BBC News just interviewed the dumbest motherfucker I've heard in a while. A gay Latino from Florida trying to explain why Trump is the most pro-LGBT candidate America has ever had. The fucking mental gymnastics.

News anchor had to politely cut him off.

Welcome.

Welcome to City 17.

Look at the number of eligible voters in America. Then look at the number of them that are even registered. Less than half are. Surge of rural white voters and most of the country just not giving a fuck is how this happened.

How are some of you all handling this?
I feel crushed and I'm not one to be into politics but this whole trump thing should have been so clear to everyone how unfit he is compared to his opponent and yet he won.

My mom was sobbing last night, I work up this morning with my eyes still closed to hear that he won. I feel I've been crying inside and a feeling anxiety. Again I could care less but this is just insane...

Especially to learn that my dad and older brother are all for trump. Don't really have any relationship with them either so that's good.
.

I'm in shock, just kinda going through the motions and trying not to think too much about it.

Not sure if accurate.

Shameful shit.

Here in the Netherlands it's consistently a 75-80% turnout, and our elections are not even close to as hotly contested as yours.

Is this the electoral college fucking things up? I guess your archaic voter registration systems aren't helping either.

Holding their heads up high! Because by abstaining, they can't take the blame for having a shitty candidate.

I've actually heard this a few times today already.

It's already being passed around on GAF now. I stand by my words that at least as a protest putting Johnson or Stein gives the statistical evidence there was x millions of voters lost by both campaigns. Not 46.9% that just didn't give any shits at all about American politics. It also gets you to vote on other important matters on the ballot and lastly, while optimistic, every person you get in a booth CAN change their mind at the last second.

Nearly 50% not turning out for this vote is absolutely depressing.

What people fail to realize about the filibuster, is that should the Republicans become a minority in 2018 (it looks likely now that the Republicans have won the presidency and the opposite party normally wins) they are not going to want the Democrats to take away the filibuster. Also, they can apply the rule to certain things and not everything if they wanted which seems like the likely bet (like the Dems removed the filibuster on only judicial nominees). Congress looks out for itself first and foremost.

I am unsure on the fate of the filibuster but it will take a long time for anything to change on that front, it won't be his few few months in office at least. There will be a lot of push and pull, and the fact that Dems will hold Speaker gives them a break point to gridlock. Moreover, I expect parts of the elected will actually filibuster the attempt to break the filibuster.

Mind I don't think the country is about to explode or anything, and this election is actually an eye-opening commentary on the systemic problems under everything. But it will have long-term repercussions even if nothing actually happens.

Also I fully expect the current moderate or only-partially leaning SCOTUS members to stay on their seats and dance with death for four years if they have to given the current political landscape. And I also expect Trump is going to do some weird shit with whomever he nominates anyway.

So the only consolation I can take out of this whole shit show is that John Oliver's Make Donald Drumpf Again! extension gets 4 more years of use.
