Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

It's going to be interesting to see how it's presented. If it's a Japanese conference with translators, it honestly might be a mistake. But my guess is Nintendo knows what they're doing and it'll somehow be tailored for each territory.

Finally we'll get the superior subbed version.

At least I can stop looking at the Amazon Switch page. Preorders pretty much aren't going to go up till this event.

I'm not used to Nintendo announcing a presentation that's still so far ahead. Still, it's great to know and this really drives the point that any new Switch information is not a focus for the rest of this year.

More than likely representatives from the major branches will speak in parts, but the Japanese presenter (Either Miyamoto, Kimishima, or Morimoto) will probably be the main host with Bill translating.

If Nintendo actually gets Overwatch on Switch, then damn it's going to turn into an addiction for some.

Make console Overwatch with semi-gyro functionality and you got yourself something I can actually play.

I've got a feeling that this console launch will have the most launch games I've ever bought alongside one. I'm glad they're giving me a two-month heads up. :P

I'm already committed for Zelda and Skyrim (not announced officially I know but I can't not see it being there), I wanna see what else they have up their sleeves. Persona 5 please!

Wonder how most Persona fans would feel about a mainline game being on a Nintendo console. It's always been very associated with the Playstation brand.

HOLY SHIT!!!

That came out of fricken nowhere!

MY WORD!
I congratulate you for this amazing GIF, good sir.

Unless they are console warriors, why would they care where else the game ends up? In fact, P5 arriving on Switch at/near launch would be a good thing since it would expose that game to more people.
Don't see how anyone could be mad about that.
Also having P5 on a portable would be the shit. Would probably make me wait for the Switch version instead of buying on PS4. Playing P4G on Vita was great.

I just remember some people were upset when SMT4 was announced for 3DS, lol.

Eh, mild crow I guess. I don't think there were many taking a hard "they'll never do a press conference ever again" stance.

I remember saying they needed to do it when it was assumed they'd be revealing the thing at e3 2016. The reason being perception and expectation.

But they decided not to show anything but Zelda at E3, thus lowering expectations drastically, once again creating the perception that Nintendo wasn't going to be at E3, and then winning our hearts with the Zelda we've been begging for for a long time.

I think NX's upcoming March release in combination with the rumors, and the fast sharing of information in today's age, had led to the rapid response in great number that the Switch has received so far. These things have given me something to think about in regards to digital sharing of information.

I find the response to the machine to be interesting, but obviously, the games will determine this things fate, and presenting these things with confidence in front a crowd is a good move, as it will show a stable working machine to people and catch live reactions to the software presented. I think Nintendo is on the right path based on Zelda, and Switch's options of play (hope the rumor are true that joy-cons will have gyro and can play the role of Wiimotes) right out of the box. I look forward to learning more in January.

Hmm I can't tell if waiting months with a clear date in sight is better or worse than having it always potentially be tomorrow...

It's nearly November and silly season for games. 12th Jan is just about the earliest date they could choose post-holidays once everyone is back at work etc, and allowing for press to travel to Tokyo too.

Seems reasonable to me.

Two months between knowing the games and the actual release. This sure is a speedy schedule.
In games industry sure, but tech world as a whole has been moving towards Apple style "in stores starting today!" conferences for a while now.

Marketing wise it's a lot easier to build hype and monumentum between the reveal and release when it's 2 months instead of a year.

Nice to see Nintendo smarting up and not go down the direct route. Also the people who are saying Jan 12-13 is cutting it to close and we will see a delay they have for the past two Gens have giving price and Launch Line up 2 months out

Smart move by them. I feel like if they had just announced back in E3, they would talk more about it in October, people would have been a lot less crazy. Uncertainty can do crazy things. Perhaps Nintendo themselves was not sure then when exactly they'd be ready, especially in light of the rumors that the Mario build took a little longer to stabalize.

As expected, they wanna focus on 3DS, Pokemon, Mario Maker, Mario Run etc for this holiday, and sell as much as they can, early next year instead they'll be all in on Switch

Kinda fuckin weird... Why so far away?

2 months isn't very long to generate hype. It sounds cool but I'm not sold until I hear some more soldiers news.

Getting a date and confirmation of a live conference is enough for me at this stage. It's a long wait for sure, but this at least means less wait between announcements and getting my hands on the games.

This needs to be IT for Nintendo, no more holding back. This is their last shot to get relevant again and stop losing money.

The name of the event though "Nintendo Switch Presentation" ... they could have come up with something less dry and more exciting.

Nintendo hasn't done a live presentation reveal like this in a long time. I think it's going to be pretty hype.

Outside a 3D Mario, BoTW, and the Splatoon/Kart/Smash/Mario-Maker remasters, I want to see how stacked the library can really get. A new Animal Crossing or F-Zero. You know one of the dormant franchises will rear it's head.

For 3rd parties, at this point with all the leaks coming true I'm lead me to believe BG&E2 is a thing, as well as an inevitable Monster Hunter game. Something from Namco, Capcom, Square, and Platinum Games could be announced.

There's going to be some bombs dropped at this reveal. I don't know if I can handle it.
