Why isn't education on equal footing as foreign policy, health care and the economy in terms of the agenda during these elections? Everyone has experience with the education system in the US, and most likely everyone has a strong opinion on how it can improve.

Is education a State responsibility?

Australian here. How long until we'll likely know the winner?

My dad sent me, my brother, my sister, and my step brothers and sister's this text message tonight; this is a Man I once viewed as smart.

"I want to share my [verbal diarrhea] with each of you ...

By any chance is he a baby boomer? That message reeks of their rotting carcass.

If my dad sent me this kind of crap, I would, without hesitation or hyperbole, tell him to fuck himself and get back to me when he's started using his brain again to critically examine facts and make decisions. Obviously my family situation is going to be very different than yours, so YMMV.

Why does this offend people so much? Isn't this just going off of the fact that both are the most disliked candidates in recent memory?

Hillary is disliked because she's running for office. Give her a year and only the deplorables will hate her.

Candidates in the past have all told the American people how much a jar of their frozen semen costs why won't you

He will disclose the cost of his semen as soon as I finish auditing it.

*snip*

This is only slightly related, but I will never, ever understand anybody who genuinely believes that any President will "rob them of their freedoms" and/or "destroy the constitution". Like, folks, if that ever actually happened, said President would either be cock-blocked by Congress immediately or would be impeached within two fucking seconds regardless of what party they were. That's how our system works, there are checks and balances in place to prevent the President from becoming a tyrannical dictator should they ever wake up one morning with the desire to do so.

I just cannot wrap my head around how narrow and insular a view of the way our democracy works these people must have if they think the President can just waltz right into office and light the constitution on fire and wipe their ass with the Bill of Rights.

If nothing else, Trump getting as far as he has should be PLENTY evidence of the "holes" in the American education system.

Fix them holes Murica!

Also, can't wait for this to be over tomorrow, gon' be eating popcorn ALL DAMN DAY.

At least Trump's base is fairly limited. It's still largely white men, a good majority of whom are voting for Trump because they happen to be pissed off by the system.

It's very telling of who paid attention in/showed up for/actually received American Government class.

Ironically, the people who want Trump and a Congress that will do whatever he wants would likely be responsible for reductions of freedom and constitutional violations. Freedom of Press? Hello, new libel laws! Geneva Convention? That's very long, who has time to read the whole thing?

Because some of us have our fucking rights at stake in this election and don't see it as a fucking joke. But I guess that's nothing and I shoudn't care that Trump wants to appoint judges like Scalia to the Supreme Court, which would result in the repeal of Obergefell v Hodges so people such as myself no longer have the freedom to marry who we want? No, they're both the same and it's four years of hell no matter who wins...

(And before you go both sides on that as well, Obama also took time to endorse same sex marriage. Hillary and Obama both took time because the national support wasn't there at the time so as national politicians they had to hedge their bets and weren't able to reveal their views until the tide changed at the national level. But either way, they both evolved, and that's a good thing. And if it's really so easy to just say it and "pander" then why can't Trump say it as well? Why is the most he can say on the matter is his RNC speech where he said he feels we shouldn't be killed by terrorists and... that's about it? And instead picks Mike Pence as his running-mate who has a particular history with the community and made no attempt to fight the anti-LGBT stuff that was attempted to be put into the Republican party platform and only gave a fuck about giving military aid to Ukraine? If it's so easy to say it and pander, then why didn't he do even that much? Maybe because Hillary ain't actually pandering because it ain't that easy to pander on an issue like that unless it's something you really truly believe and agree with after all and maybe she did evolve and that ain't such a bad thing and she really is the only candidate who gives a fuck about this issue and our rights? But I digress... Back to what I was saying...)

That's why it offends me. It presupposes that stuff like that doesn't matter and that people won't be meaningfully effected, regardless of who wins. If you don't have anything at stake, that's great! I mean that seriously and sincerely. That's wonderful and that type of security is something I wish that everyone across the country could share in. But in that case, if that's indeed the case for you, defer to those of us that do have something at stake here and who this election actually will have meaningful consequences for, and for whom there is only one clear choice and only one that will leads to decades more of hell for us due to Supreme Court picks.

But do go on about both sides and how they're both the same. It's so riveting. If you seriously can't get how that offends the heck out of people such as myself, I better never hear you call yourself an ally or any such thing cause just damn, son... Damn.

(EDIT: And yes, I'm quite aware of who I'm replying to here and his history and how if I'm correct MIMIC is voting for Hillary and I'm quite appreciative of that fact. This is more just in general aimed at people who hold the "both sides" point of view and don't get why that's offensive to those of us such as the LGBT community, not you specifically MIMIC--just using your post as a convenient launching point to get this all out of my system, since I really need to right now. Hope you understand! ^^)

Great post.

In less than 24 hours I will know if I can sleep well or if I have to start wondering if the country that I've called home since I was 7 years old is going to want to deport me.

Education I feel should be at a more local level TBH

It's a dangerous and illogical standpoint, especially in this very straightfoward case. No one is saying you can't find flaws in both candidates, but to equate Hillary's to Trump's own issues is straight up moronic.

I don't think anyone is saying rights don't matter. They're just saying the candidates are far from being the best.

Like if say Joe Biden ran a campaign and it trounced both Sanders and Hillarys, would people still be wrong for favoring him? He would still be a democrat and appoint liberal judges so there would be no loss of rights.

Its more like saying I have been offered McDonald's for dinner or a pile of dog shit. Dont really like either one, both have flaws. Sad!
