Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

Odd for them to announce it this far out. I guess they realized they cant just go completely silent for the rest of the year.

So we'll know nothing about its price, release date and friggin launch games until 2 months before it launches? This has to be unprecedented for any major console, right?

I hope nintendo knows what they're doing. I don't like this strategy. They should've made more noise before this holiday season so they're in the conversation hoping many light hold off for the Switch. Instead many more would be Switch users will buy another console this Christmas.

Not really. We usually don't get a specific release day until 3 months before launch, but we'll know the month usually (March). Same with price.

We also usually don't know many specific launch games until 3 months before launch. 3 months before launch, that's when consoles start clarifying whether previously shown games are launch or launch window or further.

Let the games begin. Everything is going to drop infowise in January, that's insane.

I think this clearly shows they wanted to come out with it this year, and something happened, maybe we'll never know, that made them push the date.

Cause this is such a weird reveal timeline.

Now it's bad when Nintendo makes an announcement a few months early?
I'm sorry, I will self-flagellate 64 times as penance for implying there's something humorous about our holy lord and savior Nintendo making an announcement nearly 3 months in advance for another announcement.

Not the franchise in itself but for that specific company, on a home console. Last appearence on a Nintendo home console was on GC if I am remember right. That's if you consider full release and not Snake in Smash.

If MGS is the series, I'd expect the MGS zombie game that everyone else is getting and maybe also some sort of MGS HD collection with a Twin Snakes HD, 2, 3, and Peace Walker. At most, a late MGS 5 port. (MGS 4 will never see a port, the game is held together with spit, duct tape, and prayers, and is deeply dependent on the PS3 from what I've heard)

The dream would be Metal Gear Rising 2, given that Nintendo is on good terms with both Konami and Platinum, but I very much doubt that'd actually happen.

So 2 months between announcement and release for launch titles... hopefully they are good ones. That's a crazy short period if they are AAA games.

Well, why not... But introducing the games just 2 months before the release, really? :/

I mean, I hope the system will be REALLY CHEAP because you don't convince people buy a product day one + 2/3 games, if it's 350+3x50=500€ (more if you add more games + accessories) just 2 months before the release... It's weird.

A lot of people need to save money for those purshase, especially teenagers/young adults (which are a HUGE part of the Nintendo audiance), so...

Or they except people to save money from Xmas? I don't think that gamers will skip FFXV, COD, BF, Watch Dogs 2, Last Guardian, Titanfall 2 and all the fall release just to keep money for the Switch... Maybe I'm wrong.

I don't understand the argument that 2 months is not enough time to announce, market and sell a title... to me that's a better timeline than what every other pub does.

With 2 months they are going to assuredly show younthe actual game and not some BS fake trailer or target renders. With 2 months they are going to almost certainly know that the release date for the game is on time and won't be delayed. Two months is plenty of time to watch trailers and get hands on impressions... why do people even wanna see games years out from their launch? The games that get shown years before they release aren't representative of the final product. Makes no sense to me. I wish all games were announced and shown a month or two out. It's plenty of time to get hyped, and you'll be sure to be hyped for an actual game and not vaporware or a bunch of lies.

While a major blowout, I don't expect half presentable games and logos like Wii U 2013

Look at it this way. People won't be going crazy everyday with a date to look forward to.

I'm fine with Nintendo pre-announcing this. The wait and uncertainty of when they were going to anounce Switch after E3 was annoying. Especially coming to GAF and seeing the front page full of NX threads speculating when they were going to anounce it.

Anyway I suspect they are waiting till January so that they can show off a lineup that isn't dominated by ports. SSB4, MK, and Splatoon may get remasters and BotW is also releasing on Wii U. So that's 4 potential remasters/ports of Wii U titles. Not too mention 3rd parties will likely have a large portion of ports and/or remasters from PS4/Vita/3DS/WiiU games.

I don't see how this is much different then getting the E3 and PSX dates months in advance.

They are cutting it kinda close, no? I mean its coming out in March. I fear its going to get delayed until 2017 holiday.

OMG, seriously? PLEASE tell me you're not serious.

If GAF has taught me one thing, it's that people love to be lied to.

Those are yearly events, so their general dates are taken for granted long before the actual dates are announced.

I'm not criticizing Nintendo for this decision, what works works, but it's going to be funny watching people here talk about nothing for months leading up to the announcement.

SIE announced PSX 2016, which occurs this December, in September.

This is a three day event, not a Nintendo Direct.
I am fine with this announcement of an announcement but comparing psx to Nintendo releasing details of a brand new console possibly launching 2 months later isn't apples to apples.

If GAF has taught me one thing, it's that people love to be lied to.

Because games announced 6 months/1 year before the release are just announced to be able to lie to us with bullshots and all? Come on...

Everyone is not milionaire and some people need more than 2 months to save/prepare money for a console + 3/4 games... As I said especially teens/young adults (you know, the people mostly aimed by Nintendo).

And it's true that Nintendo never lies... Iwata "no, we're not working on a 3DS XL, there won't be a 3DS XL", 3 weeks after "here is the 3DS XL". Ok.
