After everything he has said about and done to people. After what he's said he'll do to people. After all the nonsense he's spoken and non-plans he's given. After the threats he's made about the law's he'll change. After his performance in the debates. After all his bullshit, America gave into hate, anger, and fear and elected him anyway. I'm disappointed and devastated to the point where I just don't believe this has happened.

I really hope we don't have to learn our lesson too harshly.

This will go south quicker than No Man's Sky.

Scottish independence, EU referendum and now this. 3 times I've jumped up first thing in the morning, hurried downstairs, brewed a strong cup of coffee and switched on the BBC news with my fingers crossed.

3 strikes and you're out, so fuck it, I'm out. The idiots are running the asylum.

Well, my condolences, again.

I mean, I am currently still reeling (half past nine in the morning here in good old Germany, I've only had roughly two hours to digest this situation). I know full well that this will come to bite us Germans in the ass as well, just with a bit of a delay. Plus, with the upcoming elections here also gaining some rather unwanted "colour", it's not like we have a good position to post snide remarks about others.

Still, you stupid chucklefucks. Couldn't you have voted for any other clown prior to this one instead? Dammit. It's not like they were better in any way, but they were more of a known mess. This new president of yours is a complete unknown.

That said, when all hope is lost, the mind has finished its first round of boggling, and the hysterical laughter has subsided, I have to admit that he has been voted into office by the majority of the voters. For better or worse, he will be at the helm of the most powerful and influential nation on Earth. So let's hope he doesn't fuck up too badly.

"Hilldawg" completely botching her part in all of this is pretty telling, though. I know it's never fun to openly admit to failure. However, as a presidential candidate you don't get to retreat back and hope to ride it out when things come to the bitter conclusion. I wasn't her biggest fan before, but now even less so.

TLDR: Congratulations to your new president, you fucknuts. Let's hope we will all be able to look back and laugh at all of this one day. I'd love to be wrong about Trump. Absolutely. Maybe he's just a figurehead for an illuminati group or something. Hope springs eternal.

Why? WHY is this a good thing? Why can't anyone answer that.

It's a good thing because we can stop the class warfare, and maybe just get along as fellow Americans.

It's a good thing because we can get rid of this income-redistribution plan called Obamacare, and perhaps bring back some of those many doctors who have been disaffected and left the profession.

It's a good thing for law enforcement, who has been slandered and demonized and assassinated because of the astroturf movement that is Black Lives Matter.

It's a good thing for the national budget, which would go bust with the Democrats' spending and leave our country broken and bankrupt.

It's a good thing because despite what you have been told, half of Hispanics agree that open borders are a problem and that a legal path to citizenship is the only way to be fair to legal immigrants, blacks, and others looking to climb the jobs ladder.

It's a good thing because the president of the United States will not be indebted to foreign countries who have donated handsomely to the Clinton Foundation. U.S. interests will no longer be for sale for the personal enrichment of the Clinton family.

I could go on, but hopefully you will read up on things yourself and come to a more mature understanding of the way the world works, and America's noble place in the international community.

While I hate every dumb fuck who voted for Brexit here in the UK, at least that moronic decision only screws over the UK.

This has global consequences.

Well fucking done, America.

So, in Trump's America would this moment,

only increase his approval ratings?

Fuck everyone who decided not to vote for a "lesser of two evils" because of their fucking principles today. Seriously. You and your goddamn principles are the reason a man who thinks you can electrocute gay people straight is vice president.

BUT EMAILS.

HILLARY CLINTON HAS BEEN PRESIDENT FOR 30 YEARS AND STILL DIDN'T FIX AMERICA.

SHE CONTROLS THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. THAT'S WHY IT WAS RIGGED.......SO SHE.....WOULD WIN........

LOCK HER UP, SHES DISGUSTING.

Seriously though, America is a fucked up country.

The police murder innocent people, say "oops" and thats it.

Tools for murdering humans are worshipped more than any god.

