As much as countries always talk about environmental protection, I hate to break it to you. They don't give a shit. I can't tell you how many large companies up here have had environmental fines and levies waved on breaking a number of environmental laws.

I blame the DNC. I remember the polls showing general election match up during the primary of Clinton barely winning a national poll against Trump, and Bernie winning by 15%.
At the end of the day, the DNC and democratic primary voters figured the most unlikable democratic candidate they could have run was a better choice than literally the most popular Senator in the country.
There is a wave of populist anger. People hate the Washington insiders who hobnob with Wall Street billionaires and have entire conversations where all they do is say "Indubitably" at each other for hours on end. The DNC wanted to force feed that to the American public and the country just wants to throw a political molotov cocktail at those people. Sadly, everyone is going to be getting burned in the process.
I'm not the biggest fan of TYT, but I agree with Cenk's analysis on why people vote. People care about two things when they get into the voting booth: Do I like you? And Do you project strength? Is it right? No. Is it a smart way to vote? No. But that's reality. People don't have time to figure out what's the best marginal tax rate for this bracket and the intricacies of business regulations. They expect you to figure that out. Not tell them about it.
At the end of the day people don't like Clinton. And when she campaigns around the country saying "Boy I can't wait to work with Republicans they're so right about everything" you look weak.
Do people like Trump? No. Does he at least project strength? yes. He checks one more box than Clinton does.
On the other hand, people DID like Bernie. And his unapologetic liberal proposals project strength.

I honestly think Bernie would have done much better. A vast majority of people hate both Hillary and Trump. Who hates Bernie?

This seems partly right. The trade deals which make a nation richer create winners and losers within society. Standard political rhetoric for these deals almost always ignores the losers. He spoke to them directly and acknowledged what they have seen for years as their hometowns fell into economic disarray and opioid use grew - these deals made other people rich and left you behind.
That's why the anti-establishment candidates will keep winning. The establishment has been communicating through rose coloured PR speaking remarks for decades.
