CYCLOPS's Final Fate - And Shocking Secret - Revealed: DEATH OF X #4 Spoilers

It’s been nearly a year since the mystery of Cyclops’s death (and the alleged (but unspecified) crimes he committed leading up to it) were placed in fans’ minds by the end of Secret Wars, and in this week's Death of X #4 the truth is revealed - and it’s not what readers have been led to believe.

Spoilers ahead for Death of X #4.

In this final issue of the Death of X flashback mini-series, Scott and his team of Magick, Magneto, Emma Frost, Sunfire, and the Cuckoos succeed in transmuting one of the Terrigen clouds into harmless vapor with the help of Alchemy, whom Scott recruited last issue.

However, the transmutation comes with a price – Alchemy dies of M-Pox minutes after touching the cloud. Afterwards, Scott confronts Medusa and Black Bolt, who are furious at the loss of the Terrigen Mists – though another cloud still remains.

In this moment, Cyclops gives an impassioned speech about his life, and how, after all he’s been through, he’s not even himself anymore, just a collection of failed ideas. But it’s too late – Black Bolt, ordered by Medusa, vaporizes the X-Men leader by the power of his voice.

Afterwards, at Cyclops’s funeral, Emma Frost speaks to Cyclops’s brother, Havok, who says he knows Scott isn’t really in the coffin. Emma then confesses that Scott died all the way back in Death of X #1 after exposure to the M-Pox, and that all his actions since then – his worldwide call to arms against the Inhumans, organizing a team to destroy the Terrigen cloud, and even his death at the hands of Black Bolt, were all psychic projections Emma created so that Scott could die as a symbol rather than as a victim of the disease.

It’s a somewhat shocking revelation, given that Emma herself has been absent since Secret Wars, and the level of horror many mutants have expressed at Cyclops’s actions. Transmuting a Terrigen cloud hardly seems like the kind of thing that leaves a lifelong hero remembered as a villain and terrorist.

In the end, the status quo we’ve known for all this time remains largely unchanged, with the mutants and Inhumans simply going back to co-existing while Hank McCoy tries to cure the M-Pox.

seriously?

Still a deeper mystery remains: are the more than 3 people who are actually fans of Inhumans and want to read about them?

Lame.

Cyclops was always right. Avengers attacked his island unprovoked, and he defended hope from being kidnapped.

He lasted the longest against the phoenix force without being corrupted.

Killing Xavier? Xavier was threatening to turn him into a vegetable even though he hadn't DONE anything yet. It was essentially kill or be killed. And even then, it was probably the phoenix that made him do it.

Guy *HAS* to be tough, because he's the leader of a group of people who has faced extinction dozens of times. Even MAGNETO followed this guy.

i wonder how many universes exist in those comics. like, i have just a couple where a soldier named Alfiere goes back in the past to find a traitor who killed all the x-men (and i never knew how it ended, anyone know the name of this part?)

Rendered one of those death mists inert? Sounds like a good thing to me, fuck these mutants acting like Slim burned down a puppy orphanage, then these jackasses go on to fight the inhumans anyway.

SMH.

That's pretty tragic. Honestly, I find that to be kind of an interesting twist.

I guess marvel feels just fine replacing the original 616 characters. I don't feel like we will be seeing the 616 Cyclops or Wolverine again since the main continuity houses alternate but basically indistinguishable versions of their classic personalities and characterizations.

If I saw what appeared to be my future self get vaporized, I'd also be wearing a pretty derpy expression.

" This is thing is bad"

" Fuck off Cyclops you did that bad thing."

" Aiight"

- Time passes-

" Oh fuck Cyclopse was right again"

I think it's final-and Teen Cyclops will be Main Cyclops from now on. Much like how Teen Jean is here to stay.

Marvel is going to get bored of the teen X-Men, and things will revert back in some flashy cross-over. It might be 5 years from now, but it will happen.

This is one of the least surprising "twists" I have seen in a long time. I and many others speculated exactly this to be the case since they've been telegraphing this since at least #2. The cover was completely obvious about it.

The whole situation is a poorly handled, poorly written mess that I hope they will fix next year with Blue and Gold.

He'll be back in like 3 months, I assume.

No. Don't be silly

although a genetically identical character but with a moustache called Bi-clops will show up looking for his separated at birth twin brother, then embarking on a trip to get Cyclops back from the afterlife thanks to his handy mutation 'optic-bro' vision which just so happens to allow people to rescue their loved ones from death

So what about the Phoenix Cyclops that got killed by Doom? Was that some different version?

That was when the Universe got reconfigured into Doom being God essentially, once that got undone everything was mostly back to how it was. Mostly. Those dead were alive again ala Cyclops. Until now. For awhile. Until he and the other X-Men return, the teen X-Men are revealed to be fakes or something and the status quo is maintained.
