My mother is in her 70's. She's voted Republican in every election since she's been able to vote, but voted for Clinton this election. Just from cursory research, my girlfriend and I look like we might qualify for a visa in New Zealand. We're serious that we are going to move I think. We are trying to have a baby and, yeah, I don't think America is where we want to continue to live. I'm just done with this country to be honest.

Every talking point he brought up is easily disputed with a simple Google search. It's mind blowing.

That's a strength actually, its so obvious that people don't refute them anymore so they keep repeating the same points until they stick with people that don't care about making their own research.

Check the responses, all are: wtf, lol, what am i reading...

This thread also confirms for me what I have suspected for a while: that the U.S. educational system has been well and truly overtaken by leftist teachers and teachings.

Try to keep an open mind and think critically for yourself; I think eventually some of you will come around.

God bless America and all of its people. I don't know what Trump will bring, but I know what Clinton told us she'd bring, and it is not the stuff that made America the greatest country in the world.
Ah yes. The evil leftists and their facts.

Insidious. Why as a homosexual I spread this insidious teaching daily.

Naw I think the education system was overtaken by human decency not libruls

That so many people in these threads have so little empathy towards their fellow man to distill their unique personal interests into these crude mockeries of reasoning is disturbing.

Trump devolved the entire election process into one that lacks empathy for other people and those who voted for him tonight stood in solidarity of that. There is no deliberate misreading. Racism is the platform he stood on, and as a black woman I'm not going to respect anyone who thinks racism is okay in lieu of anti-establishment dick-waggling.

From the BBC.

On what turned out to be a dream night for the Republicans, the party also retained control of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Wow.

What the fuck are you even talking about?

Do you honestly expect him to have an answer to that? The man he supported for President has no idea what he is talking about half the time. Trump supporters don't deal in evidence. They don't deal in facts. They can't have debates on the issues because they have a fundamental misguided understanding of the "issues" that exist only in their own particular form of reality. You can't win over people who are deluded. Republicans thrive on the ignorant and misinformed.

The lack of empathy here on both sides is abhorrent. Everyone is either a cartoon villain racist or some bleeding heart hippy. People are complex animals, with varying experiences, communities, and needs. This leads to differing worldviews and opinions. Believe it or not, it wasn't a choice between two clone candidates, only one was a racist, sexist shit bag and the other a saint. The vast majority of people on Trumps side weren't voting for "fuck yeah racism! Grab them minorities by the pussy!" the same way that Clinton voters weren't voting for "take all the money away from hard working Americans."

Very well said. But this is not a unique problem to the US. We have the same problem in Sweden. It gets ugly.

Someone posted this in the last thread, but I thought it was a fairly thought provoking read. I'm seeing a lot of it here, TBH. http://www.vox.com/2016/4/21/11451378/smug-american-liberalism

Yup. That article is gold. People who look down on others and accuse them of being ignorant, dim-witted, and deplorable only further widens the divide. It helped lead us to where we are now. Fear mongering, bigotry, and racism played large parts obviously, but the smugness of the holier-than-though folks more willing to insult rather than educate played a part. I'm not saying the shoe doesnt fit on lots of Trump supporters, but I would wager that a sizable number of folks that voted rep today did it because of the rifts in our society and the tendency to go the opposite direction when confronted with negativity rather than reason.

And I think the same of you. But the fact is, more Americans seem to agree with me right now than agree with you.

The irony in this is almost too much for me. Holy shit.

Even Nate is not free of blame. His predictive model had Clinton winning literally the entire time with the exception of one day where trump was up by 0.1%. Her likelihood was as high as nearly 90%. Even when they posted the "sobered" prediction fire election day Clinton still had a 75% chance.

Yes they didn't go full clown shoes like fucking Huffpo, but I wouldn't say they got it "right" either.
Eh, considering Silver was getting criticised for giving too much of a chance to Trump, I'd say that his model did make the best call. Admittedly, still the wrong call, but that's what happens to all models when the input data (in this case, the polls) turns out to be total garbage.

Not true unfortunately. The austrian right-wing has recently had a 180° on climate change and is now more or less on the denial side. Don't know about other european countries though.

That really sucks. You expect better from Austria.

I know that in the Netherlands it's high on the agenda (we practically live below sea level so we might as well panic).

Germany and the Scandinavian countries are working hard as well.

my last post yesterday ...

what the fuck is wrong with this planet

I did the same. Slept better than most nights this year. Then I check Whatsapp and people say how crazy Americans are. I check GAF.

