Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

I'm sitting on the ebay checkout page, just waiting to hit confirm. This would be the most I've ever spent on anything outside of a vehicle. So this would be my TV for the next 5-7 years minimum.

LOL, struggling with the decision. I'm on a 42" RCA LCD 1080p right now. It'd be a tremendous upgrade and I'm buying the PS4Pro obviously...

Comes with a free soundbar, wish I could just get the money off instead.

Do that many people really drop £1600 on a TV and not have a surround system?

No way you're getting 65" of OLED for that price, regardless of the rest of it.
 
Does a 65" TV exist that is the preferred screen technology (full array backlit OLED if I understand things correctly) with the preferred HDR technology (this I am not so clear on) that can be purchased for the neighborhood of $1500. Or is this currently a pipe dream?

That's incorrect. HDR and SDR have different calibrations so you'll have to set up each one once on each input/app you use.

A surround system is not always practical. For me, with kids, a sound bar is by far the best solution.

You're thinking LED. OLED is self lit so there's no array. I'm guessing your price is a pipe dream but I'm not aware of US market prices on the former Vizio sets.

Don't get me wrong, I get that its not for everyone. But so many of these things include a free soundbar that sure many people have no use for at all, and the shops won't just knock the price off or even give you anything at all for it.

For an OLED you can get a 55" for $1500 right now, but that's a fairly steep discount from its normal price. You can also get at 65" for $2500 at clevelandplasma.com, at least that's how much I paid for my 65C6P. The OLED's have both HDR10 and Dolby Vision so you'd be fine no matter which format wins out. The only downside is higher input lag than some other TV's, so decide if that would bother you or not.

Also this, OLED is self-lit so no backlighting. You can get full-array in the Vizio P and M series, the Samsung 9800 (which is way out of your price range) or the Sony X940d or Z9D (which are also ridiculously expensive). The Vizio may fall into your price range, but research the remote to see if you'd be ok with it, and also note that you'd need to buy a separate TV tuner.
 
I ordered the E6. Hope it arrives intact, going to be pretty nervous these next two weeks.

The PS4 Pro comes with the necessary HDMI cable, right? It also has to be plugged directly to the TV? My current PS4 is plugged to my receiver, which plugs into the TV. Based on what I've heard I won't get the full 4K+HDR this way, but it's no big deal, I'll just plug them both to the TV.

What about the solution of getting HDR through the PSVR's processor? Someone made a thread about finding a cheap ($2) solution? Can someone link that?

PS4Pro comes with the "upgraded" HDMI cable, not sure if it needs to be directly to TV depends on your receiver.

You can get an HDMI coupler, tape it to the top of your PSVR box, and either have the PS4 plugged into the box or the coupler which would lead to your screen.

He asked for the $2 option posted in the other thread, I said what it was. :-p But yeah, a splitter can work too but I haven't had luck with cheap ones as they've always flaked out on me after a short amount of time.

After wrestling with it for about an hour, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. What else do I need to prepare for the TV? (won't ship until between Nov. 22 and Nov. 30) Do I need any special higher speed HDMI cables or anything? I have a soundbar and an optical audio cable already. I know the PS4Pro will have an HDMI cable with it, for it's use. Do I need any other essentials?
 
Really debating buying the Samsung KS8000 off of amazon. Would be terrible if it comes defective. I know their policy with returns is awesome, but the hassle of having to return it would be crappy.

I bought off amazon and had no issues. You can inspect it when they deliver, and if it's broken you can refuse delivery and they'll take it back and send you another.

Sometimes just because you ask, doesnt mean you dont want to hear options =) Might just not know, and 25 bucks considering all the money in buying tv ps4pro vr is not that much =)

It's how the X800D and KS8000 got started here. If just one other person got one because of this, you did a good job. Hell, I bought one and JohnDoe8865 too... It's such a sweet price point. I hate appreciate you bringing it up here. I don't think I would have checked Slickdeals in time before it sold out.

I'm also trying to figure out how to have the PS4 Pro hooked up to the 4K TV while also having my Home Theater receiver hooked up to the TV and getting the surround sound. I've never actually messed with it before (always had my consoles connected to my receiver, which is then connected to the TV), so I'm wondering if it can all be done with HDMI or if I'll need an optical cable or otherwise.

So if you get PSVR and PS4 Pro you're fucked somehow?

I don't understand how the coupler works, it just looks like its just an extender so you can put 2 HDMI wires into it and make one long HDMI wire

Someone explain!

Yep. Cant speak for the Pro but the S comes with a proper high speed (18gbs) cable. I would imagine the Pro will as well.

You have a few options, you can use ARC to send audio to the receiver over the HDMI cable, or you can use an optical cable.

As for the coupler, the ends are identical so one end would lead to a cable plugged into the TV and one end would have a cable plugged into it that ran to the PS4, and when you want to use PSVR you'd unplug the PS4 cable and plug it into the PSVR box.

Sorry, I'm still a little conflused: do I have to manually unplug something every time I want to use the PSVR on the PS4 Pro? I thought the point of the coupler was so I could keep the PSVR plugged to the PS4 without losing HDR.

And does this require a third HDMI cable that isn't already included with the PSVR and Pro?

Yes, you still have to manually unplug them. This just makes bridging the two cables a tad easier.

Yes you are right, I did mean switch, as I have one ordered already, but I will blame it on the beers ive had tonight.

If you buy a splitter it will default to the lowest signal in the chain, this means both sources will receive an hdmi 1.4 signal with no HDR since that's what the PSVR processor suoports.

Edit just saw your response.

I thought people were saying the switches they bought didn't work either as they introduce weird artifacts to the headset.

Pretty sure any HDMI cable you've gotten in the past few years is okay with the Pro. Standard HDMI cables officially only support up to 720p/1080i while High Speed is 1080p/4K
