Protests against Trump in NYC and other cities

Well i think a lot of people will protest trump, either way.

Hopefully all the protestors actually voted is my only thought.

I've seen lots of dumb shit where I live (NYC). I've seen a small group of protesters wanting him to get impeached, holding up signs of Obama with a Hitler mustache.

Maybe not an actual protest but it was something odd.

You want to know what's odd? I looked at the district voting map for my neighborhood, and there is a pocket of red in South Williamsburg that is right in the middle of the Hasidic area.

The thing is we have no idea if the voting suppression effected any of the protestors. So I think it's best not to worry who voted and who didn't. The election is over and even if some of these people didn't vote, hopefully this will energize them to vote next time.

A reporter on CNN was reporting live last night while walking with one of the protest marchers, and he started asking them questions such as who they voted for.

One of the two people he talked to was a guy that started talking about how the election was stolen or some-such stuff, and when asked to clarify he revealed he meant it was stolen from Bernie Sanders. When asked if he had voted for Hillary, he said absolutely not. Same for if he had voted for Trump. The reporter then asked him if he thought that maybe voting for Hillary would have helped, and he said no.

The reporter instantly shut down the conversation and moved away. My wife, her parents, and I all burst out laughing. It was both hilarious and sad.

The guy of course was young and white. It's those that are likely to be minimally affected that can sit back and talk as if they have the moral high ground as things go to shit.

People are terrible at collective responsibility. They always seem to assume someone else will take care of things if they don't want to/don't feel like it. This is what helped Trump win.

And they all live in this country and have the right to protest.

I spent this whole election season arguing with people who ascribed to this "both sides" and "lesser of two evils" nonsense. A frightening amount of people in this country had no idea what exactly was on the line here and fell victim to a misplaced sense of pride, and now they're going to learn the hard way what evil is.

They still have the right to protest just as the people who went to the booths, but if even after the next 4 years none of them learned anything from this, our country's prospects are gonna be dim.

I simply asked a question about obamas win.

Another point was that even with a record number of votes near supermajority in both houses, and a wave election he still reached out to republicans. He carried over Bush admin people, and appointed republicans to his cabinet.

Trump without winning the popular vote has done nothing to promote reconciliation.

I think a female politician is unfortunately the most rigidly decisive factor within that ardent community.

I saw that as well. It was pathetic and absolutely embarrassing.

There are a few things I've confirmed and/or learned from this election's results:

1. People are primarily self-interested.

This would apply to all voters, but is made crystal clear by their being willing to vote for Trump. Deportations? Bannings? Bigotry? Doesn't impact me or my immediate family! I won't be affected, so I can just focus on things that will affect me, like taxes.

2. People avoid responsibility

Faced with options for which none seem ideal, people will shy away from having to make a decision. Someone else will make it, and they will just deal with things from there. The right to complain will always be reserved though.

3. People are terrible at critical thinking.

Being able to question and logically criticise or otherwise not take things at shallow, immediate face value is a much harder skill for people than I ever thought. This also applies to those who dismiss Trump's rhetoric as just empty words that don't actually mean anything. Also see people's inability to actually question how someone will realistically achieve proclaimed goals.

4. People run off of minimal information

People are distracted and lazy. Everyone always says they are busy and focused on things going on more immediately within their personal sphere. No time or will to research, or pay serious attention. If nothing catches their attention, this state remains and they will continue on distracted by their personal concerns. Low information voters and non-voters. People who are either too distracted and decide not to vote, feeling not qualified to do so, or people who vote off the little information they have picked up along the way without any focused attention. People really struggle to look beyond their daily life, even though they could if they really wanted.

5. People are terrible at thinking long-term.

From the non-voters/Bernie or Busters, to the Trump voters voting out of self-interest for lower taxes or whatever, few seem to look past immediate impacts for themselves. This gets fairly mind-boggling when long-term impacts would look to negate or even reverse any short-term gains.

See: Environmental protection, wealth disparity, international relations and trade, government supports and services, and the economy.

Remember these things in future elections. I have yet to be surprised to the contrary.

I saw that as well. It was pathetic and absolutely embarrassing.

Completely pathetic. Totally in line with the results though, sadly.

There has been a mobile Trump protest in San Francisco the past few hours. THey are on bikes/skates/boards all decked out in glowing lights and are riding the town starting mini-concerts playing some good music.

Saw some of them last night down by pier 39. There were a bunch of roller skaters with the sign "Skate against Hate."

Just got out of the march here in NYC. The unity and power in the people marching was unparalleled. Easily one of the most emotional things I've ever done.

The worry i see now is the dominoes are falling into place. If you were a conspiracy theorist you could make a case for the systematic steps to let the country tear itself apart.

I mean Trump now wants to hold rallies. Yeah that will work well, armed people supporting Trump getting met with protestors.

And then you got the new Un-American activities committee. Gee i wonder when the last time we had a committee deciding what was anti-american to deal with bad apples.

So if the protestors keep going on will the Republican's just ignore it? Like it's only day four but what if this continues all the way to January 20th. You'd think there be some comments or no?

Hopefully the media just keeps showing the protests and gives it coverage.

Stream just said the protests like the LA one have been going for 4 days now.

How do they get the time off work?

LA one started at 10 am today. Marched from MacArthur Park to Los Angeles and First St. Huge group still gathered on Los Angeles. Lots of speeches happening throughout the day.

This is disgusting to hear. as someone that could be impacted bigly by Trump, I think this is what we deserve.

100% truth.

I believe there are people in the echo chamber on Fox News that want the protesters prosecuted.

I think the only way you will get their full attention is through massive labor strikes but I don't think that will happen, at least not anytime soon.

Oh yeah orthodox jews vote republican.

They are one issue voters. Israeli safety.

I am a secular jew but ppl in my fam vote that way too and i fight them to the bitter end.

Did people protest obama too?

Not sure I would call this picture a protest exactly, when the people at this event specifically said they might not agree with the president but they do support him. This seems more about controversy over the flag drama of 2015 and wanting to advocate for southern pride (whether that is right or not) than specifically protesting the president.

Just got back from NYC and

Went to the NYC union square protest, was very calm and didn't have much energy

Don't think this is going to last long

I went to the same protest and while the gathering in Union Square was pretty tame, once we finally started marching it was absolutely nuts, and that shit is still going on. If that's supposed to be "low energy" then the first protests must have been unfathomably absurd.

Is the protest still going on? Is there a large crowd outside Trump Tower? How many people do you estimate were there?

Not sure, but when I tried going back to the trump tower a few hours later the place was still completely crowded off. Even when I was walking back to the subway there was still a march going down the street. No way I can put a number on the amount of people there from my limited earthbound perspective, lmao, but it was easy one of the largest gatherings of people I've seen here.
