GAF told me it is impossible that he will win Michigan and Wisconsin. Why has nobody in the Clinton campaign listened to Michael Moore? False pride?

Holy fuck.

For every word i read in it felt like him throwing Ls to my face like

full

Stop right there. Haha

Tons of smart people here, delusional ones as well. I was part of the delusional. Moore nailed it. Jeez.

I had to share that article on FB. Crazy how accurately Moore called this shit. Count me as part of the delusional crowd as well; I was certain Hillary would absolutely cream Trump. It's gonna take a white for me to finish eating this huge pile of crow on my plate.

Now that i had some time to digest the thought of a possible Trump presidency, i have decided that the chances of him being a decent POTUS pretty are pretty slim. I don't think have i have read anything about his life that shows even glimpse of an effective leader, this is gonna get nasty.

Politico: Democratic Party in crisis

Democrats awoke Wednesday facing something they had worked hard to convince themselves was a problem exclusively of the right: a party in crisis.

Swept dramatically from power as Republicans assumed control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives and stood poised to make Supreme Court appointments that will dictate the direction of the Judiciary for a generation, the Democratic Party is only beginning to grapple with enormous questions – everything from who will lead to what the party will stand for.

You know for the last few months i have been reading a lot of articles about the demise of the republican party because they don't appeal to minorities, when it is in fact Democratic party that is perhaps in danger of dying out. They fucking lost everything, hopefully they clean house at the DNC and start rebuilding from the ground up like Howard Dean wanted to.

I caught a LOT of shit yesterday for saying I wanted to see fireworks (before the results came in).
I didn't mean fireworks in the sense of riots or unrest or any harm to America or the world stage.

I meant seeing the meltdowns from people who think that this is the end of the world and civilization. It's not.

I was disappointed and surprised when we voted Brexit I am surprised and a little shocked that the US actually voted for Trump BUT things are going to be ok. This is democracy at work. Take a deep breath. Stop panicking. The sky is still blue, the sun still rises and sets. We are all still here.

We need to realise that there are obviously a LOT of scared or pissed off people out there in the US and UK. People scared about the way the world is heading and even if you don't agree with them or their views it's obvious that the governments have been failing these people thus far. Maybe we do need change.

The biggest impact in my life comes from the boneheaded local voters in Seattle that voted yes on a ridiculously overpriced public transit initiative that won't fix anything for people who drive cars.

The President has very little impact on my day-to-day life.

It's not just the presidency. Congress and the presidency has the ability to tell people who they can marry, how much money they have to dish out from their paychecks, impact healthcare in a way that makes only certain people eligible, etc. These are things that affect real people. So I don't know why it would be hard to understand why people are distraught.

Moore wasn't the only one.

Its unfuckingbelievable that Hillary's campaign staff missed this.

I have said this since the primary, to endless poo-pooing of my analysis of the results. From people saying (paraphrasing) "People just love Bill Clinton though, you're underestimating his popularity" to "voters won't know, care or remember what NAFTA is"

They said that for the Libral Party of Canada in the last election, now Trudeau has a majority. they said that about the republicans the last election, now they have all 3 branches of government under their control. Democrats will be fine. Just give it time.

Besides political tactics i honestly dont feel like they need to change any message. Theyve always been the message for good. God help us they try to be more like Repubs.

Voting for someone holding a position doesn't necessarily mean you also support that position. That's a basic logical fallacy.

I prefer to vote based on the positions of the candidates.

But I've heard this for decades, "I'd have a beer with him," or, "he goes to church every Sunday."

Who cares? Vote for someone on the positions they hold, people.

So people are justified in their fears about as you put it the way the world is heading but people scared of Trump are just being hyperbolic?

Again people acting like the guy didn't run a campaign of hate. It's unbelievable

I think their message is totally fine. I also don't see it changing. They have a strong coalition that just needs to be motivated.

They need a strong candidate and new faces for the party. People are sick of Donna Brazile, DWS, whatever. Now is as good a mandate as any to change the party leadership up.

People besides me should have voted for the most qualified candidate to be President of the United States.

Did it.

I bet they are. Dollars to doughnuts that he doesn't understand the implications of a single one of them though.
This echo chamber is hilarious. You idiots sat around for a year and a half telling yourself this was an election that the Dems couldn't lose, when people like me warned you that minorities didn't like corrupt Hillary and wouldn't turn out to vote for her. Now you're sitting around licking your wounds, moaning and wailing and accusing everyone that supported Trump of being a sexist and racist. You keep asking, what policies of his do you support? I posted a list straight from his site. 'I bet they are' -- I don't even know what you're implying.

Wake up, pull your heads out of your asses, and nominate a decent candidate next time. And stop calling everyone who voted for a candidate you didn't like a racist, sexist xenophone, otherwise you might find a lot more elections going in this direction.

Sorry if old.

Conflicted on this. Obviously it's good that he hopefully won't go through with it, but it just angers me that his supporters completely bought his bullshit pandering.

Either way, he's a piece of shit.
Interesting. Will keep an eye on this.

You guys realize that Trump only wants to get rid of illegal immigration, right?

