Nintendo Q2 FY2016 Earnings Release (0.34M Wii U HW, 1.7M 3DS HW)

What are the HW units in the thread title referring to?

All I see on the consolidated forecast is that 2.71 Million 3DS Hardware units was shipped for the quarter and 560,000 Wii U Hardware units were shipped for the quarter.

Subtracted the numbers from last quarter to get the numbers in the thread title.

To put things into perspective, the 3DS is about to reach the NES/Famicom in all-times sales (61.57 vs 61.91 million).

Unless the new NES mini will count in total sales, then I doubt it could reach it.

BW sold about 5.5 million there, while XY was around 4.5 million at the beginning of 2015. DP sold about 5.8 million.

Ah.

Well let's not forget that the entire Japanese gaming landscape is in the shitter. That also factors into things.

Wonder if Amiibo will resurge with new figures or if the craze is over. The numbers for the last six months are pretty negligible, and literally every Amiibo is available to buy on store shelves here. What a difference a year makes.

Also they've cut operating income targets for the year. Investors wont be happy.

Difference is that there haven't really been any new ones the last 6 months and that obviously stunts sales considerably.

This is actually big. XY aren't the worst selling generation now
What's interesting to me is how they sold more than Mario compared to the DS where the difference was also very large in numbers, this time they are the best selling games of the system

The lack of sales numbers still for Fire Emblem Fates probably means it never hit a million. We never got numbers for it last quarter.

I said 3DS. I said they can market the 3DS as a perfect kid's first console so it will get sales despite the impending release of the Switch.

Exactly my point, Nintendo should go ahead and start talking about NX more in depth this year as it does not really cross the target audience of the 3DS now.

Project Giant Robot still being on the release schedule, amazing.

All I keep thinking is how great it's going to be when that release schedule box is going to be nothing but Switch games. I'm expecting that list to be long and glorious. At the moment it's rather depressing seeing the 3DS schedule domineering the pitiful Wii U list.

DS had a bigger install base. ORAS sold on bar and even better than Fire red & leaf green.

DS had a larger install base worldwide, not just Japan, so that alone doesn't explain it. That's why it's pretty remarkable that Pokemon has bucked the trend outside Japan in terms of growing its sales versus the previous generation.

Wait what? U mean, 3DS can't reach another 400k sales number there?O_O

First new Super Mario Bros Game in like what 15 years will do sales like that.

Pokemon GO didn't save Nintendo net income for the semester, it was baseball ! :)

However, due to the sale of part of our ownership in the company that manages the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team, we recorded gain on sales of investment securities totaling 62.7 billion yen as extraordinary income, meaning that profit attributable to owners of parent was 38.2 billion yen

The lack of sales numbers still for Fire Emblem Fates probably means it never hit a million. We never got numbers for it last quarter.

FE Fates released last fiscal year in JP and NA, and as of 3/31/16 was at 1.84M. 1.06M from NA alone.

That's for one month in case anyone was wondering.

That is going to be a very supply constrained launch: less than 700K consoles for each of the major three regions for the immediate launch period.

This makes me slightly worried about NX ease of manufacturing issues as the big cause behind the delay too. Two million consoles should not take more than three months to manufacture at this stage unless the design got finalised extremely late.

Ocarina of Time 3D is at 4.52 million. Phantom Hourglass is at 4.76 million. Ocarina will surpass PH, but Pokemon SM will kick it off the charts before it happens.

Also don't forget that the sales of XY listed don't factor in downloadable versions. I'm not saying that'll factor in for a million, but it'll factor in for a significant amount.

I'm withholding judgment for Sun and Moon. It's post-Pokemon Go and Yokai Watch seems to have collapsed.

nvm i'm dumb and misread

I'm withholding judgment for Sun and Moon. It's post-Pokemon Go and Yokai Watch seems to have collapsed.

I wonder what's up with Level-5. This is the second (maybe third?) time this happened exactly the same way. Inazuma Eleven was a huge success and then it died down hard

8 million Mario Kart 8 owners on a 13 million sold system is crazy.

I had always just assumed Mario Kart Wii was an aberration, but looking at the numbers for all of Nintendo's consoles, the Mario Kart series is almost always the second best-selling game on each platform it's released (true for SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and 3DS). On Wii U it's the best selling title, then on GBA and Nintendo DS it's 4th (behind Pokemon) and 3rd respectively.

I somehow didn't realize the Mario Kart franchise was that massive.

I mean, this sub-franchise is a more reliable seller than actual Mario games even, let alone Zelda, etc.

Yeah, but the Japanese gaming sales are massively in the shitter. An 80k opening is considered a good week now. It's hard to say what way it'll go.

That said, Sun & Moon is the closest thing we've had to a "reboot" since Gen 3, so who knows, that could lure people in too

No wonder they are starting a new gen already. Wii U it's been a medium fun ride but it's time. Get in the coffin.

No, I mean I expect the NES mini to sell millions, but I am not sure if that will count to the NES total or not.

By default it won't. It's part of an entirely new line of product.

It's like saying all of Sega's crappy licensed plug-n-plays added to the Master System' LTD.

Mario Kart DS onward has kind of been at the forefront of pushing their networking forward, with online play, sharing stuff, etc.

Another reminder of what a disaster the Wii U is. Will it even reach 14 million? Can't imagine it will do that well this holiday, so I guess it's all about what's left in stock now and how eager retailers are to get rid of it.

Nintendo are expecting to ship 2 million Switch consoles until March 31, meaning they're expecting a launch that is on par with the Wii U launch (it did 1 942 000 from launch until December 31 2012). It's good, I guess, given the fact that it launches in March and not November. Just hoping sales won't die like they did for Wii U.

Wait. Why must they combine the hardware there? It is not even the same hardware lol.

It doesn't really sell well already while there are already low budget SKUs.

People want the better version like N3DS XL though. And no one wanted the inferior one. So if they can cut the price for 3DS version, i can see it do better.

Amiibo declining?

Yes. But i am not that afraid for this one though. As there are simply very little title using Amiibo recently and of course lack of new Amiibo coming soon.
