Boop! Overwatch World Cup

Korea stomping Russia harder than the US.

Has the US been the only team to give Korea a challenge? And even then it didn't feel like that =/

And I think only reason US was able to challenge to Korea was that Korea was playing more boldly than usual to them.

Pro gaming/ e-sports is a national past time in South Korea. They have institutions dedicated to e-sports afaik. It's easier to dedicate your time to a game when you have a coach, a schedule and still get paid like a traditional athlete. But because of this I think Overwatch League could be a huge thing.

Almost like asking why Finland has a good hockey team.

So pro-gaming and e-sports is not a thing in S-Korea that is looked down upon like in the west? By this I mean people looking at gaming in general as a waste of time and something that children do.

These teams have been pretty static. Very few surprise switch ins, even fewer that wasn't another popular character (like Winston).

I wonder how many Korean players would participate in the Overwatch League, considering Blizzard probably wouldn't want a bunch of teams of only Korean players. World Championship at Blizzcon next year might be considered a bit less of a legitimate win than it would otherwise. Especially if there are no or few Korean players.

Several decades of cult like playing of StarCraft turned eSports into national sport in SK.

Blizzard didn't care about Korean's annihilating StarCraft 2 tournaments time and time again so I don't see them caring here either.

Not gonna lie, I'm not surprised at Russia getting stomped. Russia's half of the bracket was fairly easy in comparison, while SK took out all of the favourites.

You can look up some awesome documentaries on youtube about gaming in korea :D!

At the height of Broodwar, even grandparents used to watch it. There were TWO TV channels entirely devoted to esport and videogame content. Shit's still nutty.

I don't know how Ryujehong lands it when you've got Genji darting through the sky like a madman. Amazing stuff. You miss you're dead.
I remember during APAC that I was amazed at how often Ryujehong just shot down ults by Rogue with this. His Ana is absolutely insane.

Oh no, pro gamers in SK are treated like rockstars. It's almost a complete opposite to how majority of western countries still treat gaming.

That's just common in sports analysis. It's not about giving opinion, but selling a narrative.

That's a common Blizzard-game thing. Most CSGO leagues by comparison big name or not, don't bother sugar coating things, especially when it cuts back to the analyst desk.

How dare they look like professionals in worldwide broadcast! Bring out sweatpants and worn out t-shirts for maximum nerdiness!

Lol, no that's not what I meant. The others chose a "sportive" look. The alternative definitely is not sweatpants.
