Someone please tell me it's going to be okay. Please.

as long as you are a straight christian white male it will likely be okay.
assuming trump and his mouth don't provoke others into war.

but sadly if you don't fit in that category it doesn't look good right now.

well I suppose it also depends how needed your job is, as we are likely going to lose a lot of jobs in the coming years.

there really is a Simpsons gif for everything... from an episode in 2000 where Lisa Simpson becomes the first heterosexual woman to become president and has taken over from Donald Trump who left the US in ruin lol

I don't understand how anyone who aligns themselves with the values of what the Democratic party claims to stand for can sit back and just throw so many groups under the bus just because they don't think Clinton was an optimal candidate.

Actually, I take it back, I understand it perfectly. I just can't reconcile the reality of it. It's an uncomfortably common sentiment I've seen expressed, and it just blows my fucking brains to the wall.

There's a vast difference between don't thinking Clinton was an optimal candidate and thinking Trump was.

Get the fuck out with that fascist attitude, 29% of latinos voted for Trump, 8% of african americans voted for Trump, they are racist too?

You're an ignorant, brainwashed idiot if you really believe in that stupid reductionism Trump supporter= racist or misogynist
What the hell is wrong with you 😡

How exactly does she win over those white, rural voters that went big for Trump? What's your strategy here? also remember you're up against wikileaks/russia as well.

She could probably never win with them, but she was unable to energize the people who could have easily handed this election to her.

I mean, it can't be bad. Either he does a good job or we revel in the misery of his supporters.

If you are gay your quality of life is probably going to plummet. Similarly if you are Muslim or from an African or western Asian country. Similarly for lots of other types of people.

Honestly I'm more shocked by trumps victory than I was by the 9/11 attacks. There are a lot of pollsters who will be looking for new jobs.

I begrudgingly voted Trump. If the Dems had given me a candidate I could have gotten behind I would have voted Dem. People loved jumping on me for my choice and calling me all kinds of names. Feeling a bit justified now. Still, really shitty that these were our choices.

You feel justified in your vote... because lots of other people made the same reprehensible decision?

Enjoy your moment of democracy. We won't underestimate your rank stupidity again.

"Hey, Link. It's your companion. I need you to go save Zelda so Ganon doesn't destroy the world."

"But Zelda's so untrustworthy. Why doesn't she ever leave her tower? What is she hiding?"

"What does that have to do with the impending apocalypse?"

"I'm saying, maybe the apocalypse is better, you know? The gerudo seem pretty pissed out there in the desert. Maybe Ganon should win for once."

"I don't think you understand the concept of an apocalypse, that being that it affects everyone regardless of ethnicity, meaning the gerudo would be fucked too."

"But Ganon is promising change. All Zelda is for is the same boring status quo. I'm not energized."

"Are you serious right now? Ganon literally just said all Hylians are rapists."

"Can't even have a beer with her."

And that is the backstory to Breath of the Wild.

Voting should be mandatory in the US.

Mandatory voting won't fix problems because people don't take voting seriously. They will not care who to vote for because they don't think it will affect their daily lifestyle.

The average person doesn't spend time scrutinising the policies of each candidate and they don't think about whether a politician is serving your interests or are self-serving.

Unfortunately politics isn't like the average person's job, if you fuck up your job really badly you'd be fired and yet, a politician can survive that if they can convince people to vote for them because again, people don't take voting seriously.

Edit: Which is why I said before, for people thinking that others will learn from their mistakes, fear for the worst. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump got a second term because people don't learn from their mistakes.

There's a vast difference between don't thinking Clinton was an optimal candidate and thinking Trump was.

If you followed that line of conversation, you'd know they were responding to someone who said they voted Trump despite liking the democratic platform.

which is who?

she is probably going to win the popular vote, and she lost white people in swing states. that's all there is to it.

there were a higher propensity of minorities for trump than expected but she still needed at least SOME white people

Tell that to the single parent who can only find part time jobs thanks to the ACA fucking it up for everyone.

Believing every Trump supporter is a racist is one of the reasons why they fucking won.

People had problems and like fucking clockwork were swept under the bus by the left.

