Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Amazon has the 55KS8000 for $997. No tax and free shipping, but I'm sure it'll still show up cheaper somewhere else soon enough. I'm just done waiting and researching so I jumped on it, with delivery scheduled for next Saturday. They've also been good about TV deliveries (and returns) for me in the past...so yeah, couldn't resist.

I don't see this anywhere, still 1197 or more from all the various sellers.

Really tempted by the newegg deal, but it's a third party seller so who knows about delivery or returns.

Edit: think I'm going to go buy the 65 ks8000 at Best Buy today then price match using my discover the Black Friday price. Really hope I don't massively regret not getting Dolby vision in 3 years.

I'm heavily considering the LG OLED65B6P after going to the store with the intent of walking out with a Vizio P75-C1, wandering by the LG OLED's and my jaw dropping. Are there any owners of the LG posting here? Sounds like the input lag could be the only issue in regard to gaming. Any input?

The thread is buying a 4K tv for PS4 Pro. You ultimately want a television that hits the 4K and HDR notes while still having low input lag and an affordable price. That is the main reason you only really see the KS8000 or X800D mentioned. The B6 is one of the more expensive televisions on the market and it has issues with input lag cycling. LG has released firmware to get the lag ms down, but can still go as high as 55 ms+. So naturally you will see it recommended less in a gaming focused thread. But OLED is the future. The televisions don't get ridiculously bright yet, but the ultimate black levels really make HDR pop and they are Dolby Vision and HDR10 cerified meaning great future proofing. Image retention/burn in is a larger factor than the LED because of the way the screen is designed and works.

Was thinking about this, friend picked it up and says it has HDR Pro. Which..I don't know if it's a marketing term or if it's actually true HDR?

I don't TV shop very often but I'd like to buy a new living room TV at this price. (Would be updating from this, so the refresh rate will take a hit from gaining 4K) Thing is, this seems to be a newish model and I can barely find info on it. I keep reading that new models that tend to pop up around black friday time are usually cop-outs so I'm a little suspicious.

My current 4K doesnt have HDR, is it currently worth buying a newer one with HDR ? Current tv is only a year or so old.

I honestly feel like HDR is as important as 4K, but if you already have a UHD set, hold off until manufacturers sort out the backlight issues, brightness, standardize the specs even more etc.

Also, guys please read through the thread. Several of these questions have been asked and answered numerous times. Even just a few oages back.

Just went to richer sounds and a local department store to have a browse. They had all of my shortlisted TVs - Sony x800d (actually the x8577 but same price), Sony XD93, LG OLED B6 in 55". Unfortunately in richer sounds none had 4K inputs - only the 65" LG E6 did.

The sales assistant put Star Wars the force awakens trailer n bluray on both the LG B6 and then the Sony XD93, in that order. By comparison the Sony looked very flat and the blacks were quite grey, but then that might also have been the setup. The LG looked fantastic though.

The addition of free sky Q for a year (including a mini box so I can stream to my old TV in the spare room) helps to mitigate the extra cost, but £2000 is quite a step up from when I started looking at £999 sets like the x800d..

My local department store had the ks7000 for £999 with an offer for a Samsung UHD bluray player for £150. They also had the LG B6 and the guy said he'd probably be able to do me a deal on a UHD player if I went for that one. That particular UHD bluray has twin HDMI outputs (one for audio) so no issues with my receiver not being 4K compatible. Also comes with 3 free discs (Martian, revenant and Independence Day 2)

Mine arrived at my local hub yesterday. Spoke to a rep and she said I would be called Monday to schedule the delivery.

Same except mine was scheduled yesterday for a Monday delivery. They said I could pick it up if I wanted but they're only available from 1-5 and I'll be at work smh.

Probably the same reason I can't find much aside from Day 1 impressions from the LG 50UH5530 - new model for this month.

I believe a that's just a uh5500 without energy star compliance. High input lag and not very bright.

Best budget option is the Hisense H8C.

Just picked up the 55 inch for $500. Its a stunner. Looks better than the the $1800 Panasonic 65ax800u I sold. Checks all ticks on xbox one s except 3d.

Colors and contrast are drastically better. It's insane.

Was going to go with the Sony x800d but figured I would miss the screen real estate. 65 was too big for my new living room but 55 is perfect.

Any concerns with the Hisense as far as gaming and lag?

Hope I get that offer on Monday. I'll get out a but early and help tend to the wound that is Monday by setting up my new TV.

