Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

What are the chances Nintendo secured a deal with Nvidia to get gamestream on the switch?
isn't it called GRID?
Not entirely sure how that would be received, people don't like game streaming despite being super cool tech.
Allowing for games like Witcher 3 to run at ultra on the Switch would be great and the devs wouldn't need to do a thing.
It's interesting, but I do wonder how that could work since splitting the royalties between the 3 doesn't sound too great.

Gamestream is the local streaming implementation. i.e. you got a PC with witcher 3 loaded on it and you stream it to another device in your house with gamestream.

GRID and PS NOW are the cloud streaming services, which yeh people dont seem to like

How would you guys feel about a "pick one" approach for a potential pack-in game? Similar to the free game selection included with Mario Kart 8 where you chose one digital game from a selection of 4 or so. I think allowing everyone to choose one out of the enhanced ports of MK8, Splatoon or Smash might prove effective.

I don't know where this whole Monolithsoft talk came in from but it's been a year and a half since XCX.

I doubt they have anything super substantial to show yet.

I think within the first year of the Switch we will have:

Mainline Zelda
Mainline Mario
Mario Kart and Smash Bros. ports
Mario Maker, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X ports
Pokemon Spinoff - 'Eclipse'?
Pokken port
First-Party Mini-Game Franchise
Retro Studios game
Pikmin 4

Nintendo is not fucking around. If that is indeed the scenario for the first year, I don't see how the Switch fails.

Personally think it will be like this. Many will detest it, but I hope they bring forward nearly every Wii U exclusive in some capacity. I'd re-buy and purchase many I missed out on, purely for the ability to take them on the go. It would also help buttress the usual first 18 month drought immensely.

Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, and Breath of the Wild on a handheld? That's exciting.

I could see this working out well.

I remember Monolith Soft saying the game was already finished way before release. And if that's true they worked on the new game for close to 2 years now so I could see a teaser trailer in the January presentation. But remember that they probably want to save stuff for E3 too, so better not get too excited.

Why would I buy any indie game on the Switch if I can just buy it for peanuts on Steam and stream it to the Switch?

Well you wouldn't need a wifi connection to stream it when your out and about since it'd be on the system itself. I was thinking more big name titles that normally dont appear on Nintendo consoles, I feel like it'd help Nintendo's lack of third party titles even if it isnt really on their system as long as you have a capable PC. Also would probably make it the go-to device for PC gamers looking for a console compliment. Just thinking it could reach a broader audience if it was an option.

They started with hiring new people for their next project at the beginning of this year as well.

What are the chances Nintendo secured a deal with Nvidia to get gamestream on the switch?

I'm really curious to see how much Nvidia will end up being in the Switch besides hardware. Their GeForce Experience software just introduced an account system so maybe one could link one's Switch with that.

As far as streaming goes I'm not seeing it.

I'm going to be so anxious and crazy the final week or so leading up to this reveal.

I wasn't expecting them to announce it this far out. Everyone has the heads up to take off from work or whatever they need to do to get ready to see it live.

Luckily for America it seems like it won't happen until afternoon time.

lmao Wii U2 confirmed

So, what are the chances they release joy-cons with those "scrollable wheels" instead of shoulder buttons?

I'm thinking this is where we'll see them.

Omg. Okay, I'll explain this as calmly and clearly as possible...

So...Soraya Saga has a history of retweeting Nintendo Directs before the event happens. Turns out that every time she retweets the announcement (whether it's a day or the week before), news of Monolith Soft's game occurs at the event.

I have gathered info that she retweeted the following events, all of which Xenoblade Chronicles X made an appearance:

-Wii U Direct on January 23, 2013
-Nintendo Direct @ E3 2013
-E3 Digital Event 2014
-Nintendo Direct (November 5, 2015)

Based on Soraya Saga's history and looking at her latest retweets (NCL, NoA, & NoE) of the Switch Presentation, there's a possibility that Monolith Soft will be presenting their next project at the event!

I believe. Bring on Jan 13.

I've suggested this before. With scrollable shoulder buttons you can add a lot of functionality even being able to control the camera horizontally

I've spoken to others that think the same, my brother thinks it's a new wii u controller so he can play mario kart 8 and splatoon away from home.
The direct in January can't come soon enough in my opinion.

Lol I don't know how someone can possibly think that after seeing the ad.

Its not a direct in January, its a live conference.

Wasn't MonolithSoft working on Zelda after finishing XCX?

