Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Does anyone know if the Samsung KU6400 can deal with 3tb or 4tb harddrives?
I've tried a 3TB one and it recognizes it, but doesn't show me any content on it.

Go for this. Has nothing to do with brands. If you are not getting the KS8000 series, the rest of Samsung and LG and Sharp pale in comparison to Sony. If you need that size, get the Sony X800D series, you'll get better motion, less input lag, better HDR, and Android TV to boot.

But I don't trust the seller, I think its a scam.

I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be, but you could just connect to the receiver when you're playing movies. Connecting the PS4 Pro to a non-compliant receiver will just have everything output at 1080p. Alternatively there are $50 Bluray players that have more functionality and work better than what you get on the PS4 so you could just buy one of those and have it be dedicated for that function.

I have an way earlier 1080p Samsung model, but it also struggles with external harddrives over 2TB, unless you partition it into 2x 2tb.
Might wanna try that out, if you don't find any other solution.

Read above. It is not as good for HDR as the KS8000 but it also costs less. The Sony television will have better media abilities because of Android TV versus Samsung tizen os, but if your goal is the best HDR, than the Samsung wins here. I feel Sony has better motion, colour, upscaling technology, but the Samsung has better HDR performance.

Thanks man...think I might just wait for next year then. Really feel like everything is hit/miss in some areas and if I'm spending $1200 for a new TV when my current set still looks great, I kinda want something closer to the full package. Once I get the pro I'm gonna take it to Best Buy and PC Richards and ask to hook it up

We got a wave of scammers here currently.
Basically states "Contact us before you buy it".
Marketplace dealers and there are a shitload of them.

Amazon isn't doing much about it...

The KS Series isn't part of Amazons lineup here sadly.
There are barely any good offers around. Only good one is a local shop from a big chain offering the KS8000 for 1.318 $ or the KS9000 for 1.647$, both as 55' version.

Purchased this yesterday for 1499 and will get my $100 difference back today. (1399)

Free $100 back towards PS4 Pro.

You have to distinguish between products sold by Amazon itself and marketplace dealers. If it's sold by Amazon itself, then it's safe no matter if it is Amazon US, UK, FR, or whatever.

Thanks, tried it, but unfortunately I only have a Macbook and I think the kind of partitioning I did wasn't correct, TV still can't read the data.

I've been tempted to upgrade to 4k but I don't feel like it is the right time to do so. The pro can't play 4k blurays and you can't even buy a 4k monitor that is HDR capable yet. Next year maybe.

You'll have to pay tax 13% at the border on top of US price converted to CND. Not sure about duty. Also not sure how the warranty works in this situation. You may have to return to the US if it needs repaired.

However, that will still come out way cheaper than buying here. If its made in Mexico and there is no duty, which I think it is, it will come out to just over $2700 CND.

Just buy from BH Photo and Video.

I keep repeating it, but they ship to Canada from US and you pay US price. You don't need a friend in US to go between and then pay extra border tax.
 
So I'm deciding between a 900 dollar Samsung curved tv (ku6500) and a 1200 dollar Samsung suhd (ks8000). Both are 55". I can get a 300 dollar promo card with the ku6500 so it would make the difference between the two 600 dollars. I'm not very knowledgeable about 4K tvs but i have been following the ks8000 thread. For gaming purposes is there a substantial difference between the two to justify the price difference?

Good god. Canadian here too. That is a fantastic deal compared to here. BB wants $2600 for just the 55". The 65" is $3800 here. Absolutely insane. Go for it, dude!

Edit: For clarity $3800 CAD is currently $2840 USD. So ignoring the tax advantage of a reduced base price, there is a $1150 USD/$1540 CAD price advantage to that deal. Insane.
 
People continue to mention the KS8000 in these threads, yet also say to wait it out for better deals on better 4K TVs.

Besides not being an OLED, what are the cons with the KS8000? Think some people mentioned heavy motion blur?

Motion looks great to me, and I am coming from a high end Panasonic Plasma.

That's weird - I guess Samsung pricing is all over the place over the world. I payed <1100 euro for 49" KS7000 (aka KS8000 in US models) which was around 100 more than Sony asked for XD800 here.

Been wondering about them. They come up in searches, but if you google the site you see a fair bit of complaints like infinitely delayed orders, etc.

Do you have personal experiences with them? Have been super tempted.

How would the move to KS8000 measure up, in terms of motion, IQ, lag, etc all?

2. I'm considering jumping from 55 inch to 60, but I would like to measure the space on my shelf to see if it'll fit nicely. I'm mainly concerned about vertical space, since there's a shelf right above my TV without much space in-between. How do I measure the difference in height from a 55 inch TV to 60?

3. Most likely I would get this from Best Buy, due to having a 24 month no finance card and good cs history. Is there anything I could say that might help convince them to include a 4K UHD player for free?
 