Do you guys think at 43 inches 4K is worth it? Noticed that Best Buy is gonna have an LG 43 inch 4K for 300, and after seeing impressions of the Pro on a 4K set I'm very interested.

Depends on your set up. If you're playing games in your room that would be great. If it's a living room TV it might be pretty small.

Ok, thank you and sorry.

Yes but don't buy LG - LG uses fake 4k resolution in their cheaper TVs where they have don't have full RGB layout for all pixels.

It's still available for that price on Amazon if you check other sellers (Video & Audio Center). I guess I didn't realize this last night in my sleepy haze, but I purchased through them, not directly through Amazon. They're at 99% positivity, though I'm trying to find out more info about their return/exchange policy now, just in case.

The people on avforums willl want to know what speakers you have and whether they suit a particular brands flaour of sound. I'm enough of a heathen to be happy with any of the big brands. I went with Yamaha last time for the twin HDMI outputs (have a projector) and wasn't overly worried about the sound.

£299 for a HDR receiver with chromecast, Spotify and airplay built in sounds pretty great. I suppose the only wrinkle is if dynamic metadata or something in 2017 needs a tweak to the HDMI spec. I might try living with compressed audio for a while and have the pro connected directly.

All valid points. Though I'm not even sure the XD93 will handle dynamic metadata or not!

Welcome to my world! I started looking at something that might cost me £1000 and ended up at £1600, though that should come down to £1300 after cashback and selling the soundbar.

It's little surprise that the XD93 looked flat compared to the OLED screen, though as you say it might well have been the settings. When I saw the 65 and 55" versions of the XD93 in John Lewis they both looked fantastic, but they also weren't sitting next to a OLED!

How do the OLEDs fare with input lag again?

I've only spent an hour with my ks8000 and my PS4 pro but I agree, it is SUPER underwhelming. I was expecting to be blown away reading others impressions. Really hoping I have a setting wrong.

I think it really depends on what game you're playing. Not all games are getting patches, specifically older games.

I have a Samsung UE40KU6000 was a present for graduating university, hdr mode works on my xbox one but when im on my ps4pro on battlefield one it says 4k/uhd but the hdr symbol doesnt come up like it does on the xbox one. Am I doing anything wrong?
Battlefield One doesn't support HDR as of yet. They may add it in the future but, for now, its an increased resolution and framerate. It still looks great, though. Try Ratchet & Clank if you want to try out HDR gaming.

Does it make any sense to get a 65" 4K TV if the viewing distance is about 2m (6.5 feet)? For games (PC with 980 Ti and more powerful future GPUs, PS4 Pro), Netflix/HBO streaming, some SD TV and the occasional Bluray?

At the moment the model (Samsung KS7005 aka the Nordic KS8000) I'm looking at is priced so that 55" is cheapest, 60" the most expensive and 65" on sale between the two. Since the price difference between 55" and 65" is only about 200 euros I am considering the bigger model.

I currently use a 50" Panasonic ST50 plasma which I bought based on what was the recommended viewing distance for 1080p but I think I could have gone a bit bigger no problem. However I don't know how a huge 65" 4K TV would be in the same spot, other than causing some issues for speaker placement. rtings.com size calculator suggests even larger for 4K to "be worth it".

Any recommendations?

They seem about the same. B6 seems to vary which is odd, but about 58ms. XD93 recently got a firmware update to about the same (in HDR mode).

Going to try and take a USB stick with 4K content on to JL and some example settings from avforums and see if they'll let me play with the remotes. Are there good sites to download test clips from?

They are trying to make an immersive viewing experience that doesn't allow you to see pixel structure. You still need to decide whether it's too big for you at that distance.

No idea where to get some content from. Wouldn't mind getting something myself just to help calibrate.

Do you have UHD Colour enabled? You might not be getting 4K HDR if you don't.

I did have that setting on, but something was wrong, or maybe the first two levels of r&c just aren't that impressive. I changed a bunch of settings and got to the first real level of r&c (where you can upgrade first weapon) and the HDR hit me. Or maybe it's just the tv being better, but the colors are amazing.

Also, for film content I tried daredevil season 2, which is marked as hdr by netflix but apparently isn't and was understandably disappointed. I now have tried marco polo and I see how great hdr is. Although daredevil season 1 supposedly is hdr and that wasn't all that impressive, but did see it in city lights.

Thanks guys, looking like I'll steer away from LG in favor of Samsung. Costco's going to have a 40KU6000 on sale for 289 in another week or so, will probably end up picking that up as long as money's not too tight. Sounds like it'd be perfect for my bedroom.
