Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

Our girl Emily Rogers claims that Retro isn't working on Metroid, or "Fucking Donkey Kong" for that matter.

Granted, she isn't always 100% correct (see the Female Link thing) but it's still something to consider.

I still think Retro or somebody is working on a Metroid game, if the Retro game is ready for 2017, the next Retro game is def in early stages already

Persistently calling it a home gaming system when in Japan it's gonna be anything but. Why not advertise is as a hybrid?

January 12 2017 might be the halfway point between now and Switch's release.

It's 78 days from now to Jan 12 2017 and 78 days after that is March 31st which is a Friday.

Well, it's going to be two months before it launches so they should have the full launch lineup, and probably others, playable by that point.

It's great that they're announcing so close to launch. They should have a concrete idea as to what will be there on launch day. No letdowns for something that we expected on launch not making it and hopefully no other promises they make during the presentation will be broken on launch day.

Only if this fails to sell well. I just don't see how Nintendo can continue to support two platforms and also add mobile to the mix....

Exactly. Don't buy into this 3rd pillar shit. They did the same thing with the DS until it took off. I fully expect the "Switch" to be the handheld going forward, and they release some kind of souped up Dock down the line to give people that "oof" of power they crave. But all in all im hyped and I think they are back.

Because they still got a portable coming.

Because the last thing you want after the Wii U is confusing marketing.

I don't see how advertising it as a hybrid is confusing nor how it negates 3DS's portability.

Calling it a home console causes more confusion because going by word alone, it implies you can only play at home, which is obviously not true, whereas Hybrid implies both home and portable.

Nintendo could recreate E3 2006 with this event. Zelda, 3D Mario, perhaps Retro's title + more? Lots of potential to capitalize on.

I'm feeling increasingly optimistic. I also appreciate the symbolism of doing this in Japan when everybody else has basically moved the center of gravity to the west. This is great for the sake of product differentiation.

Really looking forward to this console a more Travel ready modified Wii U. I love the design and what I have seen. This really is the best of both worlds.

I think it's because of pricing.

Saying it's a home gaming system and princing it similar to other home consoles paints the situation better than a expensive portable.

New year, new system, new Zelda... HYPE Levels rising... :)

At least I can manage that long wait with Pokémon Moon... XD...

Fuck that is a long time away from now. At least we know and won't have people tweeting out bullshit about a surprise conference happening tomorrow and then nothing.

So far away, but glad they announced a date to stop further speculation.

They have a portable system doing relatively well at this point which still has some unreleased games in development/yet to release, don't want attention in the portable space going away from that.

They also want to make sure they capture the attention of the home console base, so keep on reassuring them "this is a home gaming system first and foremost."

Near the end of next year or maybe early 2018 they'll unveil a "portable only" version of the Switch, that doesn't come with the dock, possibly even a variation that doesn't have detachable controllers (all the same games work on it), and then officially start advertising it as a hybrid system, and announce that all their internal development teams are now working only on Switch games rather than their focus being split between a dedicated console and dedicated portable system.

That's how I see it going at least.

good, I will have finished Picross 3d 2 just in time for that
obv not counting the one and a half fucking month for it to come out yet

They are cutting it kinda close, no? I mean its coming out in March. I fear its going to get delayed until 2017 holiday.

I understand your concern, but they further committed to the release month just last week, and plus Nintendo hasn't announced a release month for a new system and then delayed in the past 20 years, so hopefully that's exceptionally unlikely at this point.
