Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

Okay. I officially hate it when Pokemon "call for help." It turns a routine battle into a slog where a Pokemon calls for help, I defeat it, the other Pokemon calls for help, I defeat that one too, etc. It's so annoying.

Especially when you're trying to catch one

You're supposed to use a status effect to prevent calls for help. Paralyze it or put it to sleep, which is part of catching Pokemon anyway.

This is the first pokemon game that I'm playing seriously and I'm having so much fun I don't want to do anything else. I want to take the day off just to play more. I made it to the second island yesterday.

I know of two people who have gotten stuck in this Gastly/Munchlax loop. Mean look should have a duration limit or something 'cause this seems like pretty annoying bullshit.

Anyways, I've only gotten the Firium, but my thoughts so far are:
Pros:
+being able to just drag and drop to withdraw/deposit. Holy shit it took them long enough to do this.
+Can choose to keep pokemon I catch in party. Again it's about time.
+Z-crystals are better than badges since they are a more meaningful reward than just increasing what level of pokemon you can have.
+pager is better than HM's
+Also, I like the "Call for help" mechanic. Can be frustrating but it does make catching a pokemon more intense.

Cons:
- Z-crystals have stupid ass names. Use latin roots. "pugnium" sounds better "Fightinium" same for something like "ignium", etc..
- What happened to Raticate's and Persian's face???

About 10-15 more hours. Might want to get one from a trade.

Is there an etiquette I should be aware of when asking for trades? I've enjoyed Pokemon games in the past but this is my first time interacting with the community, so I'm trying to figure everything out as I go.

Obviously shinies, legendaries, & perfects will require something of very equal value, but what about "normal" Pokemon that one may want just to have, or for breeding purposes?

Take the above for example. If someone was to trade me their Mimikyu, what on Earth would I be expected to send in return that they can't already get themselves, given they are much further along in the game than I am?

Thanks in advance for any answers, & any other helpful hints I may want to keep in mind.

Haha, had this happen to me as well. Ended up throwing a great ball and got lucky.

Made sure to have a non-normal move on it after that.

As a note, some in the thread have said this isn't a sure thing, to be fair.

One thing I'm really happy about is that unlike X/Y, there are actually new areas to explore in the post-game. Not as much as D/P or B/W had, admittedly, but it still is a cool feeling to find these new places.

If someone offered you a Mimikyu knowing how early you are in the game then they most likely would not be expecting anything in return.

Do you guys fight every wild Pokemon or something? Because I don't see how SOS is annoying.

Sure, it got in the way in a couple of captures in my playthrough but it's not that bad.

Jesus Christ, Verlisify's click bait pokemon Youtube videos..

"HOW TO GET BOTH LEGENDARY POKEMON IN POKEMON SUN AND MOON"
-starts watching the video-
A fucking 10 minute video telling you to go on the GTS and trade for the other one.

Why are pokemon youtubers such scummy garbage? Seriously. The amount of clickbait and lies and passing off opinion as fact

Performance has been solid to me. Joe, any word on getting info on the Battle Tree?

It's on the to-do list. I haven't touched it yet though as I haven't had the chance to make a competitive team. I'll try and get one sorted for tomorrow

I think I saw an article from Kotaku with "Sun & Moon tips" that had gems like:

- Use super effective moves.

- Give Pokémon held items.

- Capture as many Pokémon as you can.

Are you positive about that? If it doesn't work, this goes against the current documentation we have on the mechanic and most player experiences.

I have never had a paralyzed Pokemon call for help.

Ask the wishiwashi I didn't catch last night because it called backup for like 20 consecutive turns while paralyzed.

Ugh, for the life of me I can't find Paras/Morelull in Brooklet Hill. I am using Serebii's guide but the monster icon the site is using is different from the in-game dex.

This image doesn't show up in the dex, instead in the cave entrance. So I'm confused on which "specific patch" it's talking about.

I saw an article on some random site explaining how to swap the order of your Pokemon in your party. It was four paragraphs.

I think a lot of us are trying to capture stuff, mostly the new mons and SOS can make things annoying because if there are two (or more) wild Pokemon at a time, one must be defeated in order to capture. It's really not that bad and its essentially free EXP.

Should work in basically any patch inside. Between the first two bodies of water especially. Paras is day, morelull night.

I have and always have tried to capture every Pokémon in each are before I move on since Red and Blue. And yes, it's broken and annoying unless you are trying to EV train or hunt for shinys.

I think with Fly HM being gone a lot of people were glad to not have to use the Early Bird for that, but I've been using the Pikipek line temporarily and they're pretty sweet.

Even Ash seems like he's gonna skip out on the Regional Bird for once.

Yeah. I think it' just the fact that now that I don't feel like I need to use the regional bird out of necessity + that the Pikipek line is pretty well designed and has a pretty cool moveset/ability that makes me love it so much.

Also, toucans are rad, so there's that.

How is everyone enjoying the game? :)

This is the best Pokemon game in years.

I think that's a plus for me, personally. I never enjoyed exploring the areas of Pokemon games that felt like D-Tier Zelda dungeons. Wandering through twisty caves, solving silly Team Rocket teleporter puzzles, those always felt like obnoxious padding to me. I much prefer the more stream-lined environmental design here. It still features a diverse array of different environments, and I feel like my time in each of them feels meaningful, rather than drawn-out.

Alola in general is a huge reason I'm liking this game as much as I am. There's a specificity to the design of the region that is fantastic. When previous regions, like Kalos, based their design on a real-world place. It felt like very surface-level homages. Yeah, there's a big central city with an Eiffel Tower stand-in and some bakeries, but by-and-large, most locations in Kalos felt interchangeable with previous Pokemon regions.

Alola feels like a really specific place with it's own culture and identity, it feels like a wholly different part of the world from previous Pokemon regions and I love that.

I feel it makes the island more... confined in exploration. Like you'd think the island setting would mean you'd be given time to explore but nope, all are restricted to paths. And exploration != dungeons. Just having multiple ledge jump offs from one path that lead to another is a positive. And the best experience is trekking in say, Mt. Coronet.

Also I disagree - each region had their own identities - you just had to talk to them. With that said for Kanto and Johto both were backwater rural areas, except Kanto was more backwater than usual.

Should work in basically any patch inside. Between the first two bodies of water especially. Paras is day, morelull night.

And just seeing this post I got a morelull encounter, yay!

I guess I was really pissed I keep seeing those damn Wingull.
