I am never trusting polls or smug gaffers ever again.

I feel so fucking stupid. Trump supporters were right all along.

We underrated the tenacity of bigots to come out in massive numbers to offset minoirties, no doubt, and just how willing the party was to fall in line.

Here's the story of why people:

Such a low turnout is probably why the polls got it wrong.
It will be interesting to see the race breakdowns too.
Did the 'black' vote that Obama brought out just not get enthused as the latino vote in Nevada?
We'll find out when the full numbers become available.

I see sentiments like this a lot, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall Trump ever disparaging LGBT or implying he would do anything to harm social progress in that sphere.

Pence supports conversion therapy.

And Trump will appoint anti-gay marriage justices to the supreme court. Gay marriage will be dead eventually.

Since 8 years of Obama's decency seemingly didn't rub well with so many in the US, I can only hope that on the other hand that 4+ years of Trump indecency won't have too bad an effect on people and the social culture in the US either :/

Don't know what else to say really. The whole thing seems like a big question mark now? How is this administration really going to shape up?

Shit, I need some member berries right now.

I really hope that somehow it wont affect the poorest/minorities too much, but after this year so far its difficult to stay positive.

Donald Trump isn't going to start a world war.

No his impact is much more insidious and long term. This is something that's going to eat at our country for the next fifty years.

But he's not gonna start a world war.

He doesn't have to start a world war. Bush started and didn't win or end 2 wars. Think about all the lives lost. Donald Trump is a trigger happy, thin skinned idiot with republicans empowering him.

United Arab Emirates prime minister official twitter:
We offer our congratulations and best wishes both to President Elect Donald Trump and to the American people.
We look forward to share our message of hope, peace , tolerance and development for a better world.

Some of you seriously overestimate / worst case scenario what's going to happen. It's the same thing as 8 years ago, when everyone said Obama would take our guns, or whatever. Obama couldn't even shut Guantanamo, and we're still bombing 8 (last I checked) countries. In 4 years, it'll still be the same broken America, and not much will be different. We have a [broken] two party system, and it's going to switch back and forth every 8 years or so. Sure, Trump is a fucking idiot, but it's not the first time we've had a fucking idiot in the Oval Office. We'll survive. Trump isn't going to outlaw abortion, or criminalize gay marriage any more than Obama was going to take our guns or convert us to some muslim/communist dystopia.

Until we start putting up candidates that both sides think are stand up individuals, we're going to continue to have race to the bottom politics where everyone is scared to death of the opposing candidate. This is a perfect example of where the road of voting for the lesser of two evils gets us... the bottom of the barrel.

This is how democracy works. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you win. In a broken two party system thick with corruption, I'd argue we always lose. Democracy hasn't failed, it's succeeded. Unfortunately, democracy just isn't everything we were promised when we were kids. It's ugly, and it's broken, because majority rule is ugly and broken.

Trump isn't going to outlaw abortion, that's most certainly true. Republicans are going to use the next four years to defund the shit out of Planned Parenthood and basically shut down abortion clinics in every single state they possibly can by passing restrictions that make them unable to operate.

The real issue here is that Republicans over the last 8 years have done a fantastic job of figuring out how to disenfranchise people and take away rights without explicitly saying that they're doing so. The only thing that has stopped them is the President and the Supreme Count. And now one of those things is gone. Lord help us all if one of the liberal justices has to step down in the next 4 years.

What a horrible night this has been. I am truly disappointed and disgusted with America tonight.

I'll never give up hope, but as the years tick by (I'm 37 now), and shit continues to stay the same, the harder it is for me to keep my head up high. What a sad day for America, as I said in the other thread. President Donald J. Trump. Amazing. We did it, America! We did it!

Sigh. Time for another drink!

You know the worst part about this is that he denies climate change.

This is one of the most important issues in the next hundred years as a species. And the most powerful country in the world not only denies it, but also blames it to the second most powerful country in the world as a hoax.

Poor David Attenborough. That interview with Obama he had seemed like there was a movement to combat climate change. Guess it's back to ignoring the problem.

—Rudy as AG.
—Newt as Sec. of State.
—Reince as chief of staff.
—Corey as RNC chief.

It's a nightmare, and you can include Pence in there as well.

And Trump will appoint anti-gay marriage justices to the supreme court. Gay marriage will be dead eventually.

Okay so you know the Supreme Court doesn't magically make rulings a propos of nothing, right? For this to happen, a state would have to pass a ban on same-sex marriage, it would have to be appealed up several courts, get to the Supreme Court, and then this new Supreme Court would have to remove the right. Even if 5 Supreme Court justices in June 2017 wanted to get rid of same-sex marriage, there'd have to be a bunch more factors in place.

I'm still confused as to how the phone polls were so wrong. Do Trump supporters just not answer honestly? Do they not answer the phone at all? Is there an issue with the polling methodology?

This is just such a surprise, his chances were supposedly so slim this morning

All world leaders are pretty much quiet which is unusual given past presidencies.
All far-right political leaders have been the first to congratulate him.
