I dont know much about OSes but Nintendo can't afford to allocate 3gb to the OS like PS4 and Xbox one does(or have they decreased it by now?) If it has 6gb total I predict 1gb will be reserved for OS, which will put it on par with PS4, One for ram for games.
I dont know what takes up so much in those OSes, but Nintendo can't afford the ram heavy functionality that these consoles has.
I mean, it was the entire point of the reveal video.
This Nintendo we're talking about. After the Wii U, almost nothing would surprise me.Bold speculation there, Laura. You mean the entire thing the marketing was hinged upon is actually sold as a single unit? Shocker.

Imo it would make more sense to sell the dock separately than the main unit. They could sell it for cheap, and then people can have a dock hooked up to every tv in the household so they can move around easily.
And... the name.

No thread for the Q2 earnings release? It's happening later today.

It would be the cheapest subscription of the three!$50 sub
really now
I'm going to bet you're one of the people who complained about the lack of information.Bold speculation there, Laura. You mean the entire thing the marketing was hinged upon is actually sold as a single unit? Shocker.
Guys to be fair, lots of ppl have been actively hoping for a dockless SKU, despite how unlikely, so some clarification on that isn't unwarranted.
I'm going to bet you're one of the people who complained about the lack of information.
Pokémon Sun/Moon will probably the best selling game of this holiday season.
My only concern right now is only in how the OS is going to be in this thing. Hope it's NOTHING NOTHING like the one on Wii U. Sure, Wii U's OS it's responsive and gets the job done but it simply looks old fashioned af. With those huge bobbly buttons all over with tons of limitations. I hope those rumors about Nintendo teaming up with Android for the OS become true or something, because honestly, that's the only way I could see Nintendo pulling a modern OS on Switch.

To me the more interesting part is that you can't plug the system directly into a TV. This would be a cool feature, since any where you bring the system is likely to have a tv and extra hdmi cable.
Does it mean it is technically impossible, because the dock does something to help the system output to the tv? If not, maybe a 3rd party will create an hdmi cable for the switch.
Oh wait, this was the original Nvidia rumor? I had no idea because the rumors in the past 6 or 7 months all seem like a blur. But if it's true and that article was the original Nvidia rumor, that sounds like it may say good things about price.I find it interesting that so many people brush off this rumor even though it was in the exact same article breaking the news that Nvidia was providing the chips for the NX.
This, combined with the multiple rumors over the past year (most recently MCV) about how Nintendo wanted to go with an extremely low price, makes me think it won't be anywhere over $249.

That's a common misunderstanding about rechargeable batteries. Devices that stay in a charging dock do not actually lose battery capacity over time.
Batteries only lose capacity from enduring thousands of charge cycles. When docked items are fully charged, the charging device powers the unit directly and does not touch the battery - it stays fully charged from the initial charge cycle.
In other words: the length of time that a battery is charged does NOT affect the battery. Rather, a battery's capacity decreases after being recharged thousands of times. Nevertheless, a deep discharge stresses the battery more than a partial discharge. It is therefore better not to discharge the battery fully but charge it more often.

Who says they'd take a loss at $199? If the Nvidia deal really is as good as rumored, they might be able to turn a small profit or break even at $199.
$225 might also be possible. $250 is the highest I think it should be, based on what we know is included. I think it should be priced as close to cost as possible for the best mainstream success.
Just because they ditch the Wii U/3DS OS doesn't mean they can't come up with yet another bloated and slow POSI believe Nintendo's gonna drop the OS they used for the Wii U that was similar to 3DS.
There's gonna be something completely different on the switch.
To be honest, Wii U already has 1GB reserved exclusively for the OS and we all know how bad it is.I dont know much about OSes but Nintendo can't afford to allocate 3gb to the OS like PS4 and Xbox one does(or have they decreased it by now?) HOLDONAMINUTE the thing Nintendo showed in the very first seconds of the Switch reveal will be packaged-in by default? SHOCKER!
Some people on here sure thought otherwise for some reason lol.
Anyone made this joke yet?
That was kind of click bait today. Hopefully information in the future won't be presented like that.
She's not Nintendo's witch, she's Platinum Games' witch.
Considering that Emily also said this could be "pricey" and then speculated a price of $249 those terms are kinda meaningless.
Probably she's not a supply chain project manager and has no idea of the costing's for these sorts of things. So she's making that up as she's going along. The devs she's talking to probably don't have a clue either. Besides the most generic of estimates. All this obviously also ignores how much if any profit Nintendo wants to make on this.
I hope they do put the Joycon grip in the SKU. It provides an (almost) true gamepad to go along with TV mode. Without it it's not really an 'all in one' unit IMO. I know you can use the Joycons alone, but they might be a bit naff in some cases.
Not that it particularly matters to me as I will be getting a pro pad, but still it would be a bit skimpy if not.
Platinum does not own any of the IPs they have worked on.She's not Nintendo's witch, she's Platinum Games' witch.
We don't know the Nvidia deal details so speculation makes no sense anyway. It's still fun though.
It needs to be included. Why include the dock if you can't play Switch while docked.
I'm pretty damn sure you don't need the Joy-Con grip to play while docked.
This is what she was saying was her news today? I mean anybody could've told you this with Nintendos message.
What speed update? </sarcasm>
The Wii U OS is STILL dogshit slow at the end of the day. Trying to simply boot a game (physical or digital) just sort of turns me off of the entire system due to the load times.
Sega's witch actually.Anyone made this joke yet?
It's the same thing, just with your hands not tethered to each other.I can't imagine using both Joy-Con like a WiiMote & Nunchuk being the default control method. That would be ludicrous.
People thought there's be a dockless sku after that reveal trailer and Nintendo marketing it as a home console first?
I'm not shocked. It's the fact that I'm not shocked that depresses me.
