play music vlc needs an update).

What people find hard to find? I got used quickly when the preview released.

I understand settings and manage your captures is not clear enough but friends, friend's profile, achievements, party, messages, notifications and store are pretty clear to me.

Seriously. Nintendo doesn't get enough credit for their UI design. On the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, it's clean and simple.

But the actual UI functionality is legitimate trash. Settings is always in another separate channel, you can't check downloads without accessing another channel, it takes forever to access or load anything...

Aesthetically, yes, it's very nice. But it's far from effective.