You guys missed the Perks at Work deal that was going on.65" KS8000 was $1379 (Ordered mine on 10/21 and it is coming in this week) and the 60" was $1079. Don't think we will see prices that low even on Black Friday.

Yes. The 6500 is not as good as the 8000 series when it comes to display and HDR. Wven for gaming purposes, if your goal is 4k and hdr gaming, the 8000 series, if price is no object, is your best bet.

However because of your promo price, the price of the 6500 is very good for 55". You will still see amazing 4k and HDR. This is a question only you can really answer.

1. Probably will be worse overall considering your 8000 series was a flagship when it launched with full perfect local dimming, better motion capabilities. You also have 3D as well. However, it is really apples to oranges because if your goal is 4K and HDR gaming, your television right now will not compare as there is nothing to conpare to. KS8000 at 4k/with HDR on will obliterate what your tv does even at perfect 1080p settings.

2. You always measure diagonally. Since both televisions have slim bezels, pretty much add 2.5" diagonally to the top left hand and 2
5" to the bottom right hand of your bezel to simulate. Keep in mind most televisions have dimensions available as well for when you look, so you can measure up before you buy.

3. Discretion of the employee/store. Best Buy is not commission based so there is very litle chance of a free $400+ UHD player. The store would not be willing to take a loss of $400ish just to sell one television.

I'd also lose lossless audio on PS4 games so there's nothing but a downgrade there without a huge hassle. Also, it no longer becomes family friendly with swapping cables. Plus, I've spent a couple hundred on cable management to streamline it all; it'll be painful to rewire everything. I'll just wait until proper hardware is available; there's no need to rush into it.

So what you're saying is it'll look worse for 1080p and below content, but look better for 4K?

But since there isn't a lot of 4K stuff to monopolize it over 1080p content, I'm better off waiting for a TV that is better in every respect, correct?
 
I was not planning on jumping onto 4K TV yet, except my 4 year old Samsung died on me yesterday.

Looking at Sony X850D with Android TV built in, saving one HDMI for Chromecast. I hated my Samsung had only 3 HDMIs. This purchase will delay my purchase of PSVR.
 
For anyone in Germany looking for the B6D, it's currently dropping to the 4k mark.
Not on Amazon, but others like monbeck, cyberport and euronics.
Make sure to let Amazon know there's a cheaper price (There's a button in the product info section), maybe it'll get things rolling.

Hoping for 3,5k during black friday sales.

Well it is hard to quantify. Your television was a flagship Samsung 1080p when it came. The 9000 series that year is when they moved up to UHD 4k. The technologies it used are not necessarily utilized on the KS8000. In retrospect, I think your television is better at motion and 1080p. In retrospect it seems your television might be worse at black levels due to no local dimming, but also has 3D. Your television is also far thinner than what the ks8000 is.

My point being, the KS8000 is no slouch, but if your goal is still just to watch view 95% of the time 1080p content, and you have no need for 4k or HDR, you should wait as you already have an extremely capable 1080p set.

Well I would gladly enjoy all the 4K content that was available. I have a PS4 Pro pre-ordered after all.

But there would still be a large amount of 1080p games/shows I would be focusing on as well, so if those end up worse by the upgrade, then it's not worth switching to this TV unless it's an improvement in EVERY respect to what I currently own.

Just a heads up, Sony 2016 4K HDR models will recieve firmware update that will lover lag in 4K HDR mode before the launch of PS4 Pro.
 
So I'm almost into de KU6400 49 inches. I was just trying to find a test stating on the potential graphical loss of the game mode. Input lag is low to 19.8 but the instructions on TV says it may provide a graphical loss. How bad is it?

Doesn't that probably just mean that postprocessing stuff is disabled? Shouldn't hurt gaming that much.

The update is out already, rtings will be retesting Sony panels sometime this week. They've already updated the ratings for the X850C.

How do I get this, will it be automatic? Do I have to go to some settings section to check for update?
 
Still conflicted on the size whether I should get the 55" or 60". It'll be in a small bedroom that I've converted into an entertainment room and I'll be sitting about 5-6 feet away.

Price difference is only about $200.

Go 60". It's better to get the bigger screen imo. I just got the 65", I'm sitting about 8-9 feet away and I'm in love.

I have but I was in us when I ordered from them haven't shopped them in canada yet but planning to in a few months

It was fine for me TV came in good condition so my experience was fine

Also on my TV I just found enhanced hdmi in Port setting that applies to 2 out of 4 ports so I want to see the difference with this on or off on ps4 pro

Well for reference, I have 20/20 vision. With the 50 inch I just got, I stop seeing pixels when I'm 3 feet away. So I don't think seeing pixels at 5 feet away will be an issue even if you go for a 60 inch TV.

The Enhanced HDMI option is needed to display HDR content. Turning it off will just revert to SDR.
