Yes, I am deeply ashamed of my fellow white women today. They threw everyone else under the bus to "save" themselves.

I think part of the problem is just that the initial sting of that audio recording wore off. Like at the time, it was very, very bad for him. This stuff was awful to have on tape. But give it some time and he just kind of lands into the realm of misogyny wherein people dismiss it as him being the product of his time as opposed to landing in "legitimate predator" territory. And when the parade of accusers started coming forward I think some thought that this was going to be Cosby 2.0 but I sadly don't think that any of the accusations were serious enough. That's not me trying to say that I don't think they were serious charges deserving of attention, but just that I don't think they crossed the threshold of he-said-she-said territory or "that's just how powerful men are" rationalization into "this monster should be behind bars" levels of backlash.

It was embarrassing but not altogether out of character and not out of line with expectations of a character like Trump. I also don't think that people were convinced that the behavior actually described criminal assault.

We have one party that will gladly vote for anybody with an (R) next to their name and another that just can not give a fuck unless everything is wrapped in the most beautiful bow possible. That isn't just with Presidential elections, but mid-terms, too. I'm fully expecting 2018 to be a wipe.

But on a basic level, I will stand by the idea that if you support a bigot, you are complicit with his views and okay with them, and that in some ways is almost as bad as championing the racism/sexism/etc yourself.

By your definition there is no middle ground..its all about extremes as the only reality.

So by your basic level rules people should either potentially pick familial suicide over survival to support the greater moral good, and that's just such a naive view of life.

I can tell you if given the choice I would always choose a moral ethical greater good as long as it doesn't mean the demise of my own well being.. Cuz to me that's not a real choice.
I won't commit suicide if you frame any choice to such a basic binary choice
I must choice my well being over others well being in that type of absolute.

But I don't think Democratic free societies politics are that binary. I prefer having four substantive parties to choose from so the issues of an election can allow me the choice to choose a candidate the best represents my views best in that situation Even if I don't agree with all their views or all their policies.

At this point I'm wondering if half of white woman are brainwashed. They just voted a sexual predator for president. I don't get it.

Self-interest

"It wasn't/won't be me. Also he says these things that apply to my current situation and w/e"

I recall a headline where some woman anchor was like "I'd rather be grabbed by the pussy than be led by one"

Hilary does not seem to have pull with the people she says she represents

This is basically what i've been trying to say since the start.

This whole knee-jerk 'Trump voter equals racist, sexist bigot' narrative ended up galvanizing the resolve of both bases and deafened us to the real underlying issues.

You really think the majority of the Trump base voted for him because Liberals were mean to them? His usserbase didnt grow specifcally until he started with his racist rhetoric

I'm really tired of this narrative that the left literally refusing to embrace any of his racist shit caused this. If the issue was economics why exactly did he have to say ridiculous thing after ridiculous thing to keep people engaged?

This was caused by giving racsim a voice. Any other shit people wanna say about being disenfranchied or whatever takes back seat to the fact he ran an entire campaign on racism "just" to make that point.

For fucking god sakes really? Someone address this point. Where would he be without the open racism?

Do you feel like a Trump vote was a smart choice?

Whether it was a 'smart choice' depends on what you want to achieve by casting your vote. This is different for every individual. Personally, I think the man is absolute scum.

But the outcome of his actual presidency is completely up in the air. So there's absolutely no way to accurately answer this right now. We'll find out in four years.

He's going to court for raping a girl next month....this is why woman don't come forward. My own sex doesn't even care.

Wait so, as an outsider trying to understand the vote system and seeing the final numbers, I see that Clinton actually got more votes, but she still looses because of the electoral points of each state. So that means that the majority of US voters actually chose Hillary, right?

I still don't get why some states are worth so many electoral votes, I'm going to read more on this now.

Such a shame.

That's the other thing

All those women who came forth with their stories?

President of the US is gonna thumb his nose at them and laugh and they're coming away worse.

That case was dropped. And honestly -- and I feel really, really uncomfortable saying this because I absolutely do encourage victims of abuse to step forward and don't want to seem on the side of subjecting victims to unfair scrutiny -- this particular case never really seemed above water. I'm not saying that I think Trump is incapable of such an act, but there have been red flags about this particular case all over the place.

She didn't win the popular vote by a large margin. The nation was split down the middle for the most part.

Was it? My bad then.

Either way my point still stands. Woman we need to do some deep thinking going forward. It was put up or shut up and we shut up.

A lot of women are opposed to what the feminist movement has become and I personally don't find the female vote surprising as a result. You don't get it because you've surrounded yourself with like-minded people. We all do it in our own way and it can be shocking to realize the way we think is just not the same as other people. My girlfriend hates feminists, for example. She thinks Trump is appalling though. We are not American, but she would have never voted for him for reasons other than his opinion of women.

Were you here last night? ALOT more people had very similar things to say about women/hispanics and white Americans

I was, and I didn't see anything "similar" to that. What I saw was people posting graphs showing some breakdowns of Trump supporters and people being understandably surprised. If I missed something actually similar to that it wouldn't shock me as the thread was averaging 5 pages a minute at some points.

I also know that one post is far from "GAF's true colors" even though a Trump supporter who is also a GAF member may feel that way.

it was always gonna be tough. difficult for a party to win three terms in a row. not to downplay Trump or the Breitbart people; clearly they understood something others did not. just that historically, it was always gonna be tough.

I don't I think most people here are reasonable even if 98% here will criticize my stance. Just simply saying they weren't the only ones.

Screw you America for not voting for her. I'm so disappointed in you.
Trust us, we're disappointed in ourselves even more. No fully conscious citizen wanted this result yet here we are. Ignorance and bigotry prevails once more, sadly.
