Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

that would work,

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BTBVV5Q/?tag=neogaf0e-20

is another one. as long as they support the standard 400x400 vesa

you wont be walking behind the tv too much tho? to see the stand.

No, but I mean the TV is super thin, almost invisible from the side, and this kinda kills that cool illusion. It's not a huge deal though, more annoyed that I would need to add $50 to the purchase price.

Thanks for your help, man!

Does a 65" TV exist that is the preferred screen technology (full array backlit OLED if I understand things correctly) with the preferred HDR technology (this I am not so clear on) that can be purchased for the neighborhood of $1500. Or is this currently a pipe dream?
TIA, DL

Costco is going to have the 65" Vizio M on sale for like $899 on November 13th. It's not as good as OLED but it is better than LED edge lighting because it uses Full Array Local Dimming(FALD) which help produce much deeper blacks than you can get from edge lit displays. If you're looking for something to tide you over for a couple years until OLED prices come down to earth and the tech gets much better than it is now, then this is the way to go.

No problem, mine going into a corner, so I wont see it unless I go out of my way.

But I had same problem you do, the legs are wobbly and spread apart like a I dont know what.

I'll just use this thread as it's popular right now. I won't be buying a Pro but I need a new tv as my old as hell 40in Samsung from 2008 is just lacking in image quality compared to any decent 1080p tv of today. But if I am going to get a new TV now should I just go for 4K?

I don't want to spend more than $300 for this tv, it's just for gaming, not for some huge home theater. Today at Best Buy they are doing this one day pre Black Friday sale and they have a Samsung 40in 4K tv for $300.

This is the model number samsung un40ku6290f. I can't seem to find much on it online in terms of input lag and stuff. It seems to have fake HDR.

So my question is will I find better 4K deals on Black Friday? Or Should I just get a cheaper 1080p TV for now and then years down the road go all out and get a 70 in super UHD tv for when I do upgrade my gaming space.

Im so close to ordering but I wish there was a pick up option, dont wanna get it shipped to my apt but also dont wanna ship a 55in tv to my job lol

Weird, KU6290f? I don't supposed it is the same as the KU6300? The KU6300 is a pretty good set - good for $300 definitely. A similarly priced 1080p wont be better.

KU6250 is a 1080p set so that can't be it...

Bad news on the EPP front, I called into Samsung support to check on the status of my order I placed on Thursday, November 3rd, and the rep says they are heavily backordered on the KS8000, specifically the 60" model.

Asking if the 7 - 10 business day lead time on the site is accurate, the rep said he'd be shocked if that estimate holds up based on the volume of orders received this week.

Not to say this deal is dead, but anyone ordering this for PS4 Pro launch day is likely going to have to wait a while.

nope, curved isn't great for us as we have a corner sofa so viewing angles can vary. I just wondered if it might have better processing but doesn't sound like it.

I think my shortlist is

Budget: 55" Sony XD85xx/XD80xx £999
Mid : 55" Sony XD93 £1600 but with free stupid soundbar so probably £1500 after I sell that. Not sure how much better it is than the 800 though, and input lag seems high on this model.
High : 55" LG C6. Like the idea of OLED blacks and contrast, but unsure about input lag and lower brightness for HDR - viewing area is a well lit living room, prefer not to watch with lights out (thats what the projector is for)

Is the goal any sort of gaming or no? Or is the 4k and HDR for viewing more? The SonyX930D series is a very very nice television especially for 4k and HDR, better than the Samsung KS8000. But the input lag is much higher for games.

Brightness is an issue with OLED, the blacks are killer. It is why the Sony Z9D might have the advantage because it has a retina butning over 1800+ nits of brightness.

But yeah the B6 and C6 are identical except the curved has 3D.

Im thinking of returning a TV to Sam's club. Anything I should know? Like can I just tell them it didnt meet expectations? There is nothing wrong with it but for the same ish money I could get the Samsung one.

For reference I bought a base model 65in 4K vizio TV, its not the P or higher end models. (well myn cousin but using my membership)

Damn wish we could have waited.

Also bonus Q, are the samsung TV's gonna run out eventually? I still see people here and in SD placing orders on the EPP website.

So I decided to buy it, the Sony 55XD93 (55X93D in the US). Currys have a 10.5% cashback going, and the free soundbar I should be able to sell for at least £100, though I've seen them sell at £150 on ebay.

So I go to order. The TV I can have delivered tomorrow, great! The soundbar is now collection only...and you can't put the bloody code in to get it free with the TV when it's collection only!

So for now I'm holding off. I could probably walk in to a store and get it all together, but then I don't get the £168 cashback. fml.

So yeah, mildly miffed.

Can't you buy online for the cash back, and choose to pick up in store?

