Just had had a thought

2 big console games were released on the NVIDIA Shield TV which the NS uses similar hardware to. Metal Gear Rising and Borderlands 2. These games can be easy ports with little work needed.

Finally the whole android library can easily ported as Pixel C tablet which has the same X1 architecture as NS runs android. So maybe we would get a ton of ports like Hearthstone, GTA Vice City and etc. I'm sure Android has some decent games underneath alot alot of the garbage that can get ported

We don't know if Switch runs Android.

Lol they aren't throwing smash brothers and Mario kart at launch

They will put either one a month after lunch and splatoon in June then Mario kart or smash in September for its anniversary followed by the Mario game at the end of November

To throw all your ports at launch would cause mass "where are the games" posts

I'd honestly do nothing but Zelda for the first month
Mario kart 8 switch at the end of April
Splatoon in June
mario maker in August
Smash in September
In a way, it would kind of make sense to put Smash at launch since it's kinda Nintendo's biggest Amiibo-seller right now (especially if there's new characters coming). Hell, Nintendo already has 3 Smash 4 Amiibos on stand-by for the Switch port.

If the rumors are true about the Switch having 4GB of RAM, could this deficiency be offset in anyway by the use of cartridges? Since they are using carts that have much faster read speeds I was wondering if that would limit the need to load as much onto the RAM during gameplay.

No

SD Card speeds are much slower than RAM

It's not impossible, but it's unlikely assuming BOTW is a launch title. It'd make more sense to hold off on Mario til closer to the holidays.
Don't really think it will matter.

Twilight Princess launched with the Wii and sold over 10 million (November release I know but still the highest selling Zelda of all time).

I genuinely think the attachment rate will be astonishingly high if they release Zelda on day one. Like I could easily see an 80 or 90 percent attach rate. Everyone who buys the console will want that one killer app and Zelda is a killer app. After the Wii U first year draught surely Nintendo will want to be hot out of the gate and give people a reason to get up and buy this thing on day one.

I'm still just delighted that Game Freak aren't going to be limited to comically underpowered hardware (no offence to the GB/DS/3DS family).

Can't wait to see if they scrap the 2D/3D top down view and just go for a 3D third person game like Pokémon XD.

And you'll be able to play it on your TV. With a pro controller. This is seriously my wet dream.

Like imagine a 3D Cerulean cave, on a 3D island, with a full model 3D Mewtwo at the end just waiting for you and you know he is going to fuck shit up and as you walk towards him that legendary music starts getting louder and louder and then a fucking 3D Zubat flies down from the ceiling and attacks you and as you look up at the ceiling you see another 18 3D Zubats. Please Game Freak just knock it out.
You're going to be super mad when it turns out they haven't been held back, but that they don't see the need to make a $100 million dollar game.

What? You don't think having more hardware power would have resulted in better looking Pokémon games? Who said anything about spending $100m? The Witcher 3 only cost $80m for goodness sake and there are hundreds of 3D games that cost a fraction of that to make.

Where did I say anything about it being bad to have Zelda as a launch title?...

I said it's unlikely Mario will be a launch title because BOTW already seems to be, so it'd make sense to hold off on Mario til closer to the holidays...

I never said anything about a Mario game.

If Gamefreak are cheap then the worse case scenario is the game would look like one of those Nanci Takes of games such as Xillia and Beseria I think I got the names right.

I never said anything about a Mario game.

The post I was quoting did, though, before you quoted me... I was answering a question... Like, I have no idea what you're going on about lol.

Someone asked if we'd see 3D Mario at launch, I said we probably won't because we already seem to have BOTW... Then you went off on some weird tangent like I'd said something entirely different.

So realistically how powerful are we expecting this machine to be? compared to the X1?
Xbox One or Tegra X1? If you mean the latter, I do expect the custom Tegra chip in the Switch to be better than the X1. That said....
  • Best-Case Scenario: Around Xbox One levels
  • Worst-Case Scenario: 2x the Wii U's power
  • Likely Scenario: Somewhere between the two scenarios above

I think there has to be at least one new and exclusive first party title at launch. Zelda and the proposed (if indeed they are) ports are great for those who've skipped a generation of Nintendo home consoles, but I think it looks quite poor at convincing Wii U owners to upgrade.

!!!

I mean it's pretty clear that the 3DS is not holding them back, just look at recent efforts from Capcom and Level-5.

3DS is capable of much more than the shit we see in Pokémon.

I hate when people blame the hardware instead of the developer, ugh.

If Game Freaks struggle to make competent looking games on the 3DS, imagine on Switch. They are going to get destroyed by the competition. Y'all best be prepared.

Sorry if this has been discussed but did anyone catch a headphone jack on the pro controller? Really hope they put one in...
I've rewatched the trailer over and over again for this and can only find a, what seems, Mini USB port for charging and the four light indicator at the bottom. Doesn't seem there's a headphone jack on it sadly (and weirdly).

So when's the investor's meeting again? Are we expecting some delicious tidbits then?

I have no idea what any of that means, but, hey, I'm just a kid.

Here is a list of some notable Shield TV games as well as Android TV supported games

Metal Gear Rising
Portal
Half Life 2
Resident Evil 5
Never Alone
The Wolf Among Us
Hotline Miami 1 and 2
Geometry Wars 3
Trine 2
The Talos Principle
Contrast
Machinarium
Stealth 2
Super Meat Boy
Valiant Hearts
Octodad
Borderland 2 and Presequel
Doom 3
Oddworld Munch and Strangers
Ys Chronicles II
Tomb Raider 1 and 2
Final Fantasy III to IX
Mine Craft
Knights of the old Republic
Tales from Borderlands
GTA Chinatown Wars and San Andreas
Souls Calibur

There are many more games I've missed out. Also let's not forget all the non android TV games games and regular android games that can easily he adjusted to work with TV play. What I'm getting at is NS can easily get ports with little effort as all games already work with a similar architecture which is the X1 which is in the NVIDIA Shield TV as well as Pixel C Tablet. Also the K1 architecture is also similar which is in the Shield tablet.

Laura reported the Joy-Con may have an IR pointer.
I think it would be smart to include an IR sensor on the Switch and an IR pointer on the joy cons to replicate some touchscreen functionality if they are going to mandate all games be playable on TV mode.
An IR sensor also just helps with keeping the motion controls centered.
Mochi is great, but I do recall him having some translation issues since english isn't his first language.

No but mistranslated it to English might. He does have some trouble sometimes.
Then he should make sure he gets it right in the position that he holds-with people turning to him for news. Any few words wrong can change the whole meaning of a sentence.

Oh, interesting... but i don't see where they'd put that, with both shoulder buttons/triggers on top of the JC. Was it also rumored to have motion sensing as well?

It's on the bottom...which is weird. And yes, rumor is motion control too

It's on the bottom but you turn the JoyCon R upside down. In other words, the stick is now directly under your thumb.

I mean he IS the only one that reported on the whole "No more news before 2017" thing.

That's kind of suspicious in itself.

Though so many websites reported on his tweet after that I would have expected Nintendo to say something.