By saying "He wants to every single Mexican out of the U.S.", you are blatantly lying to suit your agenda.
Who said he wants all Mexicans out? I don't recall seeing that. What people are upset by is him saying Mexico is sending all their worst people and that they're all rapists and criminals.

Stop right there. Haha

Tons of smart people here, delusional ones as well. I was part of the delusional. Moore nailed it. Jeez.

Fact is this went beyond gaf. People scoffed at the notion that he could actually win, and so did the outlets. Giving him single digit % chance of winning and hell even berating Nate silver for suggesting it was possible.

This is their fault for being so complacent and arrogant. I have no idea where they got their numbers... Particularly Huffington giving hillary a 98% chance and again, berating people who challenged their analysis, including a full article tearing into Nate silver and calling his intellect out.

My dad might legit be a fucking idiot.

Dude depised Clinton yet knows Trump will blow up the country and fucking voted for him anyway. He is clearly regretting that decision because he's more talkative about politics than usual.

Republicans man. I fucking can't...

Well, technically that's not correct.
He didn't say they are all rapists and he added "some, I assume, are good people" :P

Trump has the nuclear launch codes and nobody can override him. Let that sink in for a second. This dangerous, unstable, 3AM hate tweeting buffoon with ZERO foreign policy experience is going to have to deal with the looming North Korean threat. You know why Japan and South Korea got so freaked out about Trump? Because they don't want North Korea, who WILL be able to send an ICBM tipped with a nuclear warhead, to drop a bomb on them while the US leaves former allies out to dry unless they "pay up." How in the world can you not consider this a dangerous situation? At least Clinton had the temperament and experience to handle them. You think Trump, who claims he knows more about ISIS than American generals, is going to make rational foreign policy decisions or listen to his advisers? He is a sociopath by every possible metric. A sociopath has control of ~900 nuclear warheads. Christ.

This election had global consequences.

So what does everyone think was specifically the tipping point? As much as many of us were thinking it, I really believe Hillary shouldn't have used the 'Basket of Deplorables' comment. It almost seemed out of character for her to same say something like that, and Trump's base rallied around that. Maybe nothing would have stopped the rust belt from going the way they did anyway.

That will certainly be held up as a defining moment that galvanized her opposition, but it's probably just an example of a larger problem.

After all, there really were deplorable attitudes and ideas-- xenophobia, racism, et al. -- at the core of the Trump campaign. Not calling that out would have been a disservice.

The reason she lost is the people in the other basket that no one remembers her mentioning. The people who feel abandoned by the government, who feel they have no place in the economy, who feel like no one is looking out for them, and were looking for anybody who appeared to actually cared. She lost because most of those people never believed she was that person.

The mistake in the statement was being so overly generalizing that anyone who heard the comment thought she was putting them in the first basket when her intent was to reach out to everyone in the second.

Canadian government is formed at same time of the vote.

American senate and congress are rolling and only limited seats are up for change. Also typically 66% of canadians vote left and with FPTP, Canadians screw themselves when they can't choose a party to rally behind.

My father voted for Trump despite not knowing half of the insane things he's said and done. He didn't even watch the debates, and yet he still seems content in saying that he'd be more embarrassed if Hillary was president. I don't think he even knows who he's voted for. But then again, he's the type of person who thinks Obama has made race relations worse, so he's probably a lost cause.

So, i took a look at his rumored administration on CNN. This would be crazy.
Giving a high position to Stephen Bannon, who essentially runs Der Stürmer 2.0 aka Breitbart, that would be insane. Right?
Imagine Ben Carson as Secretary of Education. Right now i feel that his administration would be like the US had a couple of Trumps instead of just one.

So people are justified in their fears about as you put it the way the world is heading but people scared of Trump are just being hyperbolic?

The campaign is the campaign.
It's a media showcase to drum up support by whatever means necessary. The campaign has always been politics at its worst. Trump exposed that.

People that think Trump actually believes half of what he said, or that he will actually follow any of it up are just as delusional as they were last night when they expected Clinton to win.

My point is that the very fact that Trump was able to succeed with that campaign highlights the problems within your nation (just as Brexit highlighted problems within ours). Those problema wouldn't have just disappeared if Clinton had won. Those problems need to be addressed now.

Hopefully you are right, maybe in 4 or 8 years the democrats can repel most of Trump's policies except for you know the US supreme justices he nominates, those are gonna last decades.

Besides political tactics i honestly dont feel like they need to change any message. Theyve always been the message for good. God help us they try to be more like Repubs.

Their policies are good but the messaging is not working, maybe i'm wrong something is clearly not working.

This is exactly the hyperbole that I'm talking about.

What you think is gonna happen??? You think Trump now has total control of the world? Has his fingers hovering over nuclear buttons? You think one man has all that power?

I'm not even gonna argue with you. Bookmark this and wait and see what actually happens before declaring a global state of emergency.

Get a grip dude. You act like neogaf was the sole decider in running Hillary. The entirety of the forum could have voted one way and it wouldn't have amounted to a drop in the ocean.

I think the hand-wringing about nuclear war is hyperbolic as well, but the President does have unilateral authority to order the use of nuclear weapons. He's not wrong.
