You know how many death threats Obama got for being the first black President? He's still kicking. The real threats to the President are from people who don't openly advertise their intentions online for all to see,

That, and all of these people posting it openly and publicly are probably (definitely) immediately under surveillance to a certain degree. I'm not saying they're being tailed or anything but you can bet the NSA is checking their shit.

Anyway, just wanna say, relating to earlier discussion about couples and different voting. I'm in Canada with a French Canadian gf who's lived here her whole life. Not getting married because we don't believe in it/care, but we've been together for 8 years and are having a kid soon. We're life partners. Just laying that out there because I know some ppl don't think a relationship is 'real' unless you're husband and wife. Anyway, I absentee voted. I was born in NYC and grew up there. Dual citizenship. She was curious about this election, it's getting way more attention than most, even Obama's first. At least up here in Quebec.

So I laid out a bunch of facts, showed both sides, and let her do her own searching. I had no doubt which side she'd pick, but I didn't wanna influence anything either way. I was right, of course, and she's absolutely fucking horrified that people could vote Trump, as is every single other person I know both up here and down there. Lucky me.

Point is, I'd have some serious issues with my significant other voting for someone like Trump. It's not even that they have political differences. We don't agree on everything (on most, though) and I can totally handle and respect that... but this shit? Fuck that'd be a game changer. I'd question so much. How can you not know your partner enough to know she/he would vote Trump when you think he's vile? That doesn't even make sense to me. Our bond is so strong, it trumps (haha, intended) direct family. That's just who we are, and have been, since we first started really dating. I like to believe most couples are as solid, and many we frequent regularly are, but I'm seeing now that it's absolutely not the case. Don't know how I'd handle it all, tbh. Especially if you already have kids. Fuck that's rough, finding out that shit about someone so late in the game...

my god i would absolutely love to deal with some voter intimidation when i go vote in a few hours. i seriously cannot believe people have the fucking nerve to do that. assholes.

My parents and I early voted for Hillary here in Texas. My parents are pretty staunchly republican and don't like Obama by any means but thankfully they never bought into the shit Trump was spewing. (My mother is hispanic lmao)

I know they still voted republican for senate congress etc. and barring a Trump 2.0 in 2020 they'd go straight R again next presidential election, but it's nice to see my parents not being blind supporters of that asshole.

This is how my parents are (also Texas). Went Obama in 08 because they were outraged by Palin, then back to Romney, now to Hillary because of Trump. I don't know how he finally came down, but apparently even my 90-something Republican Texan grandpa was considering Hillary because Trump was a bridge too far. Grandma's a dedicated Trumper though.

Sounds like folk wisdom not based on any evidence. I doubt that you would be really all that surprised if some online nutjob went on to carry out an actual assassination.

The reason that we haven't seen that very much yet is because assassinations are relatively infrequent and social media is still pretty new. The reason that Obama is still safe probably has more to do with the see Secret Service.

Nutjobs who post their intentions online for all to see are monitored and tracked- very easy to do nowadays. The real threats are people who don't advertise what they plan to do.

Honestly, I'm not worried about a threat to the President's life. I'd be more concerned that this election will lead to armed riots on certain parts of the nation. The last thing America needs right now is another Oregon situation, but on a more widespread scale.

Going to vote shortly, will report back if there's any dudes "casually" hanging around with AR-15s at the voting place.

...who am I kidding, there probably will be considering people brought their AR-15s with them to the Trunk-or-Treating the town had on Halloween. You know, a nice family event full of little kids running around, seems the perfect place to bring your rifle.

this is stupid. i would just pretend i'm a trump supporter to get past this nonsense. then on my way out make sure i have my #imwithher sticker on lol

Hell no, I'd start a 'HILLARY! HILLARY!' chant as I walked by them laughing. I'd also probably stop and take pictures like this person did.

If "pro-life", which is like not even an issue anymore, is more important to them than basic decency for all Americans of all genders and races and religions, then yes, they are deplorable and fuck'em. If they are "not racist" but have no problem casting a vote for someone who is racist, and knowingly enabling and empowering a platform that will make life harder for minorities, then again, yes they are deplorable and fuck'em.

I see no distinction in the examples you've given. Anybody who wants to be able to vote for the racist bigot but not be seen as a racist bigot themselves can fuck off.

This!

Previous post was a perfect description of White privilege.