Probably 50:50 TV/movies : gaming. But nothing super competitive, it's the main family TV so a bit of everything

Need to check lag on the XD93 vs the others. I can manage 'high' but I don't know if it is too high.

Bummer. Have they charged your card yet?

This TV business is about to drive me crazy. The KS8000 seems to be the go-to for gaming, but I still play a lot of retro games and it's lacking composite & component inputs, and I don't want to buy a Framemeister or line-doubler just to play old games. I'd rather have an all-in-one solution. So then I look at the B6 and think it's solved that issue by being OLED and having all the inputs, but the input lag is nowhere near as good as the KS8000. I think I've talked myself out of buying anything this year and just trying to be content with this plasma, but it continues to bug me.

I understand your reason, but for the difference, that's the cost of a Framemeister.

I think input lag has become the new 'burn in' red herring issue. The input lags are higher than most, but you can play even at 70ms and not really notice anything. If your goal is competitive gaming, a gaming pc monitor would be your best bet. Otherwise you have always been playing at high input lag even with a Plasma. For example, some Panasonic plasma had input lag as high as 50ms a few years back. You just don't notice that as much because of the sub frame and faster refresh of plasmas.

Obviously you want as low input lag as possible, but if you have been using any sort of television made in the last 7 years to game, you have already been playing anywhere between 20-70ms already.

Yeah online it says it's a special version of the KU6300, it's missing some remote thing I don't care about.

Yeah that sounds like a pretty good deal then.

If you are willing to splurge - the 55'' KS8000 people are talking about in this thread can't be beat (even on BlackFriday unless stores are willing to take a loss). It's $729 right now with cashback (wowpoints) + potential 10% cashback if you also do it through discover.

Anyone with an OLED have static image burn in/retention?

(Gaming hud menus, etc)

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1718409&d=1476583517

Someone from Avsforum left it on vivid mode and no change in for several hours and ended with this. OLED does not really get image burn in as opposed to image retention. This guys will go away but will take time. Keep in mind, vivid mode and a single non changing image will cause image retention after a few hours. Some people have ssid they have 600-4000 hours already on OLED with no change.

There is a big difference between 20ms and 70ms. The difference is certainly tangible. You can get a TV that is both decent in lag and decent in PQ rather than spend more money on a TV with excellent pq and buying a gaming monitor on the side

Of course. Where did I say you couldn't but to pretend that gaming cannot happen outside of 22ms to 33ms televisions is flat out absurd.

My reply was to someone who wanted to just stick with their plasma and wait for next year as if input lag is going to decrease when it is the same year over year. There was a time some Sony televisions hit low 15ms in game mode, now they are over 33 to 59ms etc.

https://www.cnet.com/news/game-mode-on-cnet-tests-tvs-for-input-lag/

Cnet had done a test on the top models of 2013/2014 etc. Next years televisions will be the same as well. Some sets struggling this year the companies will focus on improving input lag while other companies may have higher lag as they introduce better visual technologies at the expense of lag etc.

I had no intention of buying a 4K TV for PS4 Pro, but I impulse bought a 55 inch Sony today. Checked the reviews quickly on my phone while doing it so it seems like I did well.

any major differences between the LG OLED B6 and C6, or is it just curved + 3D? Currys in the UK have them both at the same price

10%off is tempting but I need to plant that seed first with my wife so that when I eventually buy one, she just sighs with the inevitability of it all. And I should probably sell my vive as a goodwill gesture.

Curved and 3D is the only diff from what I remember

I have my computer hooked up to monitor that claims to have 5ms, I know what low lag feels like. In my experience there are diminishing returns below 40-50ms and while you can feel the difference compared to a low lag PC monitor, a 10~ms difference between the Sony and Samsung? I very, very much doubt it.

I understand your reason, but for the difference, that's the cost of a Framemeister.

Oh I know. I've been in the Retro AV Club thread asking them far too many questions about the XRGB-Mini. I still don't trust myself to configure and use one correctly.

The TV I've been playing on for a while is the Panasonic GT30, which is something like 20-25 ms input lag. I wish it were possible for me to try something with 60-70 ms lag just to see if I can tell the difference between it and my GT30.

Good to see the ball is still rolling. Wheatly you've helped start a party that's not stopping until the sun goes down. GAF doing the HDR God's work.

Can't you buy online for the cash back, and choose to pick up in store?

I can for the cashback, but because you pay in store and not online you can't use the code you use to get the soundbar for free. So the only remaining option is buy the TV without the free soundbar for £1570, get £168 cashback and be happy with a £1400 TV.

I don't even want the bloody soundbar, but its £100+ I can get back.

Curses.

Got in on the EPP deal today for the 65" KS8000 @ 1279+tax. A little hassle with getting an invite but worth the small trouble. I'm okay with a short delay in the shipping, because this is easily as good as any BF deal is going to be, probably better.
