They had to adjust their financial forecast due to the strengthening yen. (Which is affecting foreign currency exchanges)

This is going to decrease their net sales and operating income for the fiscal year.

This was the saddest part:

Everything down tremendously badly. Also, I can't believe they are still planning to release that awful looking tech demo from Miyamoto with Project Robot.

I am not sure how people can justify the radio silence on the NX not to impact sales of Wii U and 3DS. The latter will be kept alive by whatever software it is released and the numbers are still very low as they are for an entire quarter... for the former... about 100K sales a month worldwide and a console already in the public opinions as a console that is not even manufactured anymore and with a successor already in sight.

They have no intention of releasing it, haha. I've not looked but I assume devilish brain training is still listed for Europe too, which also is never happening.

If you don't offer anything to buy sales will go down. They are willing to take those hits for Switch momentum it seems.

Yeah, the Wii U is so dead at this point that using it to try to justify no NS news is laughable. Plus, they already said they only planned to ship less than a million to cover demand for the entire year...

No one's using the Wii U to justify their silence till next year, its mostly the focus on the 3DS titles and the NES Mini.

Those seem only slightly less absurd IMO, but we'll see how it plays out.

Edit: Plus, just announcing the Switch is already doing "damage" to 3DS sales, as many people will see a new system coming out and decide to just wait.

Wonder if Amiibo will resurge with new figures or if the craze is over. The numbers for the last six months are pretty negligible, and literally every Amiibo is available to buy on store shelves here. What a difference a year makes.

Also they've cut operating income targets for the year. Investors wont be happy.

So, we are using a system which is selling about 500K units a month worldwide, will sell on Christmas sales regardless of what you say about NX really, and what else exactly then?

We can say that Nintendo will weather it, that it is not extremely damaging, etc... etc... whatever we want really, but pretending it is a good move with clear justifications? Nah...

This may possibly be mitigated by positioning the 3DS as the perfect budget handheld for kids. At least in Japan this is being marketed that way.

Based on what we know about Japanese sales, it seems that Pokemon has actually grown in the West while declining in Japan.

It's only a slight decline. IIRC, XY is about on par with BW over there.

This gen had them have to take on Yo-kai Watch too, which dented things a little there, but Yo-kai is over now, and is now joining the pantheon of Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter: Games that sell well but aren't threatening Pokémon.

What are the HW units in the thread title referring to?

All I see on the consolidated forecast is that 2.71 Million 3DS Hardware units was shipped for the quarter and 560,000 Wii U Hardware units were shipped for the quarter.

Nope, its not declining in the japan. Pokemon is still extremely popular there.

4.5m for XY and over 3 million for ORAS in japan alone.

I do not think that anything about their current marketing for NX screams either kids or budget handheld, quite the opposite really.
