I am a Pakistani born person

hahahahahahahaha im so fucking full of hate and fear right now

my parents didn't dip the fuck out of my home country to come to this

its just funny because the people affected by this arent even the ones who are still white and straight but voted for hillary, yall are still safe. Minorities are so fucked. And to everyone who didnt call out a racist friend that supported this hateful disgusting piece of shit, go fuck yourself.

While I certainly am in a better place than you, being white and straight doesn't mean this doesn't affect me.

1. I'm Union. Right now, my pension (which I haven't even locked in yet) is in jeopardy, as is my career. I've been to a non-Union state, and I don't see how people can sustain themselves and feel secure that they can work most of the year. I can't afford to lose this and do school again in hopes to regain my footing.

2. Type 1 Diabetic. Obamacare is a bit of a mess, but there were great elements to it. Be covered under a parent/guardian till your 26 and being rid of preexisting condition clauses namely. While the former no longer applies, the latter very much does. If I have to change work due to the likely expansion of the path set by Right to Work, I now have to hope I have several thousand in savings and pray no actual emergencies take place in those 6 to however many months.

And forget having a potential child that inherits my condition going to college. They'll be too busy working who knows where for ungodly hours to have insurance to make life at least livable.

There's probably more in store than just that, but those are the guaranteed paths set by Trump, Pence, and the overall GOP.

Anyway, this wasn't meant to take away from the very clear and frightening plight you and other folks are facing from a controlling party whose stance is of hatred and ignorance. Just figured it may benefit to know that even privilege means jack shit for some of us under a total Republican government.

So realistically, how much can they fuck up in 4 years?

538 not looking good:

President
61% Chance
Trump wins
37% Chance
Clinton wins
2% Chance of no Electoral College victory
Senate
8% Chance
Reps win
18% Chance
Dems win
Expected electoral votes
Clinton Trump
261.2 276.1

It's actually worse. They're not counting FL yet (which Trump will win)

Absolutely agree. The sense of liberal smugness that we've seen for the past few years, the silencing tactics that we've seen deployed, the whole notion that they're right because they say they're right...I think all of that is coming home to roost right now. This is America saying no, we reject that.

...you're saying that misogyniy, racism, Islamophobia, etc. deserved a different reaction than scorn? We're not talking about people just expressing different opinions, here. We're talking about things like a certain subset of the population believing the president was a African-born terrorist sleeper cell, for one example. It's not smug to say that beliefs like that are factually and morally wrong.

It is wholly unfair to equate Trumps potential win to racism and that all his voters are racist. This kind of extreme rhetoric is exactly was alienated many voters from the middle and pushed them towards Trump. Same with the media constantly bashing of him.
The sooner people realise this the better.

Sadly, this is the lesson I don't think anyone will learn. There were real people on the end of that voting machine, not a bunch of 4chan memes.

Fuck this.

God I hate straight white people...

And this doesn't help anything. This thread is just turning gross in a lot of ways, and I'm surprised its being allowed to happen.

Being upset is one thing but we are getting blanket statements no better than the type of bull shit that Trump spews

Live in Michigan. I saw very few young voters today which is always worrisome, but the state overall seems to have gotten more conservative over the past 4 years.

I'd bet that if our governor (Flint Water Crisis Guy) Snyder ran again, he'd probably win just because he's republican.

I'm going to go on a long rant here and I'm sure in this fast moving thread no one will read it, but it's going to be at least a little cathartic. I'm also going to put this forum on blast a bit.

You know, I'm just going to take a moment to say that some of us tried to warn so many of you. The whole "social justice warrior" online movement or whatever you want to call it that this forum in particular has come to be dominated by. Shame and spite do not do anything to help one's cause.

Unrepentantly calling all white people racists and bigots and sexists and misogynists is what brought this on. I've joked on here about voting for and supporting Trump, but god knows I never actually did. But I've always been able to at least sympathize with those "deplorables" for the blatant hypocrisy on the left when it comes to all of those social issues that dominate social media these days.

too many people on the left, and on GAF especially, remind me of the conservatives in the years following 9/11 under Bush. Everything was viewed through a polarizing, black and white filter. You are either with us or with the terrorists. You are either a ____ist or you're not.

You can't demonize and shame people and expect they'll agree with you. They'll only dig their heels in further, especially if they feel attacked.

This is some real truth here, folks:
All the people who are very likely or even (ugh) probably going to put Donald fucking Trump in the White House tonight are not voting because they hate women or blacks or mexicans or whoever else. I'm also not saying that the hatred isn't a factor, because it's been shown repeatedly that at least on some level it's an animating force for all of this... but people are complex animals but you've turned them into cartoon villains and stereotypes without every trying to understand them or why they actually feel the way they do.

Polarization is bad. The right has been polarized for a long time, but now the left is too, and it's biting them back hard tonight. If Trump wins and has the House and Senate behind him, this is literally the end of America as we know it and the beginning of a new BRIC nation world alignment. That's really fucking bad.

I half agree. I agree that liberals should take a more nuanced and empathetic approach to dealing with conservatives, but no way this is what caused Trump to win. Trump won because he stands for something the majority of Americans apparently want.

I have to go sleep for work tomorrow. But I Can't. I have to know what happens.

Trump can't win. He cant! He cant.

No!!

This is a nightmare guys. A god damned nightmare.

Here's hoping Trump doesn't absolutely destroy the US economy or social programs over the next four years. Wait...this is Trump we are talking about. We'll be lucky if we don't get into a war with some country over something he says on Twitter.

Trump gets Utah now!

and Ohio has picked every president since 1964 ;)

Fingers Crossed!

Honestly...there are good things i like about both candidates, I just feel Trump will be a much better President and lots of folks feel the same, no doubt.

You don't shame the obese into losing weight. You don't shame alcoholics to go sober. You don't shame drug addicts into going clean. You don't shame the poorly educated to study. Shaming only causes people to become defensive and double down. Liberals tried to shame the country into not voting Trump, and this is where its led them.

Cosigned. Liberals have been doing this for a bit and they keep getting their teeth punched.

Weirdly, liberals attacked religion for these same very tactics they now employ with gusto.

This loss will sting, but I do hope the DNC learns from this.

Well this is depressing. Thankfully, I get over things fairly quickly.

The next few years are going to crazy, however.

I wonder if some of that will tone down online after this. I think Hillary hurt herself a lot with the "deplorables" and by stoking the fires of calling anyone who wanted to stick with their party despite disliking the nominee a racist/sexist/misc negative label.

I dont know what the next 4 years will bring but we need to come together and stop being insulated and hating everyone who doesn't agree with us.

There's not a human being without fault or mistakes. Every single one of us have skeletons in our closet that we are ashamed of. The thing with Drumpf is that while he might stick his foot in his mouth, at least he keeps it real, more real than any other politician of recent years.

This is why Drumpf has such a HUGE following and the votes prove that, no doubt. People want change, people are tired of the same old same old. Drumpf has the backbone and insight to change this economy!!!

GO DRUMPF!!!

I guess throwing the country economy to the lowest ever, get more debt than ever, fuck up everyone that lives there, having bankrupcy everywhere, does qualify as a "change", so there's that.
