Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

Very cool to have a set date. Ok I'm not worried it's going to be delayed anymore. As Emily said, they seem ready and have a clear plan it seems.

Kinda fuckin weird... Why so far away?

2 months isn't very long to generate hype. It sounds cool but I'm not sold until I hear some more soldiers news.
Nintendo doesn't want to focus on things they can't sell right now on holiday season. Also November and December are very crowded months with big releases so Switch news could end up lost in the crowd.

Two months is more than enough times to generate hype in today's world. I don't get why consoles would need a year of hype building when many other tech products are released on a few week's notice and manage to hype people up just fine.

Isn't Persona 5 on PS3 so it's not crazy

That whole thread happened because FFXIII that was assumed to be an exclusive PS3 game was also announced for the 360. So it's a similar scenario if P5, an exclusive PS game, gets announced to other platforms.

I doubt P5 port to Switch will happen though. But who knows? That will be one crazy day at GAF if it happens lol.

Wonder how most Persona fans would feel about a mainline game being on a Nintendo console. It's always been very associated with the Playstation brand.

Would be happy if it sells to more people. They deserve all the success they can get and I would love to see what they could do when they grow more and can realistically up their production even further without it being a huge bet on having to sell unprecedented amounts of copies.

It's nice that they announced a date. Still think that it feels like they're losing a lot of momentum this way. It's a long time by internet standards.
That said there is probably a good reason maybe that extra time is to get more games ready for the blowout showcase cause everything first party you'll show there most likely needs to release at least in 2017 to make for an extremely convincing push.

If there were incredible good marketing people at Nintendos (lol) they would invite NintendoKaren for the presentation.

Internet Meltdown inc.

Awesome. I'll likely have Friday the 13th off work due to flexidays so I'll stay up late and watch this as it'll likely be past midnight uk time

Yeah they needed to get the hype reveal (trailer) out of the way before the november / december holiday rush. Way too crowded. Now the trailer has people hyped and the console trending online they can wait until January to get full attention on their big event.

What? They already generated hype, now they will sell Pokemon for holiday and beginning of next year they show off what they got in store for 2017, seems reasonable.

Very nice to see a date this far in advance. Speaks for Nintendos grown marketing efforts this time around. I think they nailed the preview.

If they manage to present an extensive look at the launch lineup and show a detailed first year lineup and 3rd party support I'm in. Also: Make this thing able to access the Google Play store.

They should start a countdown beginning on New Years with a teaser each day on social media. Blurry pictures or something like that. That would be great.

Something like the smash dojo just for the hardware? Im in!

"Look at this magnificient thing here...the power cord...wow what power lays within it?"

Announcing games two months before their release ?
Sounds like a good plan if you want them to bomb.

Weren't you complaining they should show everything RIGHT NOW?

So is this pre-recorded?

And guessing their Nintendo Direct branding is gone now?

I sure hope it's pre-recorded. Sony's like translation is super messy and kills any flow whatsoever. Also interesting they are holding this in Japan. How many Western media outlets will go there? The big ones for sure but the rest will just watch the Direct and wait for Nintendo press events. I'm sure Frankfurt will have fun a few days after.

Not really at all.

I very much expect it & I doubt anyone would be shocked or angry about it.

P5 will come to the switch.

Ugh, two and a half months away? Would be nice if Nintendo could drip fed us smaller nuggets of information until then, like screenshots, small videos, hints at games, etc.

Launch games will sell to hardcore/early adopters regardless.

Depends. I feel like there'll be some bomba, especially for 3rd parties late ports.

Weren't you complaining they should show everything RIGHT NOW?

Yes, and it's exactly what I just did right now ?
Sorry but I feel like announcing a game two months before its release will lead to terrible sales for games not called Zelda, Mario or Splatoon.

Jan 12th, we're going to need a few more threads before we get there! So many questions, but the answers are coming
maybe

We have all dem leaks to look forward to until then and honestly, with the holidays coming up the time will fly.

A proper presentation with a live audience instead of a direct to fully unveil the product :). Good!

As expected. I can't wait. Is this the earliest in advance Nintendo has ever announced a Direct-like event?
With a live event like this, they kind of had to announce it early because people would find out about it anyway via press invites and venue bookings.

Hm.

Exactly the date I guessed and 11 days before the famous Wii U January Direct.

I wonder if we'll see similar things announced this year that were announced that year~

Tokyo Mirage Sessions to be the centerpiece of the show.

We have all dem leaks to look forward to until then and honestly, with the holidays coming up the time will fly.

I hope we can make it with at least 1 big software surprise left unscathed.

I might not even be fucking alive then.

And I think people are getting too hung up over the 'presentation' wording. Pretty sure they've used that word interchangeably with the 'Directs' loads of times in the past.

EDIT - I'm an idiot who didn't even read OP properly.

Persona 1, 2, 3, and 4 all have portable versions.

If Atlus sees value in a Switch version of P5, it'll happen.

I'd love to see them invite the press to then tell them "sit down and watch this video".

Seriously though, I prefer pre-recorded waaaay more than LIVE these days. It's the same thing just better.

Seems far away now, but it's just 2 months. And when they show games in January, we can buy some of them just a month and a half later, that's kind of awesome. No long waits!

Since none of what 3rd-parties will show is likely to be exclusive to the Switch at launch, why do they need more than 2 months if we already know what we need to know about those games by the launch lead-up they're already engaged in for other platforms?

Unless you're expecting exclusive 3rd-party games from the current games industry. To which I say LOL.

Late ports will be very exciting for the Switch.

You'll get to play games on the go that you never thought you could.

Ok, what are our hopes for those games?

I'm really hoping for Hearthstone and Overwatch, Shadow of Mordor could be cool, Saints Row: The Third, STARDEW VALLEY PLZ, World of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts Collections and many many more I can't think of right now.
