Hard to believe we're only 8 years removed from Bush. Feels like a lifetime ago.
If you told me a few years ago that my first vote ever in a presidential election would be for Hillary Clinton, I would have been in complete disbelief. Yet here we are. I've owned up to my mistakes on the past on GAF and I'm glad that I got my shit together long before it became time to make the right decision. I will say it again: I was flat out wrong about Hillary, influenced by the viewpoints of both Conservative and Liberal (Bernie) friends to see her as the terribly false portrayal that has been pushed since the 90's. Without GAF, I may have held the same viewpoint today and thrown away my vote.
While CT will go Blue regardless, local elections are a whole other level. My town is very conservative to the point where I saw a huge Trump sign along with a House candidate outside the polling place. There was a surprising voter ID requirement that didn't hurt me at all but could harm many others.
Even if Hillary wins in a landslide, that is not where the true battle is. Even if the Senate is turned Blue, things aren't over by a long shot. It begins on the smallest of levels. If you are considering not voting, reconsider. Too much is at stake.
I'm not standing in line for 4 hours to vote. Fuck that

Where are you getting the live results? I'm trying to find a good one besides this livecaster site.
Whoa, that's neat. One of our attorneys is located in VB, I'm going to see if she did it there.
I'll be visiting a school on my way home from work today. Very anxious. I live in a very red area of VA (just outside Richmond), and it wouldn't surprise me if there are some nutters around.
Ranking these candidates, I just don't know how I can choose the lesser of two evils in this race. They are all so terrible.
- Stein - A Russian stooge, who has little knowledge of how the Government works, obsessed with conspiracy theory, and not currently living in this reality.
- Johnson - he's not explicitly bad, but he is ignorant in many areas.
- Trump - A Russian stooge, who has little knowledge of how the Government works, obsessed with conspiracy theory, and not currently living in this reality.
- Clinton - Sent and received emails.
How will I decide?
I voted.
Took all of about 3 minutes. Gated community having its own polling place for residents FTW.

That's what the Republicans want. They purposefully have made it hard for the populace to vote.
Vote by mail does sound like the best system.
But...
You are viable. Trump fundamentally disagreed eith decades of Republican policy on trade. Bernie got far with a platform that differed significantly from the Usual Democrat platform -- AND ended up changing said platform multiple ways.
I saw the Florida one on CNN.
Any of you states still doing polling stations need to get vote-by-mail.. the best way to vote is having it mailed to you and doing it in the privacy of your own home.
I voted weeks ago for fuck's sake.
She also voted for the Iraq war and is up the ass of wall street. Two things that helped push Obama past her in 08. She supports trade deals and takes money, I mean donations, from shitty corporations and countries.
I voted for her, but she is a lesser of two evils.
Bring a burrito.
But seriously more people should vote early. And states that don't offer early voting should be forced to. It's unfair to have such a huge decision that can only be made on one day between certain hours. Especially unfair those with lower income jobs who can't easily get time off or don't get long lunch breaks where they could go vote.
The Bush years were the end of reasonable Republicans. I know a lot of people on GAF feel differently but after Obama came we had the creation of the Tea Party and the Republican party just went downward from there.
Romney lost and the Republicans had this come to Jesus moment about trying for the Latino vote. You can see how well that went.
I don't know how to take this post.
She supports trade deals??
Oh no! What shall we do with all this trading with other countries? Gross!

Obama as a human being represented me. His calmness, his intelligence, his values represented me. They were easy to see through all the politics. Then he gets in office and you see that even as great as a person he is, the office of President is not enough to instill great values into all the people of this country. I truly believe the party system has become a problem, it's too simple for the complex problems that face this country.
Is anyone concerned about Hillary foreign policy? It's gold compared to trumps. But she wants things like a no fly zone over Syria, and was ways a big supporter of the war in Iraq, honestly that's the biggest thing worrying me, I don't want war.
Didn't know US was part of the EU.Who's ready for Brexit++?
Ugh.
I don't know how to take this post.
Unrelated, I waited about 45 minutes this morning. Got there at ~5:45 AM. Voted then went for breakfast with the wife before we headed off to work. Not a bad morning!
You're really soft-pedaling Clinton's faults.
Don't forget she also "seems insincere"
Yep, from Fairfield County though to be fair my home town is also part of the Valley, which leans toward the right.Which county are you in? I grew up in Fairfield County and only left a few years ago but there was nothing like this in place there when I left.
She supports trade deals??

Ugh.
I'm in Virginia Beach. Get to vote in the Museum of Contemporary Art which is pretty cool.

Unfortunately I feel this is a liberal thing more than conservative and why liberals cannot win down ticket. Because if Clinton isn't representing you on a personal level (even if policy does), how is any senator or literally anyone else that doesn't have half the exposure going to? Obama endorsed the hell out of Clinton. If you liked Obama I don't understand why she doesn't get your vote
So instead you vote against the system entirely, all but ensuring a trump victory in your area even. You think your state is a lock for trump, and it definitely always will be if younger people do protest votes while older people that have been around the block to know that doesn't do shit continue the steady republican vote
You should spend the rest of the day trying to find 5 people to vote Hillary and get them to the pollsWell as the dust settles it's pretty depressing to do the math and realize my immediate family contributed a -5 to the sanity vote. In a swing state.
Tonight, I'll probably drink a bit.
It's blatant fact. Republicans have been very openly against ease of access with voting. They have closed down many areas, require ridiculous hoops of proof of residency (I for example had to go back and forth 3 times last year despite having proof qualifications each time. polling place is also run by racist old white ladies), made it sometimes outright impossible for minorities to obtain ID proof in the first place, limit early-voting options, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
Republicans are one of the biggest reasons to blame for long voting lines.
CNN said:Appearing on AM Tampa Bay on 970 WFLA, Trump was asked if he'll contest the results if they are close.
"Well if I think there's something that was wrong," Trump said. "Did you notice, when I brought this up a few months ago, Obama, and others said, 'oh, this is the foundation of our country' but eight years ago, he was was basically saying that Chicago is rigged. I don't know if you saw that clip. But he talks up, like, 'oh, this is the foundation how dare he question the foundation' and all of this. Oh, give me a break. What' going on in Philadelphia and Chicago and St. Louis and lots of others, for years it's legendary OK, talked about for years. They have a clip of Obama basically saying that Chicago elections are rigged. And I say to myself, 'can you believe that?'