I still wouldn't be surprised by a trailer, though it would be 2018 at the earliest.

To be fair he is only 15.
As far as i can tell it's because they showed wii u games like splatoon, zelda and mario kart 8..... he presumes they fixed the wii u so you can actually use it away from the house but need a new controller.

What are the chances Nintendo secured a deal with Nvidia to get gamestream on the switch?
Would be nice but I'd rather see GeoForce Now the subscription service that plays games from the cloud.
Only thing is you need pretty fast internet but my experience with it is very good and it would give the switch a instant library of games that would other wise be unavailable. I'm hoping one of the conditions was to implement this service and Nintendo would get better deal from nVidia but I'm talking out my ass and just wishing at this point.

I hope Nintendo has a place in gaming in the mobile era. They really need to tell people why they should have a Switch next to their phone and tablet, no idea how though.

An issue with a Sun and Moon port would be that the game could look nice in HD, but as is it's not really a game that can stand next to:

or

Might muddy the waters if they just port the 3DS game and make fans think "this is it?"
Wii U games work since those are still HD and look pretty nice.
That being said, I think the character models (outside of textures) look pretty nice.

Would GameFreak be willing to make a new overworld and arenas with the high quality character models from battles?
That might solve the issue while not increasing the workload dramatically.
Improvements like no transitions from overworld to battles would be nice. Would allow them to get more out of the new world.
Having a behind the camera view with more OoT Zelda like traversal could get people interested instead of just the top down view.

It doesn't have to, especially, if it keeps the $40 price point.

Good. Zelda is only going to be marketed for the Switch. Nintendo knows the hardcore fans already know it's releasing for the Wii U. To the mass it needs to be known it's only releasing for the Switch.

It's not like the whole development team was working on Zelda. Most of it is Aonuma's team, while a select handful of MonolithSoft devs help them when open world.

So NOW people know the Wii U exists?

Schrödinger's video game system

Even though they're overlooking the fact that it's an entirely new platform, they're right about the concept. There's just the small matter of zero backwards compatibility with the games they already own.

Although there is no confirmation, it's likely that the Kyoto studio (as opposed to the main studio in Tokyo known for the Xenoblade series) is assisting with the production of BotW. It's essentially the Kyoto studio's role: assisting other Nintendo dev teams.

Honestly, the people who can't figure out that this is something new with an entirely new name will never learn.

If they do this third parties would probably see less of an incentive (than they already do) in bringing AAA ports to Switch, since people can just buy the PC version, and therefore Nintendo would miss out on a massive amount of licensing revenue.

So I wouldn't expect it, at least officially.

Xenogears Remake Switch!!!
In my dreams

Now I'm very afraid we won't see Retros game in January. Since Monolith Softs game will more than likely be there and it takes place in Japan they may decide to hold out until E3 to reveal Retros game.

All this talk about a new Xenoblade, man, count me in. I would kill for a third game and if they can take the best out of the first two entries, it would be a dream.

They can still show the game through more and more elaborated teasers for each "big event".
X was announced on Wii U at the very end of Nintendo Direct, not E3.
And Iwata even talked about it in another Direct in 2012.

If there's a port of whichever Xenoblade, I'd say there would be both games, the port and the new one.
Monolith Soft is their RPG first party developers team now, so they have have to make it big.

I expect a sequel in the same universe but with a somewhat new setup. I just have idea how they can connect the whole thing.
This... or Elma in Smash Bros, but hmm, I'd prefer the new game to be shown.

They started with hiring new people for their next project at the beginning of this year as well.
To be fair they're annoying really often(for Tokyo and Kyoto) and I'm pretty sure the number of employee was multiplied since a few years.

I'll be very surprised and disappointed if that's the case.

I mean, Tropical Freeze came out back in early 2014 and was essentially finished back in late 2013. Retro said that at that point they were already beginning to work on their next game.

By this time this event happens, it will be nearly three years since Retro started working on their new project. How could they possibly have nothing to show? Not even a teaser?

EDIT: Reread your a post little more clearly...you could be right, maybe they wanted to have something new and big for E3. Still hoping it gets revealed in January however.

There was that whole thing with the Tanabe fallout though. It's possible that the project was scrapped or reset after that.

Or, If Retro are really indeed making a new IP, they may just need more time. They really are only "70+" employees according to Nintendo's official numbers earlier in the year, which is tiny these days to build a large scale game.

Who knows. Maybe we'll see it in January, and maybe we won't. I would only be worried if E3 comes and goes and we don't see it.