Good job, guy. Real nice. Thanks for steeling people who could have been on our side had we a shred of understanding it's not just about racism or xenophobia.

Get the fuck out of that echo chamber, guy.

The fuck are you talking about. Racism is NOT just a point of view.

Those real problems were blamed on minorities and immigrants, not met with plausible solutions.

Not every Trump supporter is racist but they are all extremely fucking gullible.

Saddest thing for me is that the world can't afford 4-8 years of a president that doesn't believe global warming is real. It could be the nail in the coffin when it comes to hope of reducing CO2 emissions enough to limit warming to below 2C. It was a slim hope even with reasonable people like Obama/Clinton in charge.
Agreed.

I weep for the Earth we live in.

I said it before, I'll say it again...

All this mass pro-Hilary internet campaign that resembled downright propaganda material completely backfired.

Having showbiz stars, actors, singers doing tv/youtube spots and having internet celebrities be so vocal, was -even for me who certainly did not want Trump to lead this country- repulsive.

Who has been emboldening racists and taking advantage of people whose jobs are never coming back.

It's difficult to defeat your opponent when they don't have to bother telling the truth. I genuinely don't even know if Bernie would've done any better. Maybe among whites but he had even lower enthusiasm from minorities.

Yeah i feel the same now

Even Bernie wpuld have lost. Not sure he would have snagged the protest/3rd party votes

am I understanding this correctly?? (I am non-american so bear with me)

I am watching the live results right this very second and it appears to be that about 120'000 americans made the difference.

so basically Brexit again? Brexit was 51% to 49% if I remember correctly. this is 48% vs 48%

I know in the US you have to win by state and not plain number of votes so I am not sure if the situation is similar.

Don't insult them. Don't talk down to them like they're stupid and wrong about everything. Be a likable person.

Would it be enough? I don't know, I'm not a politician. Obama somehow managed to convince enough of them (white people)

She's going to win the popular vote (probably) because of California, a state the Democrats haven't lost since 1988. It doesn't really matter.

I'm pretty sure she got very big turnout in some of those swing states, like Florida, it's just the massive turnout of rural whites was devastating.

For sure.

What's crazy to me is that she lost fucking Michigan. (Ok, I guess it hasn't been officially called yet....but c'mon)

It's the kind of move that shows you the disconnect between people's stated and actual values. A person who genuinely cares about the consequences of conservative action wouldn't be so fickle with their vote.

He had a narrow path and needed to win NC, Ohio, and Florida just to give him a shot of flipping a usual blue state for the Electoral College Win. What the Fuck.

Also, isn't Ohio supposed to be close? He won it rather easily.

She never had Ohio imo. Trump led Ohio for months. You'd have to be delusional to think she'd win Ohio. What is troubling is that she lost democratic leaning states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin when she had leads there. I'm still kind of in shock that Trump won Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

You know how Drumpf won?

Hillary's deplorables comment. She poked the sleeping rurals and they all went cyber on her, themselves and everyone.
I think the major problem was that she didn't really stand for anything, just more of the same. Trump was spouting all these crazy ideas, whereas Clinton coasted on kind of being the assumed winner. Now the assumption was of course based on that she was by far the most qualified candidate, but most people don't vote rationally, they vote a narrative. And Hillary didn't really have one. This is something most centrists across the west are struggling with, they think they can sway people with rational remarks, or they try the same fear mongering but are not as convincing in it as the demagogue experts. The deplorables quote of course in hindsight sealed the deal, who are these deplorable people that don't obviously vote for me? Even though she didn't have a narrative why people should actually vote for her. Except for her being a woman, which is an idea that everyone to the right of central left gets increasingly annoyed by.

I'm sorry, but what makes you think they're the ones being looked down upon? They're not victims here.

But who was treating whom as less than human?

The anti-Hillary folk weren't being assholes, but the Pro Hillary group were being COMPLETE assholes to those for somply not sharing the same opinion. Sorry, that's not on.

It wasn't about sharing the same opinion, it was about what he stood) stands for and what he has unleashed by way of bigotry and reinvigorating a section of society that should have been stamped out rather than coddled or given sympathy.

Stop with the victim bullshit.