This can't be real.

Americans validated this assclown? Minoritiea voted for him. Putin, Team Alucard, Diablos arehaving the biggest circle jerk of all time? The Surpreme Court is lost.

YO WHAT THE FUCK YOU GUYS.

I really hope the EU is building bigger bunkers.

From the BBC.

Wow.

yup

they control everything

eventually they'll control scotus

the people that suffer

is minroities. we suffre tonight. we came out in record numbers. but white racists and race traitors came out stronger. so sad. sad. so sad. sad. I can't right now, breaking out in tear again

You know what the worst part for me is?

I'll go back to work tomorrow. And my mind will be full of the idea that half of every person I interact with thinks I'm a rapist, a drug dealer, a criminal, and straight up subhuman. Maybe I won't be attacked. I live in suburban Houston. This is one of the most diverse cities in the nation.

But the nagging thought will remain there.

Lmao

Fuck everyone who decided not to vote for a "lesser of two evils" because of their fucking principles today. Seriously. You and your goddamn principles are the reason a man who thinks you can electrocute gay people straight is vice president.

No.

I said it 13 months ago, and i'll say it again today.

Whatever happens/ed during the election in event of a failure is not the fault of the people.

The Democratic party failed the people, the people did not fail the Democratic party.

They are the ones, who have to learn what taking their base for granted looks like. They are the ones who have to realize that money and collusion with corrupt big players will eventually mean your downfall.

They are the ones who have to realize that 'business as usual' will destroy their own voting bloc. And it won't be their voters fault, it will be theirs.

Trump only needed for the Democrats and the left to be demoralized, the GOP have been crazy ever since Obama was elected, there was no way they would be demoralized.

Trump only need to come in and gin up the people left and they could overrun the democrats easily, who were so self assured in their dominance because they were the insiders for so long, and were the ones who dealt on the global stage.

They felt they didn't have to appeal to their base at all, and this is what happens. This is what happens when Trump appeals to the core of the righwing base, and Hillary and the dems actively shun the leftwing.

Lets see where the popular vote sits at after all votes are tallied.

So I just read that Clinton technically won the popular by a percentage and a half or something, but Trump won because of the elector college.

I think the electing system might need to change a bit.

This sort of condescending bullshit is exactly why Trump came out on top so unexpectedly.

any more condescending than Kolgar's "fear" that our teachers and students have been taken over by leftist ideologies, and can't think critically?

the act isn't cute: you can't pretend to be intellectual if you aren't willing to defend your points on their own merit.

I can't sleep. This has shook me to my core.

Same

I wish I had gone to sleep earlier, but when it was looking bad I couldn't

Cooperate with Russia to wipe out terrorists in Syria.
Kick their butts back to Saudi Arabia.

Russia announced last week that they would exterminate all remaining civilians who remained in Aleppo

They are committing genocide, they are the terrorists

God bless America and all of its people. I don't know what Trump will bring, but I know what Clinton told us she'd bring, and it is not the stuff that made America the greatest country in the world.

America is not the greatest country in the world and its never been.

I was about to make a facebook post about my disappointment towards trump getting elected..

Then I'm like Nah fuck that it'll just be a lament about the 🐐 president Obama.

Blah blah blah, this requires thinking and listening to other people we disagree with. So much easier to just put your ass in a tidy box of evil and judge ya!

So in his victory speech, he said we owe a debt of gratitude to Hillary for her service to the country... A couple weeks after saying he would jail her.

This dude can just say whatever, no consistency required.

I think it's less about Trump being a complete dick and more about how much people hated Clinton. The American people just told everyone they'd rather have an idiot than a criminal. She also displayed true colors when she wouldn't even come out and say thanks herself to the people that waited hours for her at Clinton HQ.

Clinton supporters are alright with this.

The only people who aren't fine with it are Trump supporters having their day.

I'm still waiting for where you think critically enough to explain why literally every republican exploded the deficit at a greater rate than their democratic contemporaries.

Also, Hillary will probably win the popular vote.

This sort of condescending bullshit is exactly why Trump came out on top so unexpectedly.

It wasn't unexpected if you didn't underestimate the depths of ignorance and hatred in a lot of the population. Combine that with desperation and when a con man comes to fan it all, they follow like the Pied Piper. That's what happened, not some mass triggering of white America by meanie liberals.
