Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Ok. I bought one earlier. Just wanted to know if it was even worth asking if anyone still wanted an invite. So not much time left lol.

Not really. It is just more of a hassle but defects are easily refundable without any restocking fees. Besides the price is unbeatable. The 65" will easily cost you almost 1/4th more at Costco ie. $450 more and it is on a sale there as well. Light bleed and dead pixels you should check for on any set right away as it is.

I am someone who encourages people to buy stuff from Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung etc. stores directly. If its their product, they provide the best customer service to you.

Just turn them on. Light bleed will show if you see areas or strips on the television where it is significantly brighter than the rest. This is not though the same as regular edge light bleed. You will see your set be brighter at the corners. This is normal. But if it causes the picture to be very off then it is abnormal. For dead pixels ideally white or black screens work best. Look with your own eyes all over and see if any are stuck or dead. Then watch bright hdr or 4k demo content and just move your eyes across inches from the display seeing any issues. There is also videos on youtune that help.

You will either see it or you won't.

Its telling me your email address already has an account on the system.

I was having issues earlier as well. When I tried to log in it said my email address was already used or something. I had to reset password and instead of letting me reset my password it let me in the store. This website is strange.
 
So jealous of all you. At least the titanfall supersampling looks insane! Ill get my 4k maybe around black Friday.

Edit: when I was at best buy today I was checking out the display model and the scene with the sun coming up over the horizen legit looked like I was looking at the sun. (In the best possible way)
 
Deal just ended, 55" ks8000 just went back up to $929.

Strangely, the 65" ks8000 & ks8500 are still on sale for $1279 and $1249 though, so there are still good deals available.

I'm just saying, if your set has a few bad pixels that are annoying to you then Samsung isn't going to replace the set for you, according to their policy. You can return it within 30 days but you have to pay return shipping and a 15% restocking fee. I'm just saying its probably more convenient to get it from a local retailer like Best Buy, Costco, Wal-Mart etc.. that has a good return policy and you can just take it back if something is wrong.

And I'm not saying ordering direct through Samsung isn't a good thing....you may end up with a perfect set and a great deal. I would just like some peace of mind knowing if I find something annoying then I can return it.
 
65" is the best deal. 4K shines on the largest possible screen. If you have the space get it. The thin bezel makes the televisions as big as the 58" LCD and Plasma of the past that had the giant bezels.

Also, abnormal light bleeding and dead pixels would classify as a defect. Only non defect returns would charge you a restocking fee.

I agree, you should check for that right away and return it if you're not happy with it. I'm just saying if that comes up with Samsung and ordering direct through them you'll have to pay for return shipping + a 15% restocking fee if there are fewer than 7 dead pixels...at least according to their policy.

That being said, I am considering returning the 60" to Costco and getting the 65" direct. I am happy with the KS8000 so it's just a matter of getting a good set and hopefully I have no issues.

Hey Art did you get it? I was rooting for you, which, by the way, is opposite of what I'd normally do. But lately, I've been trying this thing where I do the exact opposite of everything I'd normally do. So far, it's working out great. Best idea I've ever had.

Edit: got a "Complete your registration" email a little later, and just now I was able to go to a link that let me successfully update my password, so I think I can actually log into my account normally now.

KS8000 owners; how is the screen uniformity on your sets (clouding and light bleed), is the ghosting/blur as bad as some say, and how obvious is the judder issue?

I need a new TV to last me a couple of years, before going all out on a Panasonic OLED, and KS8000 is one of my options, along with LG B6.
 
What's the go to option for Full array backlighting? 60" or higher

And why aren't people waiting for Black Friday? Is there no "good time of year" to wait to buy a tv anymore?

There really isn't. Near black Friday or near the superbowl are generally the times the best TV deals are around generally. However the absolute best deals are never tied to the marketed holidays and haven't been for years.

The best FALD sets are Sony ZD9 and Panasonic DX900 (Europe only).

And then you have the OLED sets, of course.
 
I can't help but feel I'm going to be missing out big time by not having a KS8000. I only have a 'budget' UE40KU6000. I'm not going to enjoy the Pro on this as much as I thought I was.
 
Ended up grabbing a KS9500 65 inch. First time going 4k so im probably pretty impressionable but damn the color and the way even older non HDR games look. Super impressed.

What Sony?

Either way, the KS8000 and B6 are both good sets, so it kind of depends on what's the most important to you. If input lag is major factor for you, for instance, go with the Samsung. If it doesn't matter that much, and you want the best picture quality, go with the OLED.

Had a look at some TVs in John Lewis. Not a great help as being a Sunday it was busy and they didn't have any remote controls out to play with. An assistant tried to persuade me on the merits of the Sony XD93 talking about contrast and black levels (good start), and even set up the same feed on the XD85 next to it to compare - pointing out lack of detail in shadows and lack of brightness on some knives (sushi preparation demo clip). Which is lovely, but I have no idea whether both TVs were actually set up properly so not a fair comparison.

My wife did say 'I don't think we can fit a 55" can we?' - to which I casually mentioned I think there are ways to do it. She then asked why I was thinking about this now, and I replied about 4K content slowly being more available. Seeds nicely planted I think..let the slow burn begin. Next step is to talk about reworking the living room TV unit to open things up a bit and let the speakers be more easily heard...with the side effect of now having space for a 55" set ;)

TBH in a bright store environment, showing carefully shot slow motion demo footage they all looked good. The xd800 has some decent reviews and lower input lag so although it probably has slightly worse blacks/contrast I expect I'd be happy enough with it.

Looking forward to DBT85's impressions about input lag on the XD93. That might sway me.

Granted, I sell Samsung TVs for a living, but the KS9800 has full array and I think it looks incredible.
 
I am shocked that there has not been one post on the Vizio P tv. which seems to have amazing specs, is cheaper, and is coming out with a update to make the input lag in the 30 range
 
Hey guys,

I bought a Sony X850D 4K HDR TV recently and I'm really happy with it, but yesterday when I played Last of Us in HDR, I noticed that the TV gets brighter as soon as there are subtitles on the screen.

I haven't had a chance to look in the options so I was wondering if someone could tell me where to turn that off. I assume it's something like auto-brightness ?

Does this mean the best suggestion is to wait then? Until OLED response time goes down? Will it ever?

I only buy a TV every five years or so, I don't upgrade often. Heia heia!
 
Is the deal for the ks8000 still available? I'm a little leery about Samsung TVs as my current one had the panel replaced 4 times but has this weird issue where bright white pixels show up (about 30) in the top right corner. But this TV seems worth the jump.

is there a local dimming option? Try turning that down. But for pretty much all edge-lit TVs you'll get some haloing with white on black content as the TV tries to light up just that section but doesn't have enough zones so ends up lighting the surrounding area too.
