United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

Did my job early voting in TX do Hillary. Would love to see this state go dem this election (even though it probably won't happen )

CA ballot measure for death penalty ban is still failing according to polls. The ironic thing is the opposing ballot to SPEED UP death penalty cases is also failing.

So we as a state are OK with just wasting money cause we haven't actually executed anyone in like 10 years. Just throw money at nothing I guess.

I voted yes on the ban and no on speeding up. I don't think saving money on performing death penalties will ever help repealing the death penalty.

This seems like a good thread to remind FL GAF that the solar amendment on the ballot this year is actually a scam, don't vote yes on it.

welp, i was scammed. There seemed nothing negative about solar in that amendment.

Fuck this is frustrating. Hopefully Florida doesn't get sent back to the Stone Age with this misleading fucking amendment.

Vote NO on 1 if you're in Florida for the love of god.

It is frustrating. Had a conversation with my father about it a few days ago, explaining how it was a scam and he had seemed to fully understand. Even noted that he had heard something elsewhere earlier that very day about it.

Tonight he tells me he voted yes on it (his wife voted no), because he read it on the ballot like 3 times and he "couldn't find anything wrong with it".

I registered to vote earlier this week, and was planning on voting come Tuesday, but I apparently received a mail-in ballot in the mail yesterday. I was told that Monday is the deadline for mail-in ballots, so...I'm thinking of just mailing my ballot instead.

Is Monday the deadline for receiving them? Or mailing them out?

I'm not sure where you live but on Steve Schale's blog (he's a Florida political strategist) he wrote on Friday:

PRO TIP: AT THIS POINT, DON’T MAIL YOUR BALLOT BACK – TAKE IT TO AN EV SITE, THE SOE OFFICE OR YOUR POLLING LOCATION ON TUESDAY.

I live in Utah, but I will keep that in mind.

Colorado will be really close I think.

So then why is Hillary in Pennsylvania on monday?

https://twitter.com/danmericaCNN/status/795007305079255045

Kerry lost to Bush in 2004. And he was far more popular than Hillary.

Stop paying so much attention to CNN.

Yes she can lose Pennsylvania like how Trump can lose Arizona. No, the numbers aren't really good for Trump. Pennsylvania has no early voting so you have to mobilise the base close to the election, hence why she's going there on Monday.

If you're an idiot like Trump, you go there early in the week while letting places with early voting go to shit. Notice that the Democratic campaign has been campaigning in states that have early voting.

Because she's not an idiot...? As you can see from that tweet she'll also be in Michigan that day. Do you think Michigan is close too?
Before they even answer that, I can remind them that no Republican has won Michigan during a presidential election since 1988.

I barely follow US politics so I'm just imaging the most nightmare scenario.

And here is a scenario where McDonalds takes over Utah and the Southern states wake up and realize a wall is not going to work and it's just a huge waste of money that will only piss off Mexico.

As an outsider looking in (UK here), I hope you don't fuck it up like we did with Brexit.

I think a lot of remainers just assumed that we would never vote Leave as we could never collectively vote for something so mental.

If you can vote, then vote - don't just imagine everyone else is gonna ng to do it for you.

And most importantly - stay safe, don't let this election tear your country apart.

colbert is doing a big election day show on showtime, no way am I missing that while I drown myself in booze

Which I could find a showtime stream, that sounds amazing.

I live in Korea, so I'll probably just watch CNN or whatever English stream I can find.

Why is Ohio expected to go red this election?

Why is Ohio expected to go red this election?

Because blue is the color of Michigan.

GO BUCKS!

Trump has either been even or a few points ahead in Ohio for quite a while now. It's a toss up, but it ever so slightly favors Trump atm. Hoping my fellow Ohioans get their shit together and prove everyone wrong.

Comment is accurate. Many of the Bible's heroes were guilty of all sorts of harrowing acts, genocide included. The Christian element tends to be their redemption, or redeeming traits.

No this is total theological bullshit made up as a last attempt to try and convince evangelicals to support the unsupportable. if you think that voting for Trump doing and saying those things that he did somehow means that God will use him you are very wrong. God may use broken people but that does not mean he uses all broken people.

I'm heartened to see the word get out pretty well on social media.

GAF, at 37 this is the first time both my girlfriend and I have ever voted. She's not really much interested in politics so, honestly, I've been trying to inform her of the issues, candidates, and amendments. I've always been interested in politics but just felt either disenfranchised or like the candidates I supported were so on lock that there was no point in voting. I know. Irresponsible of me.

Anyways it seemed so crucial this election that we both registered and voted early. I'm really hoping that medical marijuana passes here as a couple who are dear friends of ours might both partake if it were possible. He's a vet with PTSD, her a lovely young mom with terminal cancer. They deserve to have that option on the table. I'm hoping this is just one more step towards nationwide decriminalization.

Anyone who is reading this who hasn't registered yet for some odd reason it's totally easy and not inconvenient in the least. I only wish I'd fulfilled my civic duty earlier.
