Multiple Texas counties reported record-breaking turnout figures on the first day of early voting Monday, according to news outlets across the Lone Star State.

On Monday, The Texas Tribune reported that voters were seeing unusually long lines for early voting. Amanda Stephens of Corpus Christi said she was told the wait to vote was two and a half hours. Others said on Twitter that they were able to vote quickly.

2 hours to vote is not acceptable but we all know why that is. Because its Texas I have to think its Trump supporters buzzing to protect the hive but typically early voting benefits Democrats. Not to mention that conventional election wisdom has been turned on its ear this year with Hillary even or up on Trump in states that haven't voted Democratic in decades.

It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out and if it affects down ballot races.

Pretty sure Dallas county is blue, and that had the biggest increase so that is really promising.

It is definitely voters coming out against Trump. Texas has been polling very well for Clinton compared to previous presidential campaigns. In the event of further collapse from Trump there is an outside shot at Hill taking it.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't work against polling data. There was a YouGov poll with Trump only +3 this weekend. That is awful for Republicans.

I think Romney beat Obama by 12 in 2012.

So far I think it seems to be a mix of more Trump voters based on the photos on twitter and whatnot with a lot of dems too though. Probably worried and want to make sure he is in the lead early and now they can probably proselytize Trump to everyone else now that their voting is done. It is why you should not be complacent this election if you wanr Hillary to win. Republican turnout has been at an all time high the last year including the primaries and caucuses.

Take it for what it's worth. Purely anecdotal as I'm not running a poll or anything. But when all I see are Trump voters all day long it really makes me pessimistic about my state and it's voters.

It is not all Trump. Visit Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Laredo, etc and it is not all Trump not even close. Yeah Texas is a red state but to act like Trump signs dominate the landscape is ridiculous.

I agree. If anything I think the Trump supporters are not hidden they are the most vocal and abrasive people. I think the minorities and women vote for Clinton are perhaps scared to being intimidated and therefore the "enthusiasm" for Clinton is deemed low but when it comes to voting I think Clinton is going to surprise to the upside.

I live in Bexar county (San Antonio) and it's pretty anti-trump here. This makes sense though because if I remember correctly, all the major cities in Texas had majority democratic vote last presidential election. What makes the state so red is all the areas in between.

Turnout has definitely increased. I'm hearing of lines at the early voting sites and a lot of people saying they have never seen that before. The lines are not terribly long but just the fact you have to wait to vote early says a lot.

It may do a California sometime in the future, but that is not going to happen this year. I think a lot of people are putting too much hope into hints of a blue Texas, but I don't see it happening.