White people started voting in ever increasing numbers after the first black president was elected.

They voted in their greatest numbers when the most openly bigoted and blatant liar of a candidate asked if he could lead them.

All this during a time when all around the world alt-right politicians with a steady focus on blaming all their problems on foreigners and immigrants are on the rise

All the while they're being told to stop talking about the racism like it didn't play a part, or that the people who sympathised with the racists shouldnt be judged because they've got the hump with Ben Ghazis emails.

That's a terrifying prospect for a lot of people right now.

The hotline is an unprecedented (that I'm aware of) move that is amazing, in theory. Trump's plan is to "allow veterans to choose private care in lieu of the VA; increase the number of mental health care professionals; and modernize the VA technologically". Clinton's plan is vaguely similar but without the parts of rewarding good employees and firing incompetent ones (this needs to be done, as a former government employee I know how lazy they can be due to the very strong protections that are enjoyed/abused).

ok so basically the initial reply which was a sort of magnanimous "life goes on thing" is actually just "conservatives are mature and liberals are dumb dumbs"

UKGAF has been at this party for a while now. We might have eaten all the buffet but we've kept the seat warm for you.

I can only hope Trump demoralizes his own supporters by being a moderate, conventional, establishment-friendly president and loses in 4 years. It's the only hope America has.

No. You mean England and Wales. Because even though the scots and northern Irish voted to remain, we get dragged down into something we never voted for purely because we're vastly outnumbered by the English
and the welsh didn't really help either.
. End of.

I didn't vote Leave either, but I have to deal with that. As do the Scotch and the Irish for being part of Britain. That's how it works. Scotland voted to remain as part of Britain not too long ago.

We all have to eat this fucking shit sandwich.

Welp, as a non US-citizen it's gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out. His speech was quite the opposite of what we heard during his entire campaign. Judging by news reports think these two were the worst possible presidential candidates in quite some time so I doubt Hillary would have been a better choice. It's choosing between two evils and time will tell if Trump was the lesser one or not.

When being an optimist backfires. Fucking incredible how many racist bigots exist in this country. I had faith in humanity. I was wrong.

Agreed. One of the most depressing parts of tonight. So many clearly had no issue or weren't willing to let this or his other behaviors stick to him writing it off as just talk or something somehow.
And ofcourse the further delay of things like climate issues that even if we actually started working on would still take ages, with people who don't even believe it's real.

All I saw and read here, on Neogaf, in the last couple of days was: "Bitter tears after the election.... will be great"

And yeah, they were right. These "bitter tears" are glorious.

Yes, truly the most important thing following an election, "loving bitter tears"...

Told you months ago.

The polls that everyone clinged to were skewed, and unreliable. Brexit showed this, the primaries showed this. Nate Silver has even himself admitted that polls are far less reliable than before. The media as whole has completely shat its pants this election on so many levels it is damn near hilarious.

The eye test showed how popular he really was. She drew the same crowd with Beyonce and Jay Z as he did on his own. Any metric, crowds or video views all pointed in the same direction - except the polls.

I wonder if there will ever be a "alt left" in 4 or 8 years, and what principles they would adopt.

Most of the stuff you said is bullshit. Check why government spending is so high. It's not because of the democrats. Who started two wars and got the country in a recession again? Oh, right.

You were fucked either way.
The devil or the idiot.

Legitimate question though, can anything good come of this....at all?

Possibly. Only possibly, though.

The media could have a good long look at themselves, and wonder why they didn't call trump out earlier.

The GOP (who are now in hock to a racist, sexist bully) may not like where this has gone, and might join forces with Democrats against the worst of Trump/Pence policies.

But mostly, I think it will force a major change within the DNC starting immediately, to go back to grass routes, and clean house. Pick-up all the volunteers from Hillary's campaign, and get them to work with promoting the mid-terms and pushing them to become activists in the long-haul.

There is work to be done - the mid-terms are everything, now.
