Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

I think it's because of pricing.

Saying it's a home gaming system and princing it similar to other home consoles paints the situation better than a expensive portable.

But if they are pushing it as a console, then they can't ignore those other consoles. All rumors suggest that this isn't as powerful as the Xbox One. So, pricing it the same as the PS4 and Xbox One is a dangerous move. Particularly because those consoles will certainly drop in price again sooner than the Switch will.

Saying it's a home gaming system and princing it similar to other home consoles paints the situation better than a expensive portable.

It could be, but more importantly it's also for the sheer fact that the Switch looks like a portable platform first and foremost. With Nintendo citing it a "home-console" in advertising they try to balance out that prejudice and make it clear this thing is as much a home-console as it looks to be a portable.

The timing makes sense considering the 'Wii U Presentation' and '3DS Conference' both happened roughly 2 months before launch -- and those confirmed exact day and price.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us a date for more info so soon. Hype train to take a break until then. Could be a 2 month marketing and hype blitz. Exciting times.

Thanks for giving us the date Nintendo, and thanks even more for having it be a Thursday, the one day of the week I'm guaranteed to have off work.

Hype.

They are cutting it kinda close, no? I mean its coming out in March. I fear its going to get delayed until 2017 holiday.

Don't Apple phones often get released a few weeks after announcement and reveal?

They've already revealed and announced it. This will be the full reveal. They have to show software to drive the need for the system. I think two months of hype is honestly enough especially given how they're making us salivate over more details already.

Also this. Really happy we don't have to speculate on another reveal date. Having a date set is really nice.

This is a more open event.
Damn Nintendo must have alot of confidence in the switch, can't wait :)

Oh man this is AWESOME! So kind of Nintendo to give us an actual date even it it's still 2 months away. I thought we would get blinded again with Switch's info till who knows when. So very lookin forward to that!

Took a fraction of the time to reveal that info than revealing the thing.
At least they aren't making us wait until the last minute in order to tell us when it'll happen.

About that *old* Retro Studios rumor: it came from a second hand source (game dev from Austin, TX). New IP could mean different Nintendo IP.

@ArcadeGirl64

Tropical Freeze is one of the Wii U's best games. But it would be weird if Retro made 3 DK games for 3 systems in a row. But whatever.

As for Metroid Prime 4...how many people from Prime trilogy games are still at Retro? 3 lead designers of DKCR aren't even there anymore...

They don't really have a choice.

Either this is a success or they're pulling out. They can only hold off on investors demanding them to go third party/mobile for so much longer.

Honestly, Switch seriously needs to be a success - Not just for Nintendo's sake IMO. The whole idea behind the Switch is some seriously HYPE stuff that I'd like to see be taken seriously by the whole industry.

Januray 12th - The Day that Snake comes back

The event will start off like this

Link riding Epona in a Breath of the wild location, we think its BotW trailer, but then Mario comes and Link is surprised. Both Link and Mario hears something, Link opens a chest, classic Zelda chime plays. But somebody is in there you see the "!" pop up and then hear the Metal Gear sound, and its Snake. Then Smash Challenger apporch thing pops up saying "Snake sneaks into battle" (The Field would be BotW stage btw)

New Smash trailer crowd goes wild, Smash Bros Definite edition for the Switch

LOL do it Nintendo take my idea

I'm so used to 24-48 hour turnarounds for Nintendo announcements so it feels kind of weird hearing about it so much in advance.

Anyway it better be good.

Hopefully they'll announce different color Nintendo Switch on that day....right?
There better be a Zelda edition available at launch. They missed out on releasing Breath of the Wild for the 30th anniversary but man. There needs to be a Zelda edition Switch.

Metal Gear isn't a dormant franchise.

Not the franchise in itself but for that specific company, on a home console. Last appearence on a Nintendo home console was on GC if I am remember right. That's if you consider full release and not Snake in Smash.

Well if it's a game then I would say Final Fantasy. I've already said I'm expecting FFVIIR on Switch

So we'll know nothing about its price, release date and friggin launch games until 2 months before it launches? This has to be unprecedented for any major console, right?

I hope nintendo knows what they're doing. I don't like this strategy. They should've made more noise before this holiday season so they're in the conversation hoping many light hold off for the Switch. Instead many more would be Switch users will buy another console this Christmas.

I wouldn't be surprised if those were "mobile" partners since we already saw the majority of console publishers.

I wonder if they referring to Mojang
Microsoft
. I'd very surprised to see Minecraft NOT hit the Switch even though both the fucking Wii U AND Vita got it.

I hope they show actual gameplay this time or preferably gameplay trailers.
