So basically suburban soccer Moms would rather vote for a racist who commits sexual assault than Hillary Clinton

This is just perfect for how this nation collapses

Jokes on them when their hubby's retirement money disappears tomorrow

Are people actually crying or disgusted with people just because of Trump? I've seen posts about people being scared for any of their non-white / LBGT friends...the states arent going to turn into some crazy violent free for all place in the event he does win...

I mean I know, online overexaggeration as usual, but jeez.

There's real potential for social and cultural damage here. This is validating people who signed on with Trump because they see themselves as part of a culture war to take their country back as a white nationalist christian nation. Attacks on minorities went up in Britain after Brexit. America is a culture full of guns and a stew of various fringe and extreme psychoses. Yes, there is real danger here.

Police organizations signed on with Trump. The police themselves.

Why wouldn't people be afraid? Why wouldn't people who ARE minorities be having panic attacks, when they are people who already have crosshairs on them in many cases? I'm a gay man. Three stout young white men once tried to kill me for only suspecting I'm gay. Others have threatened me.

Trump is a man who built his campaign on saying things like he has the back of people who physically attack his enemies and critics.

Really retarded to hear all those delusional people hoping that, after giving out their vote to Donald Trump, They will have their backwards lifestyle and jobs back, "taken away" from them by "the elite"/"the 1%", etc.. I hope they choke with all those state's protectionism and cherished American white privilege they were yearning for decades, of course, given Donald Trump and Republican congress actually deliver all this crap as promised, although I found that pretty unlikely, like that ludicrous promised bigger wall. All lies just to entice braindead discontent.

And myJapanese auntie warned me about American rampant racism, didn't want to believe her, I thought She was exaggerating. I still think isn't more racist than other countries, like Japan or China, but this Trump victory, well.... It just doesn't tell much about American progress over these issues.

You got your country back whatever the Fuck that means. Our only hope is that somehow Trump ends up being more liberal than we all think.

Fuck me :/

It's gonna be 8 years of Trump, let's be real.

I can't really see it. Honestly I'll be "impressed" if Trump makes it through his first term without a monumental, potentially world-altering fuckup.

But who knows what he will end up doing, the man is an unpredictable compulsive liar that hasn't shown any evidence of having any sort of meaningful plan for this country.

Polarization is the worst thing about U.S. politics. You're either a diehard lover of Hillary, or you're a (according to some posters in this thread) a racist piece of "human garbage".

No. Either you vote for the racist, or you don't.

Polarization happened because one side made racism a part of its strategy, and at no point did that deserve to be treated with the legitimacy that it got.

Relatively well off Canadian here looking for people who want into Canada as my wife/husband. Please put together a resume and portfolio of your looks and accomplishments...

Really though, as a Canadian looking in this whole thing is bizarre. It feels surreal as an outsider, I can't imagine what it must feel like for so many americans. Best of luck out there. Keep your head up.

I think this potential loss is a reflection of the disdain of Hillary Clinton more than anything else....why didn't Biden run. He would have crushed Trump.

ACA is dead. People with pre existing condition will now not get healthcare. Don't have money? Tough shit. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, if you can even stand up. Potential for Medicare to be turned into a voucher program.

Immigration reform is dead. Some form of increased border presence will absolutely happen. Even if it is just an expensive ineffectual wall. Deportations of some measure will happen. Anti-immigrant sentiment will become more accepted and normalized. If you are hispanic you are going to have a rough time. Muslim? Good luck.

Conservative SC for a generation or more. Expect to see more rulings in the vein of Citizens United. Corporations will be cemented as people and they have more money and power than you. Oh and forget about restoring the VRA. Voter suppression of minorities will continue throughout the country. Gay marriage is probably unlikely to be affected but negative rulings against transgender rights may be common place at least at the state level. Republican gerrymandering will continue further cementing control across the country.

Foreign policy wise expect the US to get more heavily entangled in the middle east and a George W. Bush level x 100 of general disrespect toward our allies. Also expect to see a level of nationalist fervor unprecedented in American politics. Putin will be given free reign. We will also see unnecessary and potentially massive increases in military spending. Potential is also here for American forces to support goals that more align with Putin's than the overall wishes of NATO. Any hopes for "small" government will be eradicated by money thrown away in foreign entanglements.

As for the economy Trump is not going to help working class people in places like Michigan. Their jobs are not coming back. The Republican party will not spend the money necessary to help them retrain and enter new fields. Creating a green manufacturing industry was one possible way for this happen. It won't. Trump believes global warming is a conspiracy created by the Chinese.

Taxes will be cut drastically for the 1%. This will further exacerbate the divide between the rich and poor. There will not be an increase in the minimum wage. Government will continue to subsidize the wages of companies like Walmart with food stamps, medicaid and other welfare programs. The people that voted Trump will be the ones most affected by this and they will just blame minorities. Many will also now go without healthcare as the ACA will be destroyed, leaving those that qualified for medicaid or subsidized care without options. They will just blame minorities and many will blame Obamacare long after its dead.

As far as the American political climate Trump's election will make the white nationalist candidate commonplace. You will see many mini-Trumps at the state level across the nation. Qualifications for office like experience in law or politics on some level will now be considered as not required. Celebrities will more likely to run and more likely to win. The American people will reward Republicans for a functioning government not caring that the only reason it is functioning is that Republicans are in full control and no longer obstructing everything.

Following this in 2020 America will re-elect Donald Trump

fuck my life

If you're a white male, life's gonna be good.

It's the rest of us that are gonna suffer.

Nah.
A bad US president affects everyone in the world. I'm a white male living in France and I'm fucking depressed right now. Obviously, minorities in America are the ones who are going to suffer the most but this is bad news for everyone.

Bernie Sanders would have destroyed him, now we're stuck with this clown for 4 years.

Just imaging him making a State of the Union Address.

The world is laughing at us right now.

Best case scenario now is that Trump does such a terrible job over the next two years that we get an obstructionist Democratic House and Senate in 2018 to hold us over until we can vote him out in 2020.

The positive that can be taken from this is that America survives the next 4 years, the GOP controlled government runs everything into the ground and shits the bed badly and publicly. In the meantime the DNC cleans house, learn very hard lessons and liberals get their shit together and stop being complacent and come back strong in 4 years.

Looks like Trump pulled off the unprecedented. This is so crazy. Such a crazy year. Even as a conservative leaning Christian I'm rather unenthused about Trump. I mean, I respect the decision of the country, and he is not Hillary, but still... So wild.
